Jason opened up the door to his apartment and stepped back. “Walter is waiting in the living room.”
Michael looked around and blinked. He had never been to Jason’s place and it was not what he expected. “Chickens?”
“Previous owner,” Jason commented as he waited for Tom to walk in and then he closed the door. As they moved into the living room, it was clear that Jason was speaking the truth. Everything in the living room was chocolate leather, chrome and glass. Walter was sitting on the edge of the couch and as he saw Tom, he rose to his feet. “What’s wrong?”
“We wanted to talk,” Michael calmly replied as he saw Walter’s reaction. He knew that something was different right now and that it was big. Walter looked at Jason and then back to Michael. “Where is Nikita? Why isn’t she here? I haven’t seen her for a couple days now… you didn’t do anything with her… she is still out, right? I mean, I know that she hasn’t been the best of late…”
“She is fine,” Tom stated and Walter frowned. “How do I believe you?”
“Because I’m going to confirm that he is telling the truth. You haven’t seen Nikita today because she is taking care of some things. You know that we aren’t always together,” Michael countered as he sat down on the loveseat and Tom sat right next to him.
Walter settled back down, but still sat on the edge as Jason settled on a recliner. “Why do you need to talk to us?”
“Yeah,” Walter chimed in and Michael looked at Tom. Walter narrowed his eyes again. “If you are going to tell us what we need to do for Nikita… even if it means walking away… I’m for that. Whatever it is, if it makes things easier for Nikita... I'm for it, Michael.”
“It is about Nikita… slightly,” Tom admitted as Michael leaned back. He had told Tom that it was going to be mostly onto his shoulders to explain this situation. They were missing the person that would make this situation easier to handle. But Beatrice had told them that Nikita had to just focus on herself for a while and both Michael and Tom believed that also.
Nikita of course didn’t agree.
“You have to understand, I was brought into the powers that made the decision to close Section just as Nikita was put into the position of Operations. They gave me the task of finding someone to be ready to help debrief Nikita from the task that they were going to ask her to do and to make sure that she was going to do the task the right way,” Tom started to explain as both Walter and Jason started to focus on him. They got the point that it was Tom’s story to tell with just that beginning.
“I had found someone who knew about Section and knew of Nikita… she had evaluated Madeline’s state of mind a few times… she was the one that identified that Madeline would not be able to close down Section as we wished it to be closed… by getting the good people another chance…” Tom continued as Michael glanced over at him. He was putting off the news, but maybe that was a good thing for right now.
“Who? Someone that we know? I mean… Adrian is dead… right?” Walter inquired and Tom exhaled. “It’s not Adrian.”
Walter nodded his head as he was relieved. “Obviously Nikita didn’t trust you.”
“That’s correct,” Tom nodded his head up and down. “I had tried to do whatever I could to let her know that there was a plan… but my hands were also tied… and we didn’t even know all that Nikita knew… and things disintegrated once Section ended… and Nikita disappeared.”
“She didn’t disappear,” Jason stated and Tom exhaled. “She disappeared for me… once we closed Section… we didn’t keep copies and backups… and all the paranoia that Nikita… and most of you, had done…”
“Tom,” Michael spoke and Tom cleared his throat. “Needless to say… I’ve been able to go back to the resource that I had ready for Nikita… and that is who Nikita is with right now… hopefully starting to process what is going on with someone who can help her in the proper way… or at least in a better way than what we have been doing.”
“Do we wait for Nikita to get better before…” Jason drifted off and Michael shook his head. “We’ve been told to not stop looking for our daughter. Nikita was explained that our daughter is not the key to making her handle things better… but if we tried to tell Nikita to stop… that would be like telling you to stop, Jason. You aren’t.”
Jason nodded his head and rolled his head around. “I would continue to look… your right.”
“But there is more here,” Walter interrupted the mutual agreement society that he saw going on right now. “There is something important.”
“The therapist,” Tom nodded his head up and down as he rubbed his hands together. He looked at Walter, knowing that a first it was going to be hardest for him. “She is related to someone inside of Section.”
“Madeline? I thought Madeline’s sister was dead,” Walter stated and Tom shook his head back and forth. He looked to Michael and Michael leaned forward. “I think you should just let Tom tell you.”
“Well, he is playing games with us,” Walter pointed towards Tom. “He is acting like this person is related to someone that we married… and it isn’t like Belinda had a sister!”
