Fox has given a put pilot order to "Dan the Weatherman", a single-camera comedy from "The Life & Times Of Tim" creator Steve Dildarian.
I actually liked Life & Times of Tim a lot; I don't know if that style of humor can be translated to a live-action format but it will be interesting to see.
Written by Dildarian, "Dan the Weatherman" centers on the eponymous character. After getting fired from his cushy job as a weatherman at the local TV station, Dan finds it’s not enough to be a charming white man in this world. He reluctantly ends up at the neighboring Spanish TV station.
It doesn't say whether or not Dildarian will be playing Dan or not, but it certainly seems like he could, going by his "Tim" character.
LIVE DISCUSSION: Chadwick Boseman/Cardi B -- The Doc, 23:03:07 04/07/18 Sat
I think I'm probably the Only person in Western Civilization who HASN'T seen "Black Panther" yet...but at least I know Boseman was a good Jackie Robinson. We're on in 30, follow along @TVTracksRadio for Vibranium-powered comments.
Predictions for this week's episode -- -, 10:14:48 04/13/18 Fri
Just realized we haven't done a thread for this week's show yet.
The one thing I will predict is that the writing will probably be better this week. Even the commercials are making me laugh (Mulaney ordering a "Shirley Temple" and the bartender setting down a little curly-haired girl next to him. Mulaney smirks at camera- "The perfect joke!")
They just did Stefon, so I doubt they'll do it again, but I would like to see Hader make some kind of cameo. Maybe a filmed piece with Hader and Mulaney- they do great work collaborating on "Documentary Now!" together.
I also wonder if they will bring the "Oh Hello" guys over to SNL- that would be interesting. It's always kind of cool when sketch characters from outside SNL appear on SNL (like when they did "Men on Film" when Damon Wayans hosted).
I expect this to be a good episode. I think just having Mulaney there in the writing room will help (I notice he appeared on Fallon on Monday night, leaving himself pretty open to rewriting/doing pre-tapes/etc this whole week).
The original plan was to have posted this last Saturday, but then the First Nor'Easter hit. Now that the 2nd one is bearing down as we speak, I want to get this out of the way in case of yet another power failure. Enjoy!

There are quite a few shows whose premiere dates are up in the air right now- "AP Bio" from Mike O'Brien, which should be premiering on NBC sometime in early 2018.
Also "The Last O.G." with Tracy Morgan and Tiffany Haddish on TBS.
Wow!! Miller's having a rough year so far. First, he was accused of sexual harassment. Now, he's been arrested and accused of calling in a fake bomb threat. I have a feeling "Deadpool 2" will be his last movie for a while.
I was Looking over the Wikipedia for this Current season and John Mulaney isHosting the 847th -- Episode of SNL., 11:41:56 04/09/18 Mon
At this rate, this current season will end with the 850th episode of SNL. That is a major milestone episode number of you think of that.
By this logic, I'm wondering if we'll get a special host and musical guest for this season's finale.
The 800th episode of SNL features Melissa McCarthy and Kanye West, both friends of the show. Based on this, I'm wondering if SNL will do anything special for the season finale, aka Episode 850 of SNL.
Thoughts? Do you think we'll get a special line-up for the season finale? If so, who could you see being on?
A gathering of knowledge/comments on season 21: -- The final three., 11:15:40 04/03/18 Tue
By god, I never thought we’d get here. Before I go any further, I’d like to again thank everyone who has chimed in on these threads over the months. It’s been a major help for the podcast. So let’s get into it:
As far as memory serves, these are all strong outings. The Jim Carrey is the one that obviously stands out. That one has always been a bit of a classic so it’ll be interesting to see how it holds up these days. The Cure is an odd choice for a musical guest but I do think they were putting out some new music around then. And Chris Kattan continues to make his presence immediately known on the show...I remember the dancing sketch with Hatcher being fun. How about you folks?
Predictions for next week's show -- -, 10:52:01 03/29/18 Thu
Haha, I realize this is early to start this thread but we don't have a huge amount to talk about so I thought I'd start it off.
There are several possibilities for cameos in this episode.
Tracy Morgan's going to be on Jimmy Fallon on Monday, April 2nd. His show "The Last O.G." premieres Tuesday the 3rd. So he might cameo on next week's episode.
Then again, it's entirely possible he may host the April 14th episode to promote his show.
Mike Myers is also on Fallon on Wed the 4th. Don't know what he would be promoting- maybe we'll see him make a cameo on next week's episode of SNL.
Finally, I noticed Tiffany Haddish is on Fallon on Friday night. Not that she really has a reason to make a cameo in this episode but it's possible I guess.
With Boseman hosting, maybe we'll see some kind of Avengers-themed sketch. This might also mean we'll be seeing Scarlett J make another cameo (maybe as Ivanka as well).
Sudeikis will first appear in the April 15 episode and will stick around for the remaining shows.
