A gathering of knowledge/comments on Season 21 -- Episodes 12-14, 17:23:09 01/21/18 Sun
Hooo boy. Almost forgot about posting this until Herbert McHoover mentioned it. Let’s discuss the February shows from 1996:
As was mentioned earlier today, I remember the Danny Aiello ep being solid. Nothing amazing but better than expected for such a serious actor. Tom Arnold is one of more infamous episodes from this era. I guess he was one of the few this crew REALLY didn’t like working with. As for the Elle Macpherson one...I can’t really recall anything. What say you folks?
LIVE DISCUSSION: Sam Rockwell/Halsey -- The Doc, 23:05:01 01/13/18 Sat
I'll be honest, it's the first show of January, I wouldn't blame 'ya if it was dead tonight...regardless, the Bad guy from "Charlie's Angels" (among other roles I'm too lazy to do an IMDB search on) is on in 30, and follow along @TVTracksRadio.

Predictions for this week's show -- -, 10:50:14 01/17/18 Wed
I saw a weird commercial for SNL last night during the Tonight Show that was hyping a "showdown" between Jessica Chastain and Kate McKinnon. Not sure what the significance of that would be; is there any reason why there would be a "fight" going on between them? It didn't really make a lot of sense.
I wonder if Baldwin will be back for the cold open this week with something making fun of Trump's physical that he had this week.
I'm predicting there will be at least one sketch, fake ad, or music video in some way addressing all the Me Too/Times Up stuff. since Chastain is a big advocate for all that.
Otherwise I don't really know what to predict from her as a host.
LIVE DISCUSSION: Kevin Hart/Foo Fighters -- The Doc, 23:03:00 12/16/17 Sat
Kevin Hart (who might want to consider making an "Elf on a Shelf" movie) takes the stage in 30; follow along if you wanna on @TVTracksRadio, and let's try to pace ourselves on the Egg Nog tonight.
Jan 27- Eric McCormack/ Fall Out Boy (I feel like there should be a TV person in here to break up all the movie people. Either McCormack or Sean Hayes would both be good choices now that Will & Grace is doing well, but McCormack got nominated for a Golden Globe. FOB has been the MG once before- I figured throw a more "rock" band in here after two pop performers.
If this does happen, how much you want to bet they use the "They liked me so much, they waited 16 years to ask me back" joke for McCormack
Feb 3 - This will be their fourth show in a row, so they need someone easy to make it not a difficult show to get through. Possibilities: Tom Hanks (he may be nominated for an Oscar by then), Jonah Hill (making him a five-timer), Alec Baldwin (would be a really lazy choice), Steve Martin (why not? He just did a cameo in Franco's episode).
Not sure who would be a good MG for this episode- thoughts?
Predictions for this week's show? -- -, 15:16:56 01/09/18 Tue
I am guessing the cold open will have something to do with the "Fire and Fury" book/Michael Wolff/Donald Trump as that's what's been dominating the news for the last couple of weeks.
Other than that, I don't really have any predictions. I think Rockwell should be a good host; I could see him being in the vein of a Michael Keaton, someone they can have playing a loose cannon or off the wall type guy in most sketches.
I also predict that Halsey will probably have G-Eazy with her to perform their duet "Him & I", which is her current hit (the two are also a couple in real life).
Is Vanessa the longest-running female cast member on SNL? -- -, 11:20:20 01/04/18 Thu
Even though Amy Poehler lasted 8 seasons on the show and Maya Rudolph 9, if you go by number of episodes I think Vanessa currently holds the record.
A question about the Christopher Walken episode -- from season 21:, 02:28:36 01/02/18 Tue
Just got around to watching this one to take notes for the podcast and was wondering if the live airing had a goodnight/credits segment. I just watched the version included in most torrents and while that seemed like the live airing, what I saw ended with a short segment of the band playing a small song as it hangs on a bumper photo...song ends. Episode ends. No credits. Nothing. Is that how it actually went down? Is this the only SNL to never have even a goodnight segment? In fact, while I’m rambling, does anyone know how this week actually played out, what with the crazy snowstorm and all?
