I know I’m not the easiest person to be in the company of and I perhaps express myself a little more brash than I need to but… I respect you BUFFY You do? KENNEDY We all do. DAWN You’re combing my hair and watching American Idol when if you didn’t notice…we’re sharing a room because yours fell off the house! BUFFY It didn’t fall DAWN Buffy BUFFY Xander’s getting it sorted, don’t worry Dawn stands to her feet DAWN Don’t tell me not to worry! We have every reason to worry BUFFY Calm down DAWN Buffy don’t you get it? I spent three years being the key – we’re pretty connected. INT – MAIN ROOM – DAY Andrew, Xander, Nancy, RJ, Vi, Buffy, Tara, Willow, Caridad, Kennedy, Faith and Nancy are all dotted around the room as Dawn takes centre stage BUFFY Listen up. Dawn says she knows something about the key and what it’s planning. Right now we need all the information we can get so all attention is on her Buffy steps to the side and let’s Dawn walk forward DAWN Hey (beat) Firstly I want to apologise for you all being lied to. I know it wasn’t my fault but I’m still sorry – secondly, the key is still a part of me. I don’t think I’m it anymore, I’m just human but I still feel it and I know where and when it’s going to attack. Dawn steps closer into everyone DAWN Tori wasn’t a bad person – not at all. She came here from Melbourne and she was scared. On her first night she was walking through the woods the same night Buffy and Faith locked the key away. (beat) Well, it wasn’t locked tight enough – it’s essence could still reach her, it made her it’s puppet – made sure everything she did lead up to her finding that bag and freeing it. She wasn’t a bad person and that’s why when you find her – you save, you don’t attack. BUFFY It’s not that simple Dawnie DAWN I know. The main thing we have to do is find her – Will, get on the net see if you can pull up anything there is about her, anything at all. We have to tap into any Tori that’s left and push the key further down (pause) She’s not the only person out there – it followed her right to the house and entered god knows how many people. WILLOW A locator spell to find them perhaps? DAWN They’ll all be at Graduation BUFFY How do you know? DAWN Because that’s what it planned – it only took students from the high school. You have to trust me XANDER We do Dawn looks around the room DAWN Where’s Spike? Buffy shuffles awkwardly DAWN Okay that’s a talk for another time… here’s the plan CUT TO. INT – WILLOW AND TARAS ROOM – NIGHT TARA I can’t believe how grown up Dawn’s gotten WILLOW She’s changed a lot TARA She’s like miniature Buffy but, less scary WILLOW You think this plan’s going to work? TARA I-I think she knows what she’s talking about WILLOW That’s not what I asked TARA (thinks) I think it will work WILLOW I hope so, I mean it’s risky – way risky TARA I know. So is everything else we do Will, we’ll make it through Tara gets into bed and closes her eyes. The room around her changes as she opens them – she’s in the middle of the woods with dozens of trees and animals surrounding her – growing or moving closer as vines start to twist around her She wakes, startled. WILLOW Bad dream sweety? TARA What…I… WILLOW Hey, it’s expected – listen, you stay in okay I’ve got to get to the school TARA School? Tara looks at the clock as Willow rushes out – it’s already morning. END OF PART ONE EXT – SUNNYDALE – DAY Caridad, Vi, Kennedy and Dawn are on the look out for Tori VI Are you sure it’s safe for you to be here? KENNEDY I’m pretty sure she’s safe with us Vi CARIDAD Yeah we won’t let anything happen DAWN Thanks, but I’m purely bait CARIDAD Bait for what? Do you think we can catch it? DAWN No…I…I never said my plan went without flaws KENNEDY So, Dawn – you’re connected to this thing, where should we started tracing dots? DAWN Beats me. INT – SCHOOL – NIGHT Tara is stroking Willow’s hair as she sits at a computer TARA You seem distracted WILLOW Yeah, I think it’s the eight hours at work followed by the…eight hours working TARA Get some sleep WILLOW I can’t! I have to stay up here since the laptop got blown out of Buffy’s room! TARA Will, you’re going to exhaust your… Tara looks at the window and sees a bird sitting at the edge – staring right at her. She leaves Willow and walks over to the window – opening it, the bird enters and rests on her hand WILLOW What are you… TARA Shh… Tara closes her eyes