A few things to be considered

* for accuracy and stability of readings placement in the forward 1/3 of the length works better. Definitely ahead of any appendages or other thruhulls.

* more and more sounders are being installed inside the boat (no hole to drill and no thruhull fitting). If you have solid f-glass hull (no sandwich) somewhere down in the bilges then you've got it knocked as you can simply add an epoxy mounting pad and glue the sounder to that. If you have a foam or balsa core then you will ne to route out the core and build it up with solid epoxy/f-glass to regain the hull strength before you add the sounder.

* be very sure to contact the tech folks at the manufacturer for details. The mounting inboard is sometimes not covered well in the instructions that come with the sounders - but the techies may have much more in terms of guidance.

Hope hat is enough to get you started,
TomH
