I guess I need to weigh in on this. I understand the the issue and it's a difficult one.

Of course I have no idea where any of you live, so you have varying degrees of need for heat/food/and dryness.

Diesel stoves are out, at this point. I put one in Macha, but the fact is at fuel prices today it will cost 15 bucks a day to run that thing. On the big boat, the stove supplies only heat, so I imagine replacing it with a high end wood stove would be the answer.

On Renegade, I finally installed a diesel stove as well, but that's again almost 5 years back, and today, not a good idea.

I think we're back to what I had on Renegade from the first. I had a Kerosene Seaswing with a Primus burner, and a small woodstove, a Gypsy for heat and cooking as well. The Gypsy was modified with propane burners so that I could run/light on propane, wood, or the both. This worked very well. It's basically how I run my rocket stoves on the Hawaiian homestead at the moment, and it works great. A number 75 or so wire bit will create a jet that burns at about 5000 BTUs. It will burn filthy unless there's solid fuel in there as well, so be aware of that. I think basically running the solid fuel stove as a hybrid is a very practical solution for many of you.

I believe I gave Perry a Tiny Tot. They're great stoves.