Michael dropped his head and Tom turned his head to the side. Walter’s entire body grew tense. “She didn’t have a sister… or a brother.”
“She did,” Tom rasped as he looked at Walter. “In fact… a twin sister.”
“No,” Walter shook his head from side to side. “She didn’t tell me…”
“To protect her,” Tom commented and Walter shook his head from side to side. “No… not possible…”
“Her sister’s name is Beatrice… she started to get into therapy before Belinda was brought into Section… when their older sister had some issues…” Tom drifted and then swallowed, waiting. He wasn’t sure if he could continue.
Walter stood up and walked around the room. He then stopped and sat back down. “She is going to help Nikita?”
“She is with her now,” Tom nodded his head up and down. Walter pressed his hands into his knees and Michael could see that he was struggling. “I don’t have to like her, do I?”
“You have to trust her with Nikita… and I’m sure at some point… she’ll be interacting with you,” Tom stated and Walter nodded his head up and down. He looked at Michael and exhaled. “You trust her, Michael?”
“Yeah,” Michael admitted as he nodded his head up and down. “Nikita was already responding, Walter… even though she didn’t want too…”
“Nikita knew about her,” Tom whispered gently and Walter jerked. “What?”
‘Operations learns a lot of information that isn’t out there…”
“That’s not possible… I got Nikita’s information… there is nothing there about Belinda having a family,” Jason declared and Walter looked at Jason before looking back at Tom. “Exactly why is Jason here?”
“Nikita took the information out of the system before she gave it to you. You have to know that this is probably not just the only information she did that too,” Tom shrugged his shoulders slightly as he looked at Jason.
“Because I would have told Walter?” Jason inquired and Tom shook his head from side to side. Jason rolled his eyes as he glared at Michael. “He is acting like I’m a fragile person, Michael… what the hell is the shocking secret for me?”
Michael tilted his head to look at Jason. He was struck with how different Jason was from Birkoff. Michael knew how often he had to still remind himself that Jason was not Birkoff. This was one of those times. He thought he was going to have to play this coy and slowly tell Jason, but that would have been how to tell Birkoff. Jason was so different in many ways. “Beatrice is your aunt.”
Jason was silent and blinking his eyes. Walter was not. “Belinda was not Jason’s and Birkoff’s mother!”
“She was their aunt... but she wasn’t aware of it… only Beatrice was,” Tom revealed and Walter stood again, pacing back and forth. He stopped and looked up at the ceiling. “Damn you Paul… Damn you Madeline… playing freaking God!”
Everyone waited and Walter shook his head for a long time before sitting on the edge of the couch again. “Is that all?”
“All?” Jason mumbled. “I’m going to meet my Aunt… who was a twin…”
“Twins run in your family,” Tom confirmed as he looked at Jason. “Nikita didn’t want you to find out from a screen… that’s why she took all of this information out before you got a copy.”
“And she can help Nikita?” Jason asked and Michael nodded his head. “Beatrice is already helping Nikita.”
“And my mother?” Jason questioned and Tom shook his head. “She passed away a long time ago, Jason. While you were still a child.”
The room was silent for a long time and Walter looked at Michael. “That’s all the secrets here?”
“Nikita has a lot,” Michael rasped as he looked at Walter. “She was hiding this from you and Jason… we aren’t sure what else she has been hiding in order to protect us… hopefully Beatrice will help Nikita let go some of those secrets.”
“And we want to give them some amount of time to establish their relationship… before…” Tom’s voice broke. Walter nodded his head but Jason stared at them in confusion. “What?”
“We won’t be meeting Beatrice right away,” Walter commented as he leaned back in the couch. “And I think I want it that way. I don’t know if I want to meet her.”
“Nikita is going to need you to do that,” Michael warned Walter as he didn’t want Walter to try to avoid Beatrice. That would hurt Nikita along the long term. “Please, Walter… you are going to have to face this.”
“I’ll need you to face this,” Jason exhaled as he leaned forward, suddenly looking pale. “I lost a twin… a brother I didn’t know… and I have an aunt… who was a twin… I thought I had been alone in the world…”
Walter closed his eyes and slapped his hand against Jason’s shoulder, feeling that Jason was showing something that he had never really showed before. “Ok, buddy… I’ll be there… ok?”
Michael felt some of the stress in his body relax, but he had to hope that things were going as well with Nikita and Beatrice.
This had to work.
