Wayne,

What change can you honestly say will make hunters buy a hunting license here in florida? Those people go to other States for Leases, they don't hunt in georgia WMAs so how can you say what is going to bring back the license decline or even hint that something has to change for that to happen?

Let's look at the three point rule; will this raise the harvest rate? will this raise the herd numbers? What exactly with confidence will the three point rule do? give a bigger horn Mast, how about a heavier deer! Will this rule bring hunters back to florida?

how about the quota system: Non-transferable versus Treansferable, What can be done or will this in and of itself bring the hunters back?

More land: we are getting more land open every year, not open year round and they're small parcels but non the less more land!

More Opurtunities: Youth hunts, Family hunts, hog only hunts, Special hog hunts also, The FWC youth hunt is in full swing also...

The FWC harvest rate for WMAs are out for last year, 4800 deer were taken last year from 103 WMAs, that averages out to 45 deer per WMA! 2700 hogs were taken last year... there were 250,000 licenses sold there abouts!

Armed with this info and the knowledge that it's highly unlikely any change in the Rules for WMA hunting will bring back Hunters, the stakeholders need to focus on what will bring the herd numbers up and give the resident public hunter a better chance at harvesting a deer! If any changes need to be made it should be about that, not something that is wishful thinking!

Those hunters who want to shot eight points or better can do that with or without a change, making the comment that they have to shot the spike that walks by because someone else might is BS thinking and more of a winners atitude! If i want meat in my freezer not horns on my mantle I should be able to do that also!

As for any changes, yes we need a few, but it's for the betterment of both hunter and deer, if we as hunters and stakeholders can find a way to do that then I'm for it but to make a change just for guestimation, hell no! We're along way from having the RIGHT answer i think!

By the way, hunting license sales are down accross the country, so it's not just about Florida!

Mark
