Now you're making me blush. You're right, I'm generous to a fault. Just consider the extra half-cup of oil a "tip", my good man.

But more seriously, a mule can pull your pickup to the top of the hill. He is simply expending energy - he can be properly compensated with a hand full of hay to fuel his muscles or a cup of oil to heat his stall. Cleaning out my garage is a much higher level function; a job that only a human can do and therefore should be compensated at a higher level. It is more than just the expenditure of energy and so cannot properly be compensated via the exchange of some arbitrary BTU-equivalent of crude oil. Trying to do this is how you wind up with absurd statements like Neil's that "....a barrel of oil produces the equivalent of about 23,000 hours of human work." When premises with this level of falsity are used as a starting point it is not surprising that some come to the "logical" conclusion that the only reasonable plan of action is to fill a boat with food, ammo, and booze and wait breathlessly for the imminent collapse of civilization.

(And I mean no disrespect to Neil or Jay or anyone else on this group. It is just an opinion.)
