Giles and Kennedy are checking up the stock delivery for the next day
CUT TO.
EXT – SUN THEATRE – NIGHT
XANDER
Well that was…that was…I can’t really think of words for what that was
NANCY
Who knew Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck would have such little chemistry
XANDER
Only everyone who’s ever bought people magazine
NANCY
(laughing)
XANDER
Alright, points for making you laugh
NANCY
Points for more than that
Nancy leans in and kisses Xander gently on the lips, he closes his eyes for one second before springing them back open
NANCY
What’s wrong?
XANDER
I’m sorry, I can’t do this…I…
(begins to walk off, before starting to run)
I’m sorry
Nancy is left alone looking more than confused.
CUT TO.
INT – MAGIC SHOP – NIGHT
Willow walks in to the shop where Giles is working alone.
WILLOW
Hey, where is every one?
GILES
Willow, at last you’re here
WILLOW
Um, yeah what’s wrong? Did something happen?
GILES
No, I’m just happy to see you
WILLOW
Really? Me?
GILES
Why wouldn’t I be? Simply being in your company is just…
WILLOW
Giles did you use the special spices to make cookies again?
GILES
Actually, no
(beat)
Oh! We have visitors
WILLOW
Where?
Willow looks around with a “what’s going on?” look all over face
WILLOW
I don’t see anyone
GILES
No, I don’t suppose you would
WILLOW
What?
GILES
Well, um, they’re not here yet.
WILLOW
Okaay, are you sure you didn’t use the spices?
GILES
Tea?
Giles grabs a flask from the side and sits down at the table
GILES
Care to join me
WILLOW
Giles what’s going on?
Giles pours Willow a drink and shifts it over to her
GILES
Nothing your greatness
Willow practically chokes on the drink as he says this
WILLOW
Greatness? What the…
She folds to the floor and spills the rest of the drink everywhere.
Four Haggard old women come from the back room and scoop Willow up
As they get to the door, one of the women claps their hands, Giles holds his head in pain before coming round and realising what he’s just done.
CUT TO.
INT – SUMMERS HOUSE – NIGHT
Buffy and Spike are both stood around in silence as Giles crashes through the door.
SPIKE
This isn’t a bloody drop in centre
BUFFY
Giles what’s wrong?
GILES
It would appear that I’ve made a somewhat terrible and idiotic mistake
CUT TO.
INT – CAVE – NIGHT
Willow slowly stirs to awareness only to find herself propped up on a throne in a cave
WILLOW
This is not your average kidnapping
WOMAN
Would her highness care for a drink?
WILLOW
Um, no…thanks
Willow looks around as hundreds and hundreds of the haggard women surround her
WILLOW
I don’t mean to be rude or anything b-but, what the hell?!
WOMAN
We simply wish to praise your divine self, like we believe everyone else should do
WILLOW
I think you’ve got the wrong guy
WOMAN
No, we work our magic on the mortals for you to bring what they don’t see, to show them your power
WILLOW
The mortals?
WOMAN
The one’s you guide
WILLOW
You worked magic on my students? I am so fired
WOMAN
(angry)
They were foolish not to see, as was the old man
WILLOW
Old man?
(beat)
Giles!
Willow looks closer at the woman and spots the stone around her neck
WILLOW
Hey you’re the one’s who’ve been messing with the slayer’s
WOMAN
They are tainted oh great one
WILLOW
Tainted?
WOMAN
In pure! They are not complete, they are not human souls they can not be affected by your greatness, they are the babies people dispose of
(smiles)
Dispose we shall
The woman nods at two of the others who pull curtains to the side revealing Kennedy bound and gagged.
WILLOW
Kennedy!
BUFFY (O.S)
I knew it!
Everyone in the room turns and looks at her standing at the entrance with a large club / axe thing in her hands.
BUFFY
You’re not here for a really big bake sale!
WILLOW
Buffy!…
(panicked)
Kennedy
Buffy looks over and spot’s Kennedy being lowered from the platform
BUFFY
I’ve got it.
Buffy flips over keeping just one hand on the ground as both legs come down onto the heads of the two women by Kennedy.
She kicks another approaching woman and swings the bat at another.
WOMAN
Why do you ruin our ceremony?
Willow raises her fingers in an attempt to magic the rope away, however, it’s protected by another spell
WOMAN
We’ve gone through months of trouble to find you, to reach you and you think we’d let you leave us just like that?
(beat)
You’re wrong
SPIKE (O.S)
We’ve never heard that speech before
Spike punches the woman flat to the ground
SPIKE
Looks like the Mrs needs a hand
BUFFY
Spike
SPIKE
Get the girl, I’ll hold up here
(grinning)
Could use a bit of rough and tumble
Buffy smacks the axe down onto the chains by Kennedy’s wrists and ankles. Freeing her. Kennedy rips the gag off
BUFFY
You okay?