Ranking the SNL Christmas Shows -- S.O.S.N.L. (Doc), 13:48:15 12/24/17 Sun
Not gonna lie, out of all the lists I've done, this is/was/will always be--from now until the end of time--the most difficult one I've put together. I can almost guarantee that there WILL be disagreements abound; but then again, what Christmas isn't complete without a little arguing? Your mileage may vary, but here it is...
Potential "Best Of" Specials -- Vax Novier, 22:28:41 11/13/17 Mon
A post below has inspired me to revive this topic. The idea is to come up with a "personal" best of season or any aspect.
Below are the listings for the videos I made a while back on YouTube of the first 5 seasons. They do not include any material in any previous VN compilations (i.e. No Recurring sketches, characters, talk show skits with JC, Kaufman bits, or Elliot, Steve, and Buck monologues)
This looks great. Love the recreation of scenes from "Animal House", "Caddyshack"; also the SNL stuff like the "Wolverines" sketch, and I think we see a glimpse of Gilda Radner as Candy Slice in there.
It looks like this will have Wain's typical level of meta commentary and humor running throughout it too.
Tomorrow, there is an "Inside the Actor's Studio" with Kristen Wiig -- airing on Bravo at 8 PM (ET), 15:12:06 12/20/17 Wed
Not sure how they managed to make a ITAS when she's only ever been in one good movie, but I guess there will be a lot of SNL clips in there as well.
Extremely half-assed thread where we try to predict the hosts for -- the rest of the season, 13:33:25 12/08/17 Fri
Lol, this is going to be kind of shapeless because we really don't even know the dates for sure for the rest of the season, but here are some preliminary guesses:
JANUARY- I think the first show coming back from the break will be hosted by Daisy Ridley. I'm just going by the last 2 seasons as a pattern, where the first shows were hosted by Adam Driver and Felicity Jones. Ridley's character seems to be the main focus of "The Last Jedi", much more so than John Boyega (going off of the trailers anyway). But Boyega is a possibility too.
Camila Cabello's solo album "Camila" comes out Jan. 12th, so she is a possibility as a MG in January.
Other possibilites for hosts- Taraji P Henson for "Proud Mary", Chris Hemsworth for "12 Strong", Liam Neeson for "The Commuter" (Hey, he hosted once before!)
FEBRUARY- There probably will be only one episode in February due to the Olympics coverage on NBC. The only real comedy I see coming out this month is "Game Night" with Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams.
MARCH- Hopefully we will see Zach Galifianakis host to promote the new season of "Baskets" and also his role in the movie "A Wrinkle in Time". Would make Zach a 4-timer if this happens.
Maybe Alicia Vikander for "Tomb Raider"? She kind of falls into the same category as Saoirse Ronan of critically acclaimed actresses who aren't necessarily known for doing comedy.
APRIL- I bet we will see John Cena host for a second time to promote "Blockers", which is a comedy distributed by Universal (NBC owns Universal). He seemed to have a good time hosting his first time, fit in well, and he's just a dude who enjoys doing comedy it seems like. A possible Dwayne Johnson-type multiple time host.
Maisie Williams for "The New Mutants" film- We've only ever had one Game of Thrones person host (Peter Dinklage). Maisie seems goofy enough when she's out of character and seems like she might be a game host.
MAY- Someone for "Avengers: Infinity War". We already had a thread about this, so we don't really need to rehash it again, but Scarlett Johansson or Chris Evans seem like likely possibilities.
Donald Glover for the Han Solo movie- Glover's a multiple awards winner and nominee at this point- Emmys for "Atlanta" and a recent Grammy nomination. This could even be a host/MG episode with him performing as Childish Gambino. SNL would be foolish if they didn't at least try to get him to host one of the shows in May.
Season finale- Melissa McCarthy for "Life of the Party".
The finale is usually hosted by someone who's an alum or has hosted before. This would allow for cameos by Wiig, etc. Heidi Gardner actually has a role in this movie (which was filmed in 2016 way before she got hired at SNL). Maya Rudolph's in this movie too so there's another cameo possibility as well.
