She turned her attention to Nitasha, sensing the fear that arose from the once calming child. Bay gave her a look of encouragement…one that told her to trust and not to fear, although she could hardly blame the girl. Bay did not fear Craven; she did not see what there was to fear. The man had many faults…he wanted nothing but power, and he was nothing without the guards that constantly watched out for his protection. Perhaps Nitasha did not understand that, but Bay did and she was not blind to his manipulative ways. The king used people’s fear in order to get them to do what he wanted, but if those same people sat back and worked together, he could easily be overthrown. They had to fight fear to beat it, but no one realized that…no one saw the escape from the king’s reign. She followed Tasha in silence, knowing that it was probably best not to say anything at all. Baylina was a bit nervous herself –she did not wish to encounter more problems, but she was prepared for anything that could happen. Bay absent mindedly clung to the cloak that covered her body; it had been the one thing that shielded her from the wandering eyes of strangers; it had spared her their remarks and comments…the things that had made her the outsider that she was. As they entered the throne room, Baylina watched as Nitasha fell humbly to the ground in order to spare herself certain death; however, Craven was not Baylina’s king, nor would he ever be, so she stood firmly on two feet. Bay did not say anything to Nitasha, knowing that it would be best if she did as the king wished for the moment. Bay was extremely daring around the king –she showed no fear or inferiority, but she remained cautious of her surroundings. When Craven spoke and called forth the slave boy, Bay shook her head, “No, Nitasha is just fine.” She told him, saying the girl’s name as well. It was likely the king hadn’t even known it, but it mattered little in the present moment. She turned sharply to glare at the approaching guards, hands sliding closer to the boomerangs at her side in warning. If they even touched the child she would strike, and she was daring them to test her. Finally, Baylina looked back at the king, “I wish to buy her from you.” She stated simply, not explaining why she wanted the girl. Then she realized that she had no money. ‘Great, glad I was smart enough to think of that.’ Bay thought, reprimanding herself for her brash thinking. It was perhaps what had gotten her in to so much trouble on the battlefield, though she had an amazing way to always find a way out in the end. “I don’t have money, but perhaps there is another way I can repay you?” She asked cautiously, looking to him for his response and already sensing his ignorant boredom. ‘Stupid man –how you became king…I won’t ever know.’ [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
