Hi. Congratulations on your Commander. Great boat!

When I mounted my sculling oar on the back of my Yankee 30, I used a gigantic wooden chock. Here's a picture of it:

There are a few more pictures on that picture site of the oar construction. I used the instructions that Ari pointed to. The chock cannot be too beefy. The oar really wants to eat up your transom. In fact, I broke the chock in the picture about 3 days ago. It split right along the grain of the wood. I'm going to laminate up some 2 1/2" marina plywood or something to make a new one.
