Giles and Buffy are sat listening to the acoustic band as the smile on in silence
GILES
Something’s on your mind?
BUFFY
No, it’s just…okay, since Willow called all the slayer’s I kind of, well I’ve been slacking
GILES
Slacking?
BUFFY
I’ve only done
(off look)
Slayed one vampire in last month, I’ve been leaving it all to them and Dawn
GILES
(stunned)
Dawn?
BUFFY
I know, but she’s really…at grips with the slaying thing
GILES
Buffy, I’m sure they understand that you’re taking a break. You’ve been doing this since you were fifteen years old
BUFFY
I know but, I feel obliged to let them take over now
GILES
You shouldn’t feel that you have to do anything you don’t want to
BUFFY

Willow grins into the shop as she spots Buffy and Giles, she begins to walk in.
BUFFY
And Willow just tries to end the world…
Willow stops in her tracks upon hearing her name
GILES
She still misses Tara
BUFFY
I know, we all do, it’s just I wish she’d chosen someone else to go on the rebound with
Shocked, Willow runs away from the shop
BUFFY
I didn’t mean that. It’s just, I loved Tara she was my friend and I just don’t get Kennedy, but, if she makes Will happy then I can live with her
GILES
It can’t be easy for you, or for Dawn having five of you staying at the house
BUFFY

GILES
Please, Buffy I know about Spike
BUFFY
Giles let me explain…
GILES
You don’t need to explain anything to me Buffy you’re a grown woman and…as much as I thought I’d be attending conventions with Andrew before saying this, Spike’s not a bad man.
BUFFY

Giles sits back and takes a sip from his coffee
GILES
I wouldn’t go that far
Both let out a small laugh before continuing chatting.

VI
Are you sure this is the right place?
XANDER

The girls look around completely stunned at the “assault course”
KENNEDY
We’re paint balling at 10pm?
(beat)

INT – SUMMERS HOUSE – NIGHT
Willow, Dawn and…Andrew are sat in front of the TV in their pyjamas
ANDREW
This movie was a lot more fun the first thirty times
DAWN
Anyone else think Alicia Silverstone looks like a pug?
ANDREW
More of a bush baby
WILLOW

DAWN
You sound all deflated
WILLOW

DAWN

More Popcorn
INT – SUMMERS KITCHEN – NIGHT
Dawn places the popcorn bag in the microwave and stands at the side cautiously. She looks over at a slightly wilted plant and strokes it leaves.
DAWN
Thirsty fella
Dawn takes a glass from the cupboard and fills it with water, she turns back to the plant only to see that it’s completely dead, brown and fallen to pieces
DAWN
Wow…you were real thirsty

EXT – FOREST – NIGHT
The girls are all running wild as Spike stand looking “cool” next to Xander.
XANDER
This is nice
SPIKE
How’s that?
XANDER
Guy friends, that aren’t Andrew
SPIKE
I’m not ya soddin’ friend
XANDER
(Oh)
Right
SPIKE
(rolls eyes)
Well, I guess I’m your mate but that’s the best your getting
(beat)
This is gonna turn into a male bonding session isn’t it?
XANDER
I’m afraid so
SPIKE
You’ve got ten minutes. No pause. No questions say your piece and then I’ll do mine.
XANDER

SPIKE
Nine minutes and thirty two seconds
XANDER
Jeez you were serious
SPIKE

I miss her.
SPIKE

Here I was preparing myself for a bloody lecture on the trials and…
(sympathetic smile)

Spike awkwardly places his hand near Xander shoulder and pats him on the back.
SPIKE