Thoughts? This is going to be great!! I wish SNL would have Forte and Sudeikis co-host the finale together. It would even make sense for them to host the finale should Kenan decides to leave after this season. The three did a lot of sketches together.

Predictions For the Final Four Hosts of The Season -- ,,,,, 09:37:55 03/18/18 Sun
Considering that we now know that Chadwick Boseman will be hosting on April 7, we know that there will only be four more shows afterwards before Season 43 comes to an end. I figure that this could be our equivalent to all the Mach Madness brackets out there on the internet.
Here are my predictions as to who will be the final four hosts of the season:
April 14-- Amy Schumer- to promote "I Feel Pretty". The fact she last hosted about three years ago makes sense of the fat that she is due to host again at some point in the near future. if Schumer were to host next month, then, we would be getting her SNL return out of the way before May comes around. And, I would rather host in April instead of the final three shows of the season.
May 5-- Paul Rudd- to promote "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Ant-Man and The Wasp". Rudd hasn't hosted since December 2013. So, I feel he is due to host again. He always gives it his all when he hosts. So, I would enjoy seeing Rudd back to host for his fourth time. Maybe they could even do a sketch where he plays Ant-Man and the NL castmembers play fellow Avengers who would all be making fun of him for simply being known as Ant-Man. Bonus points if they bring in Scarlett Johansson to play Black Widow in the sketch.
May 12-- Maya Rudolph- to promote "Life of the Party". Rudolph hasn't hosted since February 2012, So, I feel she's due for a hosting return. Melissa McCarthy has two other movies opening later this year ("The Happytime Murders", "Can You Ever Forgive Me?"). So, I could see her hosting early next season instead. Plus, Rudolph hasn't hosted during this era of SNL. Plus, this would be the Mother's Day show. So, Maya Rudolph hosting this episode would make sense.
May 19-- Anne Hathaway to promote "Ocean's 8". Hathaway hasn't hosted since November 2012. So, I could see this episode being her fourth time on the show. Hathaway is always a very good host. I'm very surprised she hasn't been back in almost six years. Also, I could see her being a good host for the season finale. Also, we don't know if Kate McKinnon is leaving after this season. But, I feel Hathaway would be a good host for Kate's final episode, should this be the one.
These are my predictions for the final four hosts of the season. Thoughts? Who do you think will host SNL in the coming weeks to close out Season 43?
In this interview, Kenan says a few things that indicate this may possibly be his last season on SNL.
He mentions he has a development deal with NBC to possibly do a sitcom. He also says that now that Chris Redd has established himself on the show, he feels "more comfortable" leaving SNL.
If the season finale does end up being Kenan's final episode, I guess having Maya Rudolph back as host would make sense. Hopefully they'd also be able to get Sudeikis of course for the final What's Up With That.
I wonder if that would affect Kate McKinnon's decision to leave- she may not went to leave the same time as Kenan, as that might be too much of a loss for the show all at once.
Amy Poehler has signed on to make her feature directorial debut. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Poehler will direct, produce, and star in a Netflix comedy called Wine Country, which will also star SNL alums Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Maya Rudolph, Paula Pell, and Emily Spivey, with Tina Fey also attached in a featured role. Spivey wrote the script for the movie, which follows “longtime friends who go to Napa for a weekend getaway to celebrate a 50th birthday.” Netflix hasn’t yet announced a premiere date for the movie, which begins production this month.
SNL skit 😂😂😂. “The Apprentice” -- Laura Wollard, 21:39:10 03/18/18 Sun
Just one skit of “the Apprentice” with Alec Baldwin as Trump firing Sean Spicer aka Melissa Macarthy, etc. !!!!!!
It would be sooooo dang funny!!
SNL Season Discussion: Was Season 19 (1993-1994) An Overall Good or -- Bad Season?, 10:20:42 02/24/18 Sat
I thought we could liven up the board a little bit considering that SNL comes back in one week with new episodes. I thought this would be a good time to discuss the 93-94 season considering that Charles Barkley, who will be hosting the show next Saturday, was the first host of this particular season.
I have been watching a few episodes from 93-94 this week and I don't think this particular season was as bad as many people think it was. True, the episodes were a bit of a step-down in quality from the previous season. But, I thought there were some bright spots throughout the season.
For one thing, 93-94 saw hosting debuts from first-time hosts like Jeff Goldblum, Kelsey Grammer, and Helen Hunt. All three of them would end up hosting a gain in the coming seasons. We also had strong hosting returns from John Malcovich, John Goodman and Alec baldwin, who hosted the Valentine's Day episode with his then-wife Kim Basinger. I also thought that Patrick Stewart and Heather Locklear both did very well hosting their respective episodes.
But, there were some pretty weak hosting stints. I think we can all agree that Jason Patrick and Nancy Kerrigan were poor hosting choices. In addition, Martin Lawrence, as we all remember, proved to be a very controversial host, as evident by his stand-up monologue as well as his attitude in some of the evening's sketches.