as a gust of wind flips through her hair Willow stands from her desk in shock as light begins to surround Tara WILLOW Tara… Tara’s hair turns white – streaming behind her as she smiles, a woman’s figure appears in front of them as the light dims WILLOW Who are you? WOMAN I am all that is, I’ll be all that will WILLOW That’s mysterious for higher power right? WOMAN Well, yes TARA What’s going on? WOMAN You’ve been chosen – the last in a series of tests. WILLOW What kinds of tests? WOMAN The two of you – your love, it was destiny – foreseen like all of your actions by us, since the day you both were born (long pause) You’ve both suffered many trials throughout your relationship – all nessacary to one and the other. The woman touches Willow’s face and smiles at her WOMAN You, Willow, fought back darkness and grew of your own will – determination, courage, commitment. You earned your life as Goddess. The woman steps over to Tara and strokes her hair back behind her ears WOMAN Even beyond the grave you guided Willow – you gave her power to save the slayer line, in your new life you found the saviour of the battle and returned her safely – you’re nurturing, giving and sensitive – you are all that nature is, like the mother herself Willow and Tara are squeezing each others hands WOMAN Together the two of you guard the slayer line like we did for centuries – you make the rules and you break them. You are the powers that have come together to change the world – you belong. The woman places her hand over both of theirs, smiling before fading away again TARA W-what was that? WILLOW (smiling) I think…I think you’re a Goddess Tara smiles in confusion and disbelief CUT TO. INT – SEWERS – NIGHT Vi rubs her face as Tori grabs a pole – shaking it around near Vi. The two girls are circling each other VI I’m not here to hurt you! We want to help you! TORI Right! You all love me so much, so damn much that you just have to help poor old me! VI I’m serious you need to calm down TORI Calm down? Have you any idea what’s happening to me? I’ve been possessed since I got here! Nancy is smiling at Xander ANDREW Are you gonna throw up? NANCY Marry me! ANDREW Hello! You’re dating…oh XANDER What?! NANCY Marry me XANDER I need to pull over ANDREW Good because I really have to pee Andrew jumps out of the car as Xander stares out of the window, Nancy stares at him XANDER Nancy… NANCY I know. EXT – FOREST – NIGHT Buffy is walking through the woods alone. She clearly has something on her mind as Dawn’s words about travelling echo through her mind. She has the slayer bag flung over her shoulder FAITH (V.O) You should’ve been there B KENDRA (V.O) I am Kendra, the vampire slayer JOYCE (V.O) Have you tried not being a slayer Buffy places the bag on the ground and opens it, pulling out a gas can – she pours it all over the bag and flicks a match at it. The flames are green, the smoke is shaped like a devil’s smile and a voice enters Buffy’s head FADE TO BLACK FAITH (V.O) Maybe it’s time to move on B END. Wonder what the plan is, though. Okay, I'll wait. The strange woman sounds more like a Guardian than a Goddess, so is that what she make Willow and Tara into? AHA! It was Christine Healy. So Tori's aware of the Key, its charging state and its intent. Dawn was right. I'm glad Tori isn't inherently bad. Yeah! Xander and Nancy. You're not even gonna pull another Anya death here are you? Somebody has to have a happy, lasting relationship around here. Parents banned from graduation?!? Bloody hell! Would never happen. That event is for parents as much as for the students. That could use a 'splainy' if you're gonna stick to it. I like that Vi understands making the choices. She and Kennedy keep seeking rights and independence to go along with the Slayer responsibility. Well done for several eps on this point. There's a clear distinction between real!Tori and possessed!Tori. I like that it's clear when she's taken over at Willow's office. DAWN THE VAMPIRE SLAYER! Too bad Xander gets to fix something yet again. You know I'm gonna like this concept: BUFFY - I know. I just hope she knows what she’s in for FAITH - Maybe that’s why she done it - because she know’s, because she wants to do it Unfortunately, I don't get the purpose and motive for burning the bag at the end. You're mysterious enough about the voice Buffy gets that the 'splainy is probably in the next ep.
