Scott - I remember you and Cathy - back then I think everyone called you "Scotty". My family belonged to the pool club for years and I looked forward to hanging out there every summer. We had "lounges" right near the front office, and we could see your grandfather through his office window, calling "Rosa from the concession" for her phone calls! I think your grandfather took some delight in adding a little flourish to some of his announcements ... I think he saw and appreciated me and my family laughing right outside his window.

I also remember your uncle (?) Dominick, who used to stand guard at the front door. Nice guy ... I think we kids often gave him a hard time, but he was never too harsh with us.

I think I'm a little younger than you (I'm 40 now), and if I remember correctly, you were "mat boy" with Adam Helfant for at least a summer or two. I was great friends and school mates with his younger brother, Robert.

My family and I lived in Building 1 from (I think) 1965 to August 1990. The kids I hung with were Robert Helfant, Andrew Chernicoff, Brian Perlowitz, Steven Shankewitz, Keith Black, Adam and David Yuzik, and a kid named Mark Hamill, who was ALWAYS in trouble (I can to this day hear your grandfather on the loudspeaker: "HAMILL! To the office!").

Others I remember: JD (also a mat boy at some point I think), Randy and Tracy Raciopi (sp?), Audra and Justin Krell, Billy and Sean Kane, Scott Dubin, Micky Boyle, JoAnne Zemole (? - did you date her for a little while? I actually went to Midwood HS with her years after meeting her at the pool). Probably some more, but it's years since I tried to remember these names and faces. Oh - of course I remember Steven Shankewitz's family - his sister Shari was also a school mate of mine at P.S. 251.

Shame to know that the pool is gone. I especially remember the year-end tournaments we had, with swimming and diving competitions, a greased watermelon contest (!), and contests for all the games in the back (paddle ball, ping pong, shuffle board, basketball). It was a great place to spend the summer, a great time to be a kid, and a chance for lifelong memories that can never be duplicated.

Thanks for sharing your memories!