As for the cast, I feel that Chris Farley, Adam Sandler and David Spade gave solid performances during the season. Spade, in particular started to do more in sketches and not just be confined to mostly doing "Hollywood Minute" Segments as the previous couple seasons.
IN addition, Norm MacDonald proved to be a great par of this season. He began his tenure with his commentary on the US Prison System during the "Weekend Update" segment on Goldblum's episode, which happened to be the third episode of the season. Norm would continue contributing memorable stuff throughout the season before taking over Update the following season. I still find MacDonald's impression of Andy Rooney in the season finale episode to be particularly hilarious.
Lastly, this season would be the final season for Phil Hartman, Rob Schneider and Julia Sweeney. Hartman continued to be memorable on the show and it was nice that he got to finish his SNL tenure with another strong reoccurring impression. Hartman's departure would be particularly noticeable during the 1994-1885 season. Luckily, however, he would go on to host during the 95-96 and 96-97 seasons. Unfortunately, those would end up being his final two appearances on the show.
LIVE DISCUSSION: Sterling K. Brown/James Bay -- The Doc, 23:04:11 03/10/18 Sat
I'll just say it, "This is Us" is probably the most overrated TV show on the air today...yes, even "Game of Thrones" fares slightly better. I'm personally keeping the bar low for this one, but Brown's an Emmy/GG winner, so he could surprise us.
We're on in 30, follow @TVTracksRadio if you wanna.
Predictions for this week's episode -- -, 12:58:54 03/14/18 Wed
As a refresher, when Bill Hader hosted in 2014, they did:
.A Hollywood Game Night sketch where he played Al Pacino
.Stefon on Update
.The puppetry class sketch
.Appearances by Kristen Wiig in the monologue and in the Game Night sketch as Kathie Lee Gifford
There really is no reason for Wiig to cameo again (in 2014, Hader was promoting "The Skeleton Twins" which co-starred Wiig).
In addition, Andy Samberg was on Kimmel last night so I doubt he'll be in NY this week to cameo on this episode. (Weirdly, Vanessa Bayer is on Kimmel tonight- wouldn't it have made more sense for her to cameo on THIS week's episode rather than last week's?)
So what do you think they will do? It would be a little unimaginative if they did Herb Welch again. I'm sure Stefon will appear on Update, however, as it's Bill's most popular character.
Are there any other Hader characters you'd like to see make a reappearance? I wouldn't mind seeing Greg the Alien again. There also hasn't been a Vinniy Vedecci sketch on the show since 2010.
Rating this season so far -- -, 16:07:38 03/15/18 Thu
So far this season has been kind of a letdown compared to last season. Here are the episodes I would rate as "good" overall:
.Chance the Rapper/Eminem (probably my favorite episode so far this season)
.Sam Rockwell/Halsey (This had some shaky moments but overall I thought it was an enjoyable episode)
.Sterling K Brown/James Bay (Brown really pushed this over the edge into being a good episode with his enthusiastic and committed performances).
These episodes I would describe as "OK, but probably should have been better, given the host"
.Larry David/Miley Cyrus
.Tiffany Haddish/Taylor Swift (Haddish was a really good host, but was given a lot of subpar material to work with)
.Will Ferrell/Chris Stapleton
Then there were a few episodes I would describe as "average, not really good or bad":
.Natalie Portman/Dua Lipa
.Charles Barkley/Migos (This was sort of starting to teeter towards the "bad" end, but had a few OK sketches)
And these episodes I thought were bad overall:
.Gal Gadot/Sam Smith (Other than the OJ sketch, Gadot was a pretty poor host)
.Kevin Hart/Foo Fighters
.Jessica Chastain/Troye Sivan
Will Forte and Vanessa Bayer both scheduled on Kimmel's show -- next Wednesday the 14th, 13:27:09 03/10/18 Sat
Forte I assume is promoting Last Man Earth coming back, but I don't know what Vanessa is promoting.
LIVE DISCUSSION: Charles Barkley/Migos -- The Doc, 22:55:42 03/03/18 Sat
Hockey is on, It's one of those "Stadium Series" games, so I'm assuming this is airing nationwide. Either way, expect a late start (unless they move the rest of the game to the NBC Sports network).
Also, I'm skipping the live tweet this week; cleaning up after a Nor'easter is more wearying than I remember. Will be back Next week.
Predictions for this week's episode -- -, 14:40:21 03/06/18 Tue
This week's episode, to me, is "the episode I'm getting through to get to the one this month that I care about".
Hard to get worked up about this ep because I have never seen "This is Us". Also, I just found out this week that Brown is in Black Panther as well, which I also haven't seen (Shocking, I know!)
