Richard Garton was the eldest son of William who also had 4 other sons and three daughters. William started the sugar business in 1855, not sure where. The company relocated from Southampton to Battersea, London around the turn of the century and merged with Manbre in 1926. The company was eventually taken over by Tate & Lyle in 1977. Richard had two daughters Dorothy and Winifred. I know a number of descendants of Dorothy are still living in Hampshire. Let me know if this is of any help or if you require any further information.
