It's not a paper for Pittsburgh as a whole anymore. It's a paper for the 1%, a group Johnny Boy Block is part of, with his brother and cousins. He surrounds himself with snooty dilettante editors like Beltway Dave, slices away a lot of the features sections and figures if "da yinzers" can't afford $ 2 a copy or can't find home delivery, hell with 'em. He'll target the high end market alone and include sports as a come-on. Toledo's profits don't come from the Blade and PG but from TV stations and cable companies. Serving the affluent alone won't work. Whether they've been in business 230 years or not, by using that "strategy," the PG will still go under. At the end, they'll whine how Western Pennsylvania didn't support them, not realizing things like $ 2 per copy only proved they didn't give longtime readers any reason to stick around.
