05.10 - ESH - Indigenous pledge to close the gap
PVS Workfind commits to employ Indigenous Australians through Andrew Forrest's Australian Employment Covenant.
National employment services and training provider PVS Workfind announced today it will create jobs for Indigenous Australians in partnership with Fortescue Metals Group CEO Andrew Forrest and his GenerationOne campaign, in conjunction with the Australian Employment Covenant which aims to provide jobs for 50,000 Indigenous Australians.
PVS Workfind will sign a covenant with Mr Forrest today outlining its commitment to Indigenous Australians at a GenerationOne business breakfast in Brisbane as part of a national road show. Under the agreement PVS, as part of the ESH Group of companies, will employ at least 10 Indigenous Australians across all areas of the business including consulting, administration and sales. The commitment is in addition to 15 Indigenous staff currently employed within the business, representing in total almost five per cent of ESH Group’s total workforce.
ESH Group CEO Barry Borzillo said PVS Workfind was committed to creating sustainable jobs for Australia’s Indigenous community.
“We believe this is a remarkable opportunity to help break the vicious cycle of unemployment and poverty amongst Indigenous Australians by providing clear pathways to training and employment and in doing so, helping many in our community reach their full potential,” Mr Borzillo said.
Andrew Forrest, founder GenererationOne said, “GenerationOne is a movement to break the cycle of Indigenous unemployment and poverty once and for all. It’s really encouraging to see companies like PVS Workfind pledging their support to provide real jobs and make a real difference to the lives of Indigenous Australians. There is so much Australian employers and Indigenous employees can learn from each other, without impacting the excellent cultures which run through them both.”
So far, approximately 25,000 jobs have been pledged.
Mr Borzillo said the company is also seeking to assist signed-up businesses through its own Indigenous employment programs, providing expertise in training, mentoring and creating clear pathways to employment.
He said ESH was well placed to work with other businesses to help them train, employ and mentor Indigenous Australians.
“Many employers are extremely passionate about helping Indigenous Australians receive proper training and employment opportunities but need the right skills, engagement strategies and training to do so. We can provide that given we work with more than 2,600 job seekers and many employers on a daily basis.”