KENNEDY
Ready to rumble
BUFFY
Remind me to tell Robin that puns is part of the tuition
Buffy smiles as she hands the club to Kennedy, keeping the axe to herself.
BUFFY
You ready slayer?
KENNEDY
Let’s kick some ass
An understanding clearly passes through the girls as they stare at each other once more before charging into battle.
Kennedy round kicks into the face of one of the women as Spike boots one woman backwards, bowling more down. Buffy finds herself cornered as the women approach her with knifes.
BUFFY
Oh way not good.
She looks above her where she spots the rope used to lower Kennedy into the pit of darkness. With one giant thrust she throws herself up there and hangs from the rope
BUFFY
Spike! Spike!
SPIKE
(looking up)
Buffy!
He looks across to the platform and nods at Kennedy, both charge at a group of the women and swing their arms and weapons around like mad people. The women move in retreat only to find themselves stood on the platform.
Buffy finally loses grip and begins to fall, tugging the rope as she does.
It begins to unwind itself, flinging the women into the pit. A seemingly never-ending fall.
KENNEDY
Ten down…
WOMAN
(to Willow)
We worshipped you, you should have loved us! And Now you must suffer for your betrayal
The woman pulls a large knife from her belt and starts moving at Willow
BUFFY
Willow!
Kennedy sprints through the crowd and leaps into the air, booting the woman in the face, hard. The woman swings her knife one last time slicing Kennedy’s arm as she lands. As the woman falls she lands on the tip of her knife as her arm twists round.
Kennedy stands over her looking a little shocked from the pain and the fall. She soon comes round and unties Willow.
Both immediately grabbing each other, kissing in relief.
Buffy finishes with what appears to be the last of the women. She spots Kennedy and Willow and smiles. She’s happy for them. She looks round the room for Spike – they catch each other’s eyes. She’s happy.
WOMAN#2
You thought it ended there!
All four of them look up as dozen’s more women appear at the ledge
END OF PART THREE
INT – CAVE – NIGHT
KENNEDY
Is there like an elevator from the bottom of that pit?
SPIKE
Bloody women!
BUFFY/KENNEDY/WILLOW
Hey!
SPIKE
Wrong time to say that
The women start charging down back to battle
WILLOW
Stop it
(ignored)
STOP IT!
Willow is ignored one more time. She throws her hands hard at her sides and looks to the roof.
WILLOW
I command
Her eyes go black and her hair goes white as light surrounds
WILLOW
Stop!
The sounds echoes through the room as the women bow, Kennedy, Buffy and Spike cover their ears
SPIKE
Bloody hell!
BUFFY
What was that?
WILLOW
(back to normal)
Not to be completey ungrateful and it’s cool that you worship me and everything but this has to stop. I don’t want this
WOMAN
But you’re out goddess
WILLOW
Then, as your goddess I demand you stop obeying me and go back to Montana and live your lives
WOMAN
Montana?
WILLOW
Wherever! This isn’t healthy, it’s a little creepy and it’s making me nervous so please stop
WOMAN
Anything you say oh great one
WILLOW
Good, okay – I mean, NO! don’t do that!
CUT TO.
INT – MAGIC SHOP – DAY
BUFFY
I can’t believe you didn’t tell me about this, any of us
WILLOW
It slipped my mind
GILES
Of course because it’s every day that one becomes a goddess
WILLOW
I didn’t want a fuss
BUFFY
Will, this is a serious…crazy little old lady sacrificing your “babies”…not average
KENNEDY
I think it’s kind of cool
BUFFY
Oh it is way cool!
(off Giles look)
But still serious
GILES
What does Xander have to say about all of this?
CUT TO.
INT – ESPRESSO PUMP – DAY
Nancy is sat at a table alone as Xander awkwardly approaches her
XANDER
Five months ago
Nancy looks up
XANDER
The only woman I ever loved died five months ago
NANCY
Xander…
XANDER
That’s why I couldn’t kiss you, If I kiss you it felt like I was saying good bye to her and I’m not ready to do that yet
NANCY
I understand
XANDER
She was such a big part of me for four years, we were going to be married but I screwed that up and even though I said sorry over and over, I’ll never feel she truly forgave me for leaving her when I did.
(choked up, so is Nancy)
Now I’ll never know, she’s left me and I hate her for it. I hate her for letting me fall so in love with her for such a long time
Nancy is tearing up as is Xander
XANDER
I hate that I’ll never be able to tell her she’s out of line, that she’ll never put me down and make sarcastic comments about me. I hate that she died and left me alone…I hate that I want to kiss you so bad but I can’t. Not yet. I’m sorry.
Xander starts to walk away, both are crying at this point.
NANCY
Xander!
He turns to her, sniffling as she wipes her eyes
NANCY
I’ll wait for you
They pass understanding smiles as he walks away.
