Explaining Hamlet's insanity based on his "inability" to kill is simply a result of evaluating his circumstances. He is considered insane because he cannot conform to what is expected of him (by the reader; the reader is arguably the only person qualified to examine and judge Hamlet objectively). However, I don't think this is a reasonable rationalization for Hamlet's insanity. Hamlet's inability to kill stems from many different variables and thus his inability merely exhibits his choices/reactions to those influences, not explaining insanity.
