I hope all of you are reading the news. Not the fringe news, but mainstream macrofinance news. I especially like Bloomberg, but whatever. I hope as well you've all invested in rice and are prepared to move aboard your boats. There may be a miracle cure out of all this, but for all the world this is the storm the barometer has been screaming for for some time. Many may well get a lot of practice in sailing and seasteading soon, and I hope that the practice has been had while it's still a hobby and not a livelyhood.

Anybody interested in property in Hawaii should give me notice. It will be all but free here soon as people are fleeing to the mainland assuming they're going to find better jobs. Wrong on that--I came to Hawaii seeing the writing on the wall and knowing there are good and bad places to be poor. This is a GOOD place to be poor. LA isn't.

Aside that grim notice, glad in a very big way to see Macha out rocking, as it would have been sad indeed to see it sit, but Ari and Sarah have proved to be of the stuff I thought them to be and there's a story in the making there. Ari will be well posed to be writing a book on "engineless sailing" in short order, and should, as that boat will give you skills right quick and leave few excuses for anyone else.

As for me, I'm enjoying doing a lot of diving, spearfishing, and surfing, things that boat ownership in many ways made difficult to do. I've got a 25 foot proa in the front yard on the way to completion, for fishing ahi, and should be done and ready to go in a month or so. I'd love to put together a 60 foot or so outrigger, as that's a kind of boat much neglected and I'm becoming convinced unfairly so, but we'll see. I'll know a lot more after I get some time under my belt with this one. It's important that your next boat be better looking than your last, and that's going to a hard bar to beat!

Anyhow, anybody who wants some island time should get in touch. I'm going to need to start working sometime soon, but that doen't mean I'm without free time. I'd love to put up another cabin on the place, and basically turn it loose, but we'll see.

Jay