So really, I have no frame of reference for this episode. I'm sure there will be a parody of either one or both of the above things, but they won't mean much to me. (Although Conan has been doing some funny parodies of "This Is Us"-style domestic dramas on his show recently).
Add to this a music guest I don't care about it and this episode's a big "meh" going into it for me. Hope it's good though!
Predictions for April -- -, 07:55:10 03/08/18 Thu
I was watching John Cena on Jimmy Fallon last night and he mentioned that "Blockers" is coming out April 6th and then he has Wrestlemania on Sunday, April 8th. So I think he's probably going to be too busy to host SNL the week of April 7th. I guess it's possible he could host the episode on April 14th.
I'm also hoping that maybe Janelle Monae will be the music guest for one of the episodes in April. She has a new album "Dirty Computer" coming out Apr. 27th.
She was great the first time she was a MG on the show and her new songs are funky...take a listen to her new single "Make Me Feel"...it's very Prince-inspired.
I bet she could do some great live performances if she was the MG on SNL.
We’re really heading towards the end of the season at this point so keep in mind any suggestions of what season we should do next. Chris Kattan enters the picture here. Despite having stayed on the show too long, I’m not as down on him as other people and I think he has a really strong start. More strange is Fred Wolf joining as a featured player. I’ve never understood these last few episodes of Wolf’s time on the show. On the Goodman episode, he doesn’t seem to be anywhere in the credits (at least not as a head writer). By Teri Hatcher’s episode, he’s a featured player. Three or so episodes into the next season, he just leaves. Anyone know the story of his weird exit from the show?
Predictions for this week's episode -- -, 11:37:38 02/27/18 Tue
Some kind of Olympics-themed cold open? I saw a lot of people online joking about how Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski looked like the Stanley Tucci and Elizabeth Banks characters from "The Hunger Games" when they were doing their commentaries at the Olympics. I guess Mikey or Beck could be Weir and Kate or Cecily probably could be Tara.
There will undoubtedly be something with Kenan as Barkley and Barkley being in the same sketch, or the monologue, or somewhere.
Otherwise, I don't really know what to expect. Barkley is always a game host who's willing to embrace whatever silly idea they throw at him. I know I'm gonna be zipping through the musical guest BIG TIME this week though.
I actually thought this sketch was pretty funny. As someone said here earlier this week, it's cool that Charles Barkley is open to doing bizarre sketches like this one. I'm hoping that they give Barkley some creative sketches this week. It would be nice to see a sketch where Barkley is paired up with Kyle Mooney. Maybe we'll get a fun Good Neighbor short this weekend.
"Twenty-five years ago, SPIN handed over the reins of the February issue over to the writers, cast, and crew of Saturday Night Live. The 1993 cast was a treasure trove of comedian greats with heavy-hitters like Chris Rock, David Spade, and Kevin Nealon in rotation. They were told they could interview anyone they wanted (anyone who agreed to be interviewed, at least), and the magazine highlighted stories from those who kept the show running every week, from the lighting specialists to the cleaning crew."
Anyone remember that there was a Wayne's World video game? -- any other SNL related video game? drawing a blank, 22:56:53 02/24/18 Sat
I don't know what made me suddenly think of this today, haven't thought about in like 20 years (had it for Sega Genesis, I was always pretty terrible at it) then outta nowhere it popped up in my brain today.
A gathering of knowledge/comments on Season 21 -- Episodes 12-14, 17:23:09 01/21/18 Sun
Hooo boy. Almost forgot about posting this until Herbert McHoover mentioned it. Let’s discuss the February shows from 1996:
As was mentioned earlier today, I remember the Danny Aiello ep being solid. Nothing amazing but better than expected for such a serious actor. Tom Arnold is one of more infamous episodes from this era. I guess he was one of the few this crew REALLY didn’t like working with. As for the Elle Macpherson one...I can’t really recall anything. What say you folks?

Thoughts? I'm surprised this show has been around this long now. I'm Guessing "Dunk History" is currently Comedy Central's third-longest running comedy series (that isn't"The Daily Show"). With first longest being "South Park" and second being "Tosh.O", which recently has been given a three-season renewal.

KINDLY CONTACT US AND BENEFIT FROM THE BEST RELIABLE SERVICES AS LONG TERM BUSINESS IS OUR PRIORITY
Figured someone from This is Us would host sooner or later since that seems to be NBC's biggest hit show lately. I never actually watched it but know Sterling K. Brown from the OJ Simpson show, he made a good Chris Darden anyway haha that's pretty much all I know about him.
As for Hader, hell yeah, lets just hope this time he can do a show without bringing back Wiig and Armisen.
Which premiered at Sundance- the movie was directed by Chris's daughter Bridey and features Chris, his real-life wife and two daughters playing a family in the movie.
I'm guessing it has comedic elements, IMDB says it is a "Comedy-Drama"
Judging by the list of writers' credits, they won for Season 42, which doesn't make a lot of sense (They were also competing against themselves for the Weekend Update Summer Edition episodes, which makes even less sense).