LIVE DISCUSSION: James Franco/SZA -- The Doc, 23:01:40 12/09/17 Sat
"Business", b-r-d-t-f-k-l-m-g-h-r-k-w-t-f-n-y-l-k-p-q-w-q-r-t-d-f-p-l-m-k-q-k-w-q-q-q-q-q-q-q-q-q-q-q-q-s-t-f-j-r-q-m-t-s-d-t-q-m-p-r-f-t-d-p-d-p-m-h-r-k-t-b-t-f, "business."
Sorry, that sketch still makes me laugh 12 years later. On to more current events, the 2nd coming of Tommy Wiseau is 30 minutes from now; don't forget to follow along @TVTracksRadio.
Predictions for this week's show -- -, 10:19:36 12/15/17 Fri
I really don't know what to predict for this week's show as far as cameos. Jack Black was just on Conan's show last night, and Dwayne Johnson was on Jimmy Kimmel and James Corden earlier in the week. So all of Kevin's costars from "Jumanji" appear to be in LA.
Someone else pointed out that Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon being on Kimmel doesn't bode well for them making a cameo on this show either.
I see that Tom Hanks is scheduled on the Stephen Colbert show tonight. I can't really think of any connection he has to Kevin Hart though, or reason why he would be appearing on SNL other than it being the Christmas show and they usually try to have guest appearances by people.
Remember David Wain's movie about the National Lampoon/SNL? I found out -- some new info, 21:59:54 10/25/17 Wed
A couple of Instagram posts I found have revealed that even though filming began on this movie back in April 2016, there were some reshoots that took place this summer and the movie appears to be in post production right now.
Cast Chronology: Bobby Moynihan -- S.O.S.N.L. (Doc), 10:53:25 12/10/17 Sun
Now it's time to take a look at how Bobby evolved on the show over his 9 years, as well as why (with all due respect to Vanessa) He was the show's Secret Weapon...
Cast Chronology: Vanessa Bayer -- S.O.S.N.L. (Doc), 17:31:37 12/08/17 Fri
Gonna try something a little different this week; this isn't so much a "Best of" list as it is more of an "Evolution" of a cast member over time--particularly those who just RECENTLY left. Expect more of these if/when the cast ever thins themselves out a little...
Air Dates for Second Half of Season 43 -- Casey Killingsworth, 17:13:02 12/08/17 Fri
Jamie Klein passed these along to me days ago via Facebook Messager and I've been meaning to post them here but kept forgetting. Anyway, I thought now might be a good time to do so since people are already trying to guess who the hosts/MGs will be so in case you want to "shape" your guesses, here you go...

24- "At Home With Amy Sedaris" premieres on TruTV- I guess this is like a Martha Stewart-type show? But probably a parody of one. Produced by Sedaris, Paul Dinello, and Vernon Chatman (Wonder Showzen). Guest stars on this show will include Scott Adsit, Rachel Dratch, Jane Krakowski, Sasheer Zamata, among others)
26- Drop the Mic premieres on TBS (This is a spinoff of the "Rap Battle" segments on James Corden's show. Produced by Jensen Karp who's a pretty funny guy and the head writer on this is Eliza Skinner who is also a funny comedian I've heard on Comedy Bang Bang before. Hosted by Method Man and Hailey Baldwin
Predictions for this week's episode -- -, 11:02:36 12/06/17 Wed
Might be a little bit light on cameos in this episode.
We can rule out a Kristen Wiig cameo- She is scheduled on the James Corden show tonight, which means she's in LA.
Therefore I doubt they'd do the Vogelchecks (unless they wrote out the mother character, which would be weird).
Still probably possible we will see Seth Rogen make a cameo, or Tommy Wiseau in Franco's monologue.
A gathering of knowledge and comments on season 21 -- Episodes 9-11, 15:48:01 11/30/17 Thu
So the podcast (That Week In SNL, of course) has been rolling right along and as always, we're looking for any trivia or comments you folks might have to input on the upcoming episodes.
