Well, the lazarette deck is where I should have said the pin will probably mounted and not on the transom proper. It seems to be fairly flat (level?) on top and would probably be a good spot. I'm guessing that a large enough plate (3-4" diameter)and about 1/8-3/16" thick for the pin to weld to and a backing plate of say 4x4x1/4" aluminum plate with through bolts, washers, and nuts might be strong enough. I'm thinking along the lines of how cleats are mounted and while they don't have the same moment arm the yuloh pin will experience, they still have to withstand large loads and they still stay in place. I've got to do more thinking on this. I must say that I am grateful to Mr. FitzGerald for starting this website. I'm lucky to have found it. His books and writings are providing some working knowledge for me and giving me the confidence to go further with some goals I have set. The other books I've spent money on don't tell me how to really get on a sailboat. But then, those books don't talk about sailboats, they talk about motorsailors and everything that goes with it. Thanks for the replies.
