Casey,

Your right, it's not the best answer to stop gaming (that would be non-transferabe permits), but as mark say's it's just one treak to the system to make it better. As far as non-transferable or one choice, I could live with either. I think the 1 choice would be more appealing to most hunters.

Other things that could also help are:

1. 1 buck bag limit per year, on WMA's. This could allow for longer hunting seasons on the WMA's that have short seasons by liniting the harvest and spreading the deer harvest out among hunters. I'm sure this would not be popular with a lot of hunters, but how many now harvest more than one buck per year. Also with this you would not need a 3pt rule, because alot of hunters would pass on small bucks to extend there buck hunting time. I think this is why the 2 buck bag limit in Georgia worked so well, even before they had a 4pt. on a side rule and all the doe hunting that they now have.

2. Mark's suggestion.....one buck per hunter per hunt. This would also go a long way in not needing a 3pts on a side rule.

3. Maximize the number of quota's issued for all the WMA's that have short gun hunts by making them all 3 day hunts. As it is now, some area's have gun hunts that range from 3 to 9 days. By breaking up the hunts you are able to issue more permits per season. Example....Jennings WMA has two gun hunts per year. One is 9 days the other 7 days, for a total of 16 days. Each gun hunt has 60 permits, which is a total of 120 permits per year for gun hunts. If the two gun hunts were split into 5 - 3day hunts (a total of 15 days) you would have a total of 300 permits issued each year for gun hunting. This would allow an additional 180 hunters the chance to hunt this area. This would also cut down on no shows because most hunters only have time or choose to hunt the first few days. This could also be applied to WMA's that have quota's for the first 9 days. By spliting up the first 9 days you could double the permits issued for these area's and cut down on a lot of no shows.

4. Have the hunts on WMA's held on the same days as much as possible. I know this well vary by parts of the state, but I think it might help cut down on some gaming and spread the hunting pressure out.