On today's Comedy Bang Bang episode, Scott Aukerman mentioned he was at these awards- turns out he was nominated for the Michael Bolton Valentine's Day special. He lost, naturally.
The Top 8 WTF Moments of Season 23 -- S.O.S.N.L. (Doc), 01:47:49 02/10/18 Sat

When would you say this current SNL era began? -- ,, 00:53:42 02/05/18 Mon
I was just reading an old alt.tv.snl thread from October 2004, where there's some interesting discussion on which years make up each SNL era.
It made me think about this current era and made me wonder when exactly this era began.
Would you say it began in the 12-13 season after Kristen Wiig left?
Or would you say the 13-14 season, when Hader, Sudeikis, and Armisen left and Lorne hired a whole bunch of new featured players to replace them (though that ended up not quite working out, as almost all those newbies got fired after that year)?
Or would you say the 14-15 season, where we got a new SNL logo, a revamped Weekend Update, and the additions of several stand-ups in the cast (Pete Davidson, Leslie Jones, Michael Che)?
When and why did it become the norm for SNL casts to have 13+ people? -- ,, 08:24:15 02/03/18 Sat
I'm amazed when I look back at the early eras of the show (70s and 80s) and see how small the casts were back then. Honestly, I prefer that; it made the cast feel more like a... I dunno, family? Just curious why that changed so much in recent decades. Especially this current era, where instead of feeling like a "family", the cast just feels like what it really is: a plethora of different people randomly thrown together.
Predictions for this week's show -- -, 11:36:29 01/30/18 Tue
We haven't seen Baldwin as Trump since December. They have gone 3 shows in a row without featuring him, but I figure since this is their last show before a month-long break we'll probably see him in this week's episode. The big news event of this week after all is going to be the State of the Union address tonight.
Some kind of a music video with Portman would seem obvious- but an actual sequel to it featuring TLI? Maybe playing off how she's older and a mom now, but still a hardcore thug. If there's anything this season has taught us, it's that they seem to not want to do the expected, but really, it would be weird if they didn't at least address the thing she's most famous for in regards to SNL in some way.
Maybe Leslie on WU talking about how she's going to be covering the Winter Olympics in Korea.
I'd like to have a moratorium on Times Up/Me Too type pieces, but that may be wishful thinking.
It's kind of hard to get excited about the show since recent episodes have been so disappointing.

This looks great. Love the recreation of scenes from "Animal House", "Caddyshack"; also the SNL stuff like the "Wolverines" sketch, and I think we see a glimpse of Gilda Radner as Candy Slice in there.
It looks like this will have Wain's typical level of meta commentary and humor running throughout it too.
LIVE DISCUSSION: Sam Rockwell/Halsey -- The Doc, 23:05:01 01/13/18 Sat
I'll be honest, it's the first show of January, I wouldn't blame 'ya if it was dead tonight...regardless, the Bad guy from "Charlie's Angels" (among other roles I'm too lazy to do an IMDB search on) is on in 30, and follow along @TVTracksRadio.
Predictions for this week's show -- -, 10:50:14 01/17/18 Wed
I saw a weird commercial for SNL last night during the Tonight Show that was hyping a "showdown" between Jessica Chastain and Kate McKinnon. Not sure what the significance of that would be; is there any reason why there would be a "fight" going on between them? It didn't really make a lot of sense.
I wonder if Baldwin will be back for the cold open this week with something making fun of Trump's physical that he had this week.
I'm predicting there will be at least one sketch, fake ad, or music video in some way addressing all the Me Too/Times Up stuff. since Chastain is a big advocate for all that.
Otherwise I don't really know what to predict from her as a host.
LIVE DISCUSSION: Kevin Hart/Foo Fighters -- The Doc, 23:03:00 12/16/17 Sat
Kevin Hart (who might want to consider making an "Elf on a Shelf" movie) takes the stage in 30; follow along if you wanna on @TVTracksRadio, and let's try to pace ourselves on the Egg Nog tonight.
Jan 27- Eric McCormack/ Fall Out Boy (I feel like there should be a TV person in here to break up all the movie people. Either McCormack or Sean Hayes would both be good choices now that Will & Grace is doing well, but McCormack got nominated for a Golden Globe. FOB has been the MG once before- I figured throw a more "rock" band in here after two pop performers.
If this does happen, how much you want to bet they use the "They liked me so much, they waited 16 years to ask me back" joke for McCormack
Feb 3 - This will be their fourth show in a row, so they need someone easy to make it not a difficult show to get through. Possibilities: Tom Hanks (he may be nominated for an Oscar by then), Jonah Hill (making him a five-timer), Alec Baldwin (would be a really lazy choice), Steve Martin (why not? He just did a cameo in Franco's episode).
Not sure who would be a good MG for this episode- thoughts?
