This reminds me of blake and his fascination of innocence and experience. A little kid will see the snake and an elephant because its cool and funny (for a small kid...) but an adult will see a hat because...well okay it does look like a hat but a hat makes more sense than an elephant. They've lived for awhile (the experience) and its depicted by these two as a negative, that theyve lost their childhood innocence. So the child has to bring himself down to an adult in that the child still has his innocence and its almost as if the adult is inferior to the child because of his lack of innocence.
