A friend of mine in Long Beach has a Yankee Dolphin. I have sailed on her several times in different conditions and have found her to be a choice boat. He has had several folks down below for social hour and I heard no complaints. He also regularly slept aboard for weeks on end. Again, I heard no complaints. If you don't plan on using her for full-time living (or you have a place to store some belongings) then she could be great for learning. She was very easy to single-hand and not too tender for such a small boat ( I say that with a smile as I live full time with my husband and baby to be in a month or so on a 22 footer).

Also, a good friend of mine lives aboard and sails out of Marina Del Ray. I will ask her if it is ok to pass along her email and perhaps she knows of some deals for you or can get you out on the water.