(manly cough)
You think we should round up the kiddies?
Further in the forest, Kennedy jumps down from a tree and is grabbed from behind.
KENNEDY
Vi!
VI
What?
KENNEDY
Where are you?
VI
You’re not tackling me?
KENNEDY
I thought you were tackling me!
Kennedy slams her foot down on the foot behind her and flips them over her head, smashing her gun into their face and knocking them out. Vi, repeats the same thing.
KENNEDY
Where are the other girls?
VI
They headed back to the van
Kennedy kneels over the figure and grabs the top of it’s hood
KENNEDY
Time to see who you are…
She carefully peels back the hood to see a haggard old lady with a stone tied around her neck
KENNEDY
What the…
CUT TO.
EXT – ESPRESSO PUMP – NIGHT
BUFFY
Guess we lost track of time
GILES
Yet I’m surprisingly awake
BUFFY
You had eleven cups of coffee and that black shot’s stuff, I’m surprised you’re not drilling a whole in the pavement from standing there
GILES
I think perhaps now might be a good time to go through some paper work
BUFFY
You want help?
GILES
Actually I’m going to be going to Los Angeles for two weeks
BUFFY
Talk about a fly by visit
GILES
I have an appointment with Wesley, to talk about the council and the possibility of re-establishing it, under my terms
BUFFY
Wow, you certainly don’t waste any time
GILES
That’s because there’s no time to waste
(pause)
Is there any messages you’d like me to pass on to Angel?
BUFFY
Just, thank you
GILES
Right, well I guess we should be heading…
Giles is cut off and two people knock him to the ground
BUFFY
Hey!
(beat)
Are you okay?
GILES
Yes, I think the jitteriness eased the fall
BUFFY
You mind?
GILES
Go ahead
Buffy begins to run down the street to catch up with the people
BUFFY
Hey!
She grabs one of them by the shoulder and spins them round with enough force that their hood falls down to reveal a haggard old woman.
BUFFY
I know you…your eyes
The woman rubs the stone around her neck before smacking Buffy flat down
Buffy stands in pain
BUFFY
Not human
She grabs the lid from a near by trash can and Frisbees it through the air slicing into the woman’s back
The other woman runs off before Buffy can catch up with her.
Carefully Buffy walks over to the fallen woman and turns her over, snatching the stone from around her neck
BUFFY
What d’ya know, comes with a free gift
CUT TO.
EXT – FOREST – NIGHT
Kennedy and Vi step out of the forest holding the women with their arms behind their backs
KENNEDY
Hey guys guess what we…
Both look on in horror, the van is totalled and everyone is knocked out, the girls jump in shock at the sound of scratching metal as Xander limps from behind the van
VI
What happened?
XANDER
Demon’s…they didn’t take anything they just…attacked and ran
KENNEDY
Is everyone okay?
XANDER
They’re all alive
VI
We need to get them out of here, fast.
KENNEDY
Way fast
Kennedy, Xander and Vi look around in fear as around a dozen of the old women arrive.
CUT TO.
INT – GILES CAR – NIGHT
Giles is driving at full speed as he sings along to Alice Cooper
CUT TO.
EXT – FOREST – NIGHT
XANDER
Move them to the side of the road
Spike slowly comes round as does another of the slayer’s
XANDER
Spike, flag down a truck
SPIKE
What?
XANDER
Just do it Spike!
Spike stomps over to the edge of the road waving his hands as Giles skids past him. Crashing to a halt before reversing back about 20 yards
GILES
Spike?
SPIKE
Rupert?
GILES
Why are you hitch hiking?
SPIKE
Hitch hiking…I’m bloody tryin’ to blag a ride
GILES
Hitch hiking
SPIKE
You got room for Me, Xander and a bunch of kids?
(beat)
Or just me
GILES
You were in the woods collecting children?
SPIKE
(ignoring)
Come on!
The girls and Xander rush to the car and cram in as tight as they can
KENNEDY
Drive
GILES
What’s going on?
KENNEDY
Drive!
The car speeds out and does a U Turn back to Sunnydale as the women wonder off into the mountains behind the forest.
END OF PART THREE
INT – SUMMERS HOME – NIGHT
The gang (Buffy, Willow, Xander, Andrew, Giles, Spike, Vi & Kennedy) are stood around the main room
BUFFY
We need to find out what’s going on, if these are the same women that walked into Giles and I
WILLOW
What do you think they are?
KENNEDY
I got this stone…
Kennedy passes the stone to Buffy
BUFFY
This is like the one I got, only different
ANDREW
So, not like it?
GILES
Dawn, perhaps you and I should do some research over at the magic box?
DAWN
On it, Later
BUFFY
Dawn it’s late
DAWN
I’m with Giles and it’s Friday
GILES
Let’s go
Giles looks at Buffy deeply before leading out of the door.
BUFFY
Willow see if you can find anything about these upstairs, Andrew get on the net, Xander…get to the hospital
SPIKE
Guess I’ll just…
BUFFY
You’re coming with me, we’re going hunting
SPIKE
Great
Kennedy stands quietly in the corner as Buffy walks past her
BUFFY
Kennedy…
(smiles)
You did good.
CUT TO.
INT – MOUNTAIN TAVERN – NIGHT
Four haggard women sit in a circle, they throw four stones into the centre and begin to chant.
WOMAN
The sun shall rise, the rise shall fall to seek to see to know it all
WOMAN
If natures gift become deformed, deformity shall now be scorned
Several hundred women now fill the cave
ALL
To light to dark, to tear apart, for cold is hot and pure is pure. The cure the darkness never ends, shine bright pure light until night’s end.
