She does variations on this same stupid one-trick pony routine every week. Blue collar America hates liberals and the welfare state at this club or that diner. You read one, you've read 'em all. And Scaife actually LIKED her work? Not surprising.

She doubles as their "political reporter" despite her undeniable pro-Republican bias. It's a vestige of Scaife's view that his newspapers mainly existed to convince readers to think the way he does. Zito's analytical skills, from what I've seen, would be challenged by an episode of "The Simpsons." No one on Martindale Street is bright enough to pull the plug on this Charles Kuralt "road" routine she uses for Sundays to avoid any having to do any more than mouth talking points. If you want a real laugh, listen to her sorry podcast, which is titled "Off-Road Politics." Off-World Politics would be more like it!

Strictly a Scaife hire. After Dick passed, she wrote a piece about her visits to him when he was ill. It was cringe-inducing. She'll likely end up a regular at NewsMax or one of the other rightie online websites. Of course there's always those awful panel discussions at PCNC.

Pittsburgh doesn't do too good with ideologue types.

Jennifer Graham embarrassed herself at the PG with her snobby, sometimes bigoted comments wrapped in her religious self-righteousness (Ruth Ann has the corner on that market) before going back to Boston.

Salena's writing somehow impressed Dick. Before he became ill he tried to make her a star, which was laughable. I saw Zito on "Night Talk" (PCNC) three times and she couldn't even contribute anything worthwhile to those pointless dialogues.

Kathleen Parker or Jennifer Rubin are way better conservative columnists than these two.

Perhaps she'll be joining Greta Van Susteren at the Trump News Network being created by Roger Ailes after DJT loses the election.

Bram, a Taylor Allderdice H.S. graduate and son of an NRM manager and a Beatlemaniac / Trekkie, has performed many labors: waiting tables, union organizing, public relations, clerking, retail sales, farming, physical therapy and legislative research. Prior to blogging, he wrote A&E and dining reviews for InPittsburgh Weekly and profiles for Contrast Art Magazine. He is outfitted with a BSc. in Political Science, Philosophy and Public Relations from Syracuse University, go Scooby Doom!

Nobody referenced it because no one takes Bram seriously. He's got this weird outrage against Zito which I suspect is misplaced jealousy.

Bram sounds kind of undirected, but what about Zito's CV?

http://townhall.com/columnists/salenazito/

And THAT is something to be jealous of?

Salena is a joke, a dull writer who tends to state the obvious as if she's given it great thought. She's a walking conservative cliche convinced she's some sort of media star. Why? Because some time ago her pedestrian work impressed a paranoid billionaire zealot (RIP) who despite decades of publishing, couldn't tell good writing and analysis from bad, liberal or conservative. Someone with her overt ideological biases has no business doing objective political reporting. Since her Sunday column is little more than "road" articles that arrive at the same conclusion every week, she is clearly out of gas. Maybe she can sign on at the Heritage Foundation or some other right wing noise machine.

Finally, being a "Beatlemaniac" and a "Trekkie" hardly seem pejorative. Maybe they are in the sad world of Zito and her her wingnut defenders.

This overly informative explanation of Reichbaum says more about Zito's defenders than Reichbaum or his blog.

That paragraph is on Bram's blog, which, by the way, he hasn't paid much attention to in the last year. It's just another thing that he quickly lost interest in.
My defense of Zito is plain and simple: He accused her of making stories up, with no evidence to back it up whatsoever.
He's lucky she didn't sue him, which she would have had every right to do so.
But then again, Bram isn't smart enough to know what libel is.

Some of Bram's accusations are indeed qustionable. His other comments about getting email blasts are a bit more solid.

What Zito can't shake are the criticisms of her biased reporting, subpar, plodding, formulaic columns and limited analytical skills which are not up to pundit standards.

Thanks for all the personal background. And here I thought Bram was just some guy.

As long as Colin McN. is still there, fighting the good fight against buncombe.

It's not online, but the print version of her column today on Shanksville has her farewell to readers at the end so the entertaining discussions in this thread are moot.

[> [> Re: Salena Zito's On The Road Too Long -- Salena was OK, 09:11:54 09/12/16 Mon [1]

Despite what everyone says here, nearly everyone in the newsroom liked Salena. She was a friendly, always courteous and worked hard to learn the editorial side.

I'll miss her.

[> [> [> Yes, she was nice, but weak editorially -- Birch John, 19:05:04 09/12/16 Mon [1]

She was on PCNC a couple times, and she seemed very nice, and good natured. She was nowhere near as obnoxious as the self-important McNickle, whose greatest moment came when Teresa Heinz Kerry told him off. Colin is one of the self-important types who's given the Trib a bad name. I have to disagree on the editorial end. It was clear Salena was weak journalistically and she had trouble keeping her conservative biases out of her work. I will say she was superior to Jennifer Graham, the oddball PG editorial columnist who embarrassed herself in a few months and left after disrespecting Pennsylvania deer hunters. Zito was never that dumb.

There is enough right wing media online and in print, good and bad that Salena will have no trouble finding work. And Uncle Dick's buds at the Heritage Foundation always appreciate a fellow ideologue.
