The older man eyed the young sweet-talker before him, and found himself easily swayed. He seemed a trustable sort, not too shabbily dressed, well spoken... most who came to his pub trying to weasel their way into something suspicious would atleast have the telltale worn-out shoes, but this Thaddious possessed a nice, newly-cobbled pair. Even nicer than his own, he thought. He looks back up at the younger man.

"...alright. Don't be worrying yourself about the money, but if the little contest might help the girl into a better household by catching the eye of someone of a high-born sort, well then... better on'er. Just make sure there's no disgrace in it, and you have my permission." He didn't add on 'And my silence,' but if Mr. Bartleby lacked the good sense to mention it, it didn't show.

"Ya got an hour. Then she has to clean the place before the night crowd." Her glowered a bit at the boy as if to emphasize his fatherly place in Elaine's life, and turned his back to continue his work.
