Subject: Bikes on boats

I recently spent a couple weeks up in the San Juan islands on Jackie, my Yankee 30. I brought my bike along and used an 8' inflatable dinghy to row it to shore:

I found this completely invaluable. When you anchor at say, Spencer Spit State Park, you're about 3 miles away from the liquor store. Or if you want to explore the entire island, it'd be one hell of a way to walk. With a sailboat, a dinghy, and a bike (and an ok pair of legs) there's nowhere you can't get to.

I found that when cruising with one other person I could fit the bikes reasonably well in the v-berth by removing both wheels and the pedals.

I still haven't pulled the shaft and prop from the old A-4 in my boat, and I always joke about rigging up some system to mount a bike above the bilge and turn the prop using a bike. It'd be fucking ridiculous and not practical, but hell if it wouldn't be pretty cool.
