Subject: Sail Transport in Seattle update

Here is an updated for anyone interested in the beginnings of Sail Transport Cargo in and around the Puget Sound.

Inspired by Jan Lundberg, Dmitry Orlov and a lot of financial research by myself and members of Seattle Peak Oil around June last year I set out to run sea and market trials for the beginnings of small scale sail cargo freight network in the Puget Sound. Ironically we were mid way through our trials before I even heard of the oarclub or Jays books (darn what a find). Soon after finding the oarclub Bob Hall came sailing with us on the last two trials.

The last two also involved memebers of the Local Seattle sustainability group "Sustainable Ballard" who had been sitting on the idea for some time and are now fully excited and on board after seeing real trial markets in operation.

Next year I am planning to run a full time CSA during the growing season using 100% (no exceptions) sail transport linking with land based delivery by cargo bikes and trikes all free of hydrocarbon fuels. I am sincerely hoping that some people here will be interested in helping turning what many people have had as lifelong dreams into reality. Its time to go boys and girls the numbers are starting to pan out, the age of recreation only sailing is soon to be history.

I need people to help with designing retrofit pure sail cargo carriers, engineless crews and anyone with contacts to willing buyers of produce shipped hydrocarbon free to Seattle

All the best

Dave Reid

PS Jay we are really interested in building a Kona Coffee run from Hawaii to Seattle, do you have time to collect or share some intel from your end?