Predictions for this week's show? -- -, 15:16:56 01/09/18 Tue
I am guessing the cold open will have something to do with the "Fire and Fury" book/Michael Wolff/Donald Trump as that's what's been dominating the news for the last couple of weeks.
Other than that, I don't really have any predictions. I think Rockwell should be a good host; I could see him being in the vein of a Michael Keaton, someone they can have playing a loose cannon or off the wall type guy in most sketches.
I also predict that Halsey will probably have G-Eazy with her to perform their duet "Him & I", which is her current hit (the two are also a couple in real life).
Is Vanessa the longest-running female cast member on SNL? -- -, 11:20:20 01/04/18 Thu
Even though Amy Poehler lasted 8 seasons on the show and Maya Rudolph 9, if you go by number of episodes I think Vanessa currently holds the record.
A question about the Christopher Walken episode -- from season 21:, 02:28:36 01/02/18 Tue
Just got around to watching this one to take notes for the podcast and was wondering if the live airing had a goodnight/credits segment. I just watched the version included in most torrents and while that seemed like the live airing, what I saw ended with a short segment of the band playing a small song as it hangs on a bumper photo...song ends. Episode ends. No credits. Nothing. Is that how it actually went down? Is this the only SNL to never have even a goodnight segment? In fact, while I’m rambling, does anyone know how this week actually played out, what with the crazy snowstorm and all?
Ranking the SNL Christmas Shows -- S.O.S.N.L. (Doc), 13:48:15 12/24/17 Sun
Not gonna lie, out of all the lists I've done, this is/was/will always be--from now until the end of time--the most difficult one I've put together. I can almost guarantee that there WILL be disagreements abound; but then again, what Christmas isn't complete without a little arguing? Your mileage may vary, but here it is...
Potential "Best Of" Specials -- Vax Novier, 22:28:41 11/13/17 Mon
A post below has inspired me to revive this topic. The idea is to come up with a "personal" best of season or any aspect.
Below are the listings for the videos I made a while back on YouTube of the first 5 seasons. They do not include any material in any previous VN compilations (i.e. No Recurring sketches, characters, talk show skits with JC, Kaufman bits, or Elliot, Steve, and Buck monologues)
Tomorrow, there is an "Inside the Actor's Studio" with Kristen Wiig -- airing on Bravo at 8 PM (ET), 15:12:06 12/20/17 Wed
Not sure how they managed to make a ITAS when she's only ever been in one good movie, but I guess there will be a lot of SNL clips in there as well.
Extremely half-assed thread where we try to predict the hosts for -- the rest of the season, 13:33:25 12/08/17 Fri
Lol, this is going to be kind of shapeless because we really don't even know the dates for sure for the rest of the season, but here are some preliminary guesses:
JANUARY- I think the first show coming back from the break will be hosted by Daisy Ridley. I'm just going by the last 2 seasons as a pattern, where the first shows were hosted by Adam Driver and Felicity Jones. Ridley's character seems to be the main focus of "The Last Jedi", much more so than John Boyega (going off of the trailers anyway). But Boyega is a possibility too.
Camila Cabello's solo album "Camila" comes out Jan. 12th, so she is a possibility as a MG in January.
Other possibilites for hosts- Taraji P Henson for "Proud Mary", Chris Hemsworth for "12 Strong", Liam Neeson for "The Commuter" (Hey, he hosted once before!)
FEBRUARY- There probably will be only one episode in February due to the Olympics coverage on NBC. The only real comedy I see coming out this month is "Game Night" with Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams.
MARCH- Hopefully we will see Zach Galifianakis host to promote the new season of "Baskets" and also his role in the movie "A Wrinkle in Time". Would make Zach a 4-timer if this happens.
Maybe Alicia Vikander for "Tomb Raider"? She kind of falls into the same category as Saoirse Ronan of critically acclaimed actresses who aren't necessarily known for doing comedy.
APRIL- I bet we will see John Cena host for a second time to promote "Blockers", which is a comedy distributed by Universal (NBC owns Universal). He seemed to have a good time hosting his first time, fit in well, and he's just a dude who enjoys doing comedy it seems like. A possible Dwayne Johnson-type multiple time host.
Maisie Williams for "The New Mutants" film- We've only ever had one Game of Thrones person host (Peter Dinklage). Maisie seems goofy enough when she's out of character and seems like she might be a game host.
MAY- Someone for "Avengers: Infinity War". We already had a thread about this, so we don't really need to rehash it again, but Scarlett Johansson or Chris Evans seem like likely possibilities.
Donald Glover for the Han Solo movie- Glover's a multiple awards winner and nominee at this point- Emmys for "Atlanta" and a recent Grammy nomination. This could even be a host/MG episode with him performing as Childish Gambino. SNL would be foolish if they didn't at least try to get him to host one of the shows in May.
