The entire concept behind diciplines such as Akido, Taijiquan etc. is basically rooted in the developement and use of effortless power. That is what I meant by "getting back to the basics".
From day one, we have learned that correct T'ai chi does not pit force against force. It is incorrect technique if one is even so much as breathing hard following a bout of CORRECT push hands.
Much of current competition is nothing more than wrestling.
Do not rely on my information but rather check out the wealth of information that is out there.
That being said, I am NOT saying that it is not desirable to attain a healthy physical state. I am merely stating that that strength and power are NOT prerequisites to the practice of Taijiquan.
