Clement was humming at the stove as Nikita walked into the kitchen, noting that the coffee had just started to brew. She moved over to the long island and grabbed the Clementine that was in a bowl just in front of Clement. That was when he stopped and pointed the knife at Nikita. “I knew you came in here Mrs. Nikita when you stopped to check the coffee.”
Nikita smiled and pealed the Clementine as she sat down on the stool. “Good morning to you too, Clement.”
He turned his head to glance over his shoulder at the clock and then back at Nikita. “Its hours too early for you. What are you doing up so early?”
Nikita ate a piece of the Clementine as she looked over the island. “What are you making for breakfast?”
“Now, what do you think you smell?” Clement challenged Nikita as she was very knowledgeable. When he finally got to meet the couple, Nikita quizzed him about his ingredients, not that Clement minded it at all. He found this couple very interesting.
“Of course beignets.”
“Of course,” Clement chuckled. “And why would I need to make them for you?”
“Because I like them?” Nikita questioned and Clement rolled his eyes. “Because you need some carbs, Mrs. Nikita. You look skinnier than the last time I saw you.”
“That was last night!” Nikita laughed and Clement nodded his head as he moved to the stove and then frowned. “You still haven’t told me why you are in my kitchen too early. Most of the crew hasn’t been in to eat yet…”
Nikita blushed slightly as she knew exactly what Clement was saying. She ate some more of the Clementine until it was gone. She looked over at the skillet that Clement was carefully watching. “What’s that? I think I smell Andouille.”
“Mrs. Nikita, you know that you smell Andouille. What else do you smell?” Clement shook his head with slight annoyance. She looked a little bit tired but then Clement knew that she was a newlywed.
“It almost smells like jambalaya,” Nikita commented and Clement nodded his head. “Everything but the rice… in a Frittata format.”
“Yummy,” Nikita rubbed her hands together and Clement rolled his eyes. “The coffee is ready.”
“Thanks,” Nikita slid off of the stool and went to pour a large cup and before returning to the stool.
“Are you now going to tell me why you are in here bothering me so early?” Clement pulled the skillet off of the stove and placed it in the oven. Nikita rubbed her hands along the granite countertop and then slapped them on the top of the granite. “We are going into town today,” Nikita spoke as she glanced out the window as they were already at dock. “Have you seen the Captain this morning?”
“Aleshia?” Clement questioned and Nikita nodded her head up and down. “There is only one Captain.”
“Your husband got me… said that you needed to speak with me,” Aleshia spoke as she walked into the kitchen with Michael right behind her. Nikita tilted her head to the side. “How did you know, Michael?”
“I’m married to you,” Michael whispered as he bypassed the coffee pot, wrapped his arms around Nikita’s waist and stole a sip of Nikita’s coffee. “No sugar?”
Nikita shook her head slightly and Aleshia turned with a cup of coffee for Michael. “What is it that you need, Nikita?”
Nikita looked at Michael and leaned back against his chest. “I need to Skype with my children today. I know that I talked to them a couple nights ago… but for some reason… I just need to see them… now.”
“Right now? Or after breakfast?” Aleshia replied and Nikita exhaled with relief. She woke up this morning with the sense that she needed to see both Sabina and Adam. She knew that it would be hard not to be with them for two weeks, but Nikita had thought that just talking to them would be enough. But today, she needed to see them.
“We can eat first… but absolutely before we go into town,” Nikita spoke and Aleshia nodded her head as she sipped the coffee. “I have always had that set up. Jason helped me set it up before you arrived.”
Nikita chuckled and then pressed her lips together. “So it’s not just Skype.”
“I believe its high-definition,” Aleshia replied and Nikita looked over to Clement and what he was cooking. She frowned and then looked at Michael. “I can’t wait… I need to do this now.”
“Food will wait, Mrs. Nikita,” Clement commented and Michael stepped back to allow Nikita to stand up. There was something else driving his wife right now and he knew not to question it. It wasn’t that it was early for rest of the world – it was just after ten. At least Sabina would be up and Michael was sure that was specifically who Nikita needed to see right now.
Ten minutes later, Nikita was in the room waiting for the other side to answer. It was Reagan to was first to come onto the screen. “Hello Nikita, Michael…”
Reagan looked like she wanted to say something more, but there was a shout that both Michael and Nikita knew.
“MOMMY! DADDY!” Sabina shouted over and over again from somewhere in the house and soon she was jumping to get onto Reagan’s lap. She looked into the screen and waved. “I’m so happy to see you both. I miss you both.”
Michael squeezed Nikita’s hand as she tensed. If his wife said that she wanted to go home right now, he would make it happen.
“I miss you too,” Nikita spoke and Michael echoed the same sentiment. He loved his time with Nikita, but seeing Sabina right now did make it hard not to be the person to suggest going home.
“I had a nightmare last night… I was with people… they were trying to tell me that they were my mommy and daddy… and I knew that they weren’t and I just wanted to see you two… and they kept me behind doors and I would get out… and there would be another door… and I couldn’t find you…” Sabina explained rapidly and Nikita looked at Michael with a pale face. “Oh, darling… I’m so sorry… we can come home… do you miss us that much?”
“I miss you, but Reagan protected me. You two need to stay away,” Sabina bluntly spoke with a shrug of her shoulders. Reagan was shocked and nervously smiled. “I just went into the room and slept with her.”
“See… Reagan protected me. I didn’t have the dream again.”
“And what do you plan on doing tonight?” Nikita nervously asked because if Sabina was going to have to have Reagan with her to go to sleep, they were going home.
“Well, Adam and I are going to build a fort in the dining room… he said that he used to do that with Daddy… and we are going to have s’mores… and we are going to sleep in the dining room,” Sabina explained and Michael chuckled. He used to do that with Adam after he had a bad nightmare. It was just like his son to know what to do for tonight.
“And what are you going to do today, Sabina?” Michael asked and Sabina shook her head. “I want to know what you two have been doing? Tell me!”
Nikita almost choked and Reagan cleared her throat. “I told her that you have been swimming… and fishing… and sailing…”
“And we are going shopping today,” Nikita added as she smiled at her daughter. That seemed to be enough for Sabina and she started to talk quickly about school. Nikita relaxed as she listened to it all. Michael leaned his head down on Nikita’s shoulder as he enjoyed just watching this. He didn’t know how Nikita knew, but he was glad that she had.