Season finale- Melissa McCarthy for "Life of the Party".
The finale is usually hosted by someone who's an alum or has hosted before. This would allow for cameos by Wiig, etc. Heidi Gardner actually has a role in this movie (which was filmed in 2016 way before she got hired at SNL). Maya Rudolph's in this movie too so there's another cameo possibility as well.
LIVE DISCUSSION: James Franco/SZA -- The Doc, 23:01:40 12/09/17 Sat
"Business", b-r-d-t-f-k-l-m-g-h-r-k-w-t-f-n-y-l-k-p-q-w-q-r-t-d-f-p-l-m-k-q-k-w-q-q-q-q-q-q-q-q-q-q-q-q-s-t-f-j-r-q-m-t-s-d-t-q-m-p-r-f-t-d-p-d-p-m-h-r-k-t-b-t-f, "business."
Sorry, that sketch still makes me laugh 12 years later. On to more current events, the 2nd coming of Tommy Wiseau is 30 minutes from now; don't forget to follow along @TVTracksRadio.
Predictions for this week's show -- -, 10:19:36 12/15/17 Fri
I really don't know what to predict for this week's show as far as cameos. Jack Black was just on Conan's show last night, and Dwayne Johnson was on Jimmy Kimmel and James Corden earlier in the week. So all of Kevin's costars from "Jumanji" appear to be in LA.
Someone else pointed out that Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon being on Kimmel doesn't bode well for them making a cameo on this show either.
I see that Tom Hanks is scheduled on the Stephen Colbert show tonight. I can't really think of any connection he has to Kevin Hart though, or reason why he would be appearing on SNL other than it being the Christmas show and they usually try to have guest appearances by people.
Remember David Wain's movie about the National Lampoon/SNL? I found out -- some new info, 21:59:54 10/25/17 Wed
A couple of Instagram posts I found have revealed that even though filming began on this movie back in April 2016, there were some reshoots that took place this summer and the movie appears to be in post production right now.
Cast Chronology: Bobby Moynihan -- S.O.S.N.L. (Doc), 10:53:25 12/10/17 Sun
Now it's time to take a look at how Bobby evolved on the show over his 9 years, as well as why (with all due respect to Vanessa) He was the show's Secret Weapon...
Cast Chronology: Vanessa Bayer -- S.O.S.N.L. (Doc), 17:31:37 12/08/17 Fri
Gonna try something a little different this week; this isn't so much a "Best of" list as it is more of an "Evolution" of a cast member over time--particularly those who just RECENTLY left. Expect more of these if/when the cast ever thins themselves out a little...

24- "At Home With Amy Sedaris" premieres on TruTV- I guess this is like a Martha Stewart-type show? But probably a parody of one. Produced by Sedaris, Paul Dinello, and Vernon Chatman (Wonder Showzen). Guest stars on this show will include Scott Adsit, Rachel Dratch, Jane Krakowski, Sasheer Zamata, among others)
26- Drop the Mic premieres on TBS (This is a spinoff of the "Rap Battle" segments on James Corden's show. Produced by Jensen Karp who's a pretty funny guy and the head writer on this is Eliza Skinner who is also a funny comedian I've heard on Comedy Bang Bang before. Hosted by Method Man and Hailey Baldwin
Predictions for this week's episode -- -, 11:02:36 12/06/17 Wed
Might be a little bit light on cameos in this episode.
We can rule out a Kristen Wiig cameo- She is scheduled on the James Corden show tonight, which means she's in LA.
Therefore I doubt they'd do the Vogelchecks (unless they wrote out the mother character, which would be weird).
Still probably possible we will see Seth Rogen make a cameo, or Tommy Wiseau in Franco's monologue.
A gathering of knowledge and comments on season 21 -- Episodes 9-11, 15:48:01 11/30/17 Thu
So the podcast (That Week In SNL, of course) has been rolling right along and as always, we're looking for any trivia or comments you folks might have to input on the upcoming episodes.
I've yet to watch the Madeline Kahn episode but looking at the rundown, it seems remarkably fallow. I know she apparently wasn't the first choice to host but considering they knew she would be there ahead of time (she's in the "next week" bumper from the David Alan Grier ep), it's strange to see the show falter in ideas for her. Or maybe not. Maybe the episode is great. I guess we'll see.
Predictions for this week's show -- -, 10:28:41 11/28/17 Tue
With Saoirse Ronan being the host and U2 being the musical guest, I expect Ronan's monologue will have something to do with her being Irish and the MG being Irish as well.
Maybe something similar to what they did with Gabriel Byrne's monologue in his show from 1995? (Cue Colin Quinn as a dancing potato!)
This trailer has pretty much dominated the Internet today. So, I'm sure we can assume that the promotion for this movie will be larger than any other comic book movie.
So, this leaves us thinking....who will promote "Infinity War" on SNL the first Saturday in May of next year?
Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Scarlett Johansson have all hosted to promote their respected films from Marvel Studios. In addition, Paul Rudd and Brie Larson have hosted prior to their castings of Ant-Man and Captain Marvel, respectively. Josh Brolin, who plays the villain of the movie, has also hosted in October 2008 and April 2012.
Also, Robert Downey Jr hosted in November 1997 and he was even a former castmember. This was WAY before he was cast as Iron-Man.
So, this leaves the following primary "Infinity War" castmembers who would be first-time hosts if they ended up hosting on May 5, 2018:
Thoughts? Let's face it. Someone from "Avengers: Infinity War" is going to host that weekend. Who could you see end up hosting SNL to promote the movie?
Guesses for December shows -- -, 12:05:23 11/09/17 Thu
I'm going to take a wild swing at this and most likely be wrong, but here are my guesses for the December shows:
Dec 2- James Franco ("The Disaster Artist")/Maroon 5
Dec 9- Kevin Hart ("Jumanji")/Sia
Dec 16- Anna Kendrick ("Pitch Perfect 3")/U2
Sia has a Christmas album coming out, and U2 for the actual Christmas show seems likely. As an alternative to Kevin Hart, they could get Jack Black, but Hart has hosted more frequently in recent years. The Rock just hosted last season so I doubt he will host again.
December Shows Announced! -- According to SNL's Facebook page, 16:43:42 11/27/17 Mon
December 2-- Saoirse Ronan / U2
December 9-- James Franco / SZA
December 16-- Kevin Hart / Foo Fighters
Thoughts? I don't think any of us predicted Kevin Hart for the Christmas show. At least it will be good to see the Foo Fighters back on SNL. Also, I do think we all had the idea that James Franco would host this season. I wonder if we'll get a cameo from Seth Rogen on the 9th. I also wonder if Dwayne Johnson and Jack Black will cameo when Kevin Hart hosts on December 16.
Thoughts? Hopefully, these shows will be good enough to close out 2017 on a high note.
Predictions for This Year's Christmas Show -- Which airs on December 16, 07:38:49 11/26/17 Sun
Considering that we are very likely to find out the remaining December hosts sometime this week, I figured we could predict the final host and musical guest of 2017.
In my opinion, we haven't had a great Cristmas episode since probably Martin Short / Paul McCartney back in December 2012. All of the other shows past then were, in my opinion, not that great.
2013- Jimmy Fallon /Justin Timberlake
2014- Amy Adams / One Direction
2015- Tina Fey & Amy Poehler / Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band (a disappointing show in my opinion)
2016- Casey Affleck/ Chance the Rapper
Here's dome hosts I think could be potential Christmas show hosts this year
* Hugh Jackman (to promote "The Greatest Showman)- He hasn't hosted since December 2001 and he was a great host. However, if Zac Efron, who also stars in the movie, does end up hosting on December 9, then Jackman is out of the running.
* Someone from Downsizing-- The movie stars Matt Damon (who hasn't hosted since Fall 2002 and would be nice to see host again). The movie also stars Jason Sudeikis (would be cool to see him finally host), Neil Patrick Harris (who hasn't hosted since January 2009 and is due to host again at some point), Christoph Watlz (hasn't hosted since February 2012) and Kristen Wiig (Most likely the the one who's most likely to host again at some point soon). It would be cool to see Neil Patrick Harris host again. I wonder why he hasn't hosted for a second time yet.
Other host possibilities for the Christmas show include:
Tom Hanks-- to promote "The Post"
Emma Stone-- is getting some Awards Season buzz for "Battle of the Sexes"
Rebel Wilson-- to promote "Pitch Perfect 3".
Also, someone on the SNL Reddit is predicting that Barack Obama could host on December 16. Though, I feel that is a bit of a stretch. They would have to lone-up a big-time musical guest if a former President were to host. Too bad U2 is already set to serve as musical guest on December 2.
Also, here are some predictions for musical guests as well:
Sia-- to promote her upcoming Christmas album and is probably the front-runner to serve as musical guest right now.
T.1.-- who could be promoting his album "The Dime Trap", which is being released on December 9.
Also, and even though he does not have an album coming out right now, I could see Paul McCartney performing on SNL on December 16. They usually try to get him to be on SNL around this time of the year anyway. So, it could happen again.
Also, here's a list from Wikipedia of different albums coming out next month:
Rerun edit thread -- -, 09:14:39 11/26/17 Sun
We lost some threads, but this can be a general place to comment on any edits we notice in the reruns.
In last night's rerun of the Gal Gadot episode, the Safelite commercial was replaced with "The Last Fry", Beck & Kyle's short film.
Also, in the Wonder Woman sketch, Gal's line "Place your head on my tits" was censored. Which leads me to wonder..why? It wasn't an ad-lib, it was obviously written that way into the script. It's Ok to say "tits" on the live show but not in a rerun at 11:30?