I've yet to watch the Madeline Kahn episode but looking at the rundown, it seems remarkably fallow. I know she apparently wasn't the first choice to host but considering they knew she would be there ahead of time (she's in the "next week" bumper from the David Alan Grier ep), it's strange to see the show falter in ideas for her. Or maybe not. Maybe the episode is great. I guess we'll see.
Predictions for this week's show -- -, 10:28:41 11/28/17 Tue
With Saoirse Ronan being the host and U2 being the musical guest, I expect Ronan's monologue will have something to do with her being Irish and the MG being Irish as well.
Maybe something similar to what they did with Gabriel Byrne's monologue in his show from 1995? (Cue Colin Quinn as a dancing potato!)
This trailer has pretty much dominated the Internet today. So, I'm sure we can assume that the promotion for this movie will be larger than any other comic book movie.
So, this leaves us thinking....who will promote "Infinity War" on SNL the first Saturday in May of next year?
Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Scarlett Johansson have all hosted to promote their respected films from Marvel Studios. In addition, Paul Rudd and Brie Larson have hosted prior to their castings of Ant-Man and Captain Marvel, respectively. Josh Brolin, who plays the villain of the movie, has also hosted in October 2008 and April 2012.
Also, Robert Downey Jr hosted in November 1997 and he was even a former castmember. This was WAY before he was cast as Iron-Man.
So, this leaves the following primary "Infinity War" castmembers who would be first-time hosts if they ended up hosting on May 5, 2018:
Thoughts? Let's face it. Someone from "Avengers: Infinity War" is going to host that weekend. Who could you see end up hosting SNL to promote the movie?
Guesses for December shows -- -, 12:05:23 11/09/17 Thu
I'm going to take a wild swing at this and most likely be wrong, but here are my guesses for the December shows:
Dec 2- James Franco ("The Disaster Artist")/Maroon 5
Dec 9- Kevin Hart ("Jumanji")/Sia
Dec 16- Anna Kendrick ("Pitch Perfect 3")/U2
Sia has a Christmas album coming out, and U2 for the actual Christmas show seems likely. As an alternative to Kevin Hart, they could get Jack Black, but Hart has hosted more frequently in recent years. The Rock just hosted last season so I doubt he will host again.
December Shows Announced! -- According to SNL's Facebook page, 16:43:42 11/27/17 Mon
December 2-- Saoirse Ronan / U2
December 9-- James Franco / SZA
December 16-- Kevin Hart / Foo Fighters
Thoughts? I don't think any of us predicted Kevin Hart for the Christmas show. At least it will be good to see the Foo Fighters back on SNL. Also, I do think we all had the idea that James Franco would host this season. I wonder if we'll get a cameo from Seth Rogen on the 9th. I also wonder if Dwayne Johnson and Jack Black will cameo when Kevin Hart hosts on December 16.
Thoughts? Hopefully, these shows will be good enough to close out 2017 on a high note.
Predictions for This Year's Christmas Show -- Which airs on December 16, 07:38:49 11/26/17 Sun
Considering that we are very likely to find out the remaining December hosts sometime this week, I figured we could predict the final host and musical guest of 2017.
In my opinion, we haven't had a great Cristmas episode since probably Martin Short / Paul McCartney back in December 2012. All of the other shows past then were, in my opinion, not that great.
2013- Jimmy Fallon /Justin Timberlake
2014- Amy Adams / One Direction
2015- Tina Fey & Amy Poehler / Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band (a disappointing show in my opinion)
2016- Casey Affleck/ Chance the Rapper
Here's dome hosts I think could be potential Christmas show hosts this year
* Hugh Jackman (to promote "The Greatest Showman)- He hasn't hosted since December 2001 and he was a great host. However, if Zac Efron, who also stars in the movie, does end up hosting on December 9, then Jackman is out of the running.
* Someone from Downsizing-- The movie stars Matt Damon (who hasn't hosted since Fall 2002 and would be nice to see host again). The movie also stars Jason Sudeikis (would be cool to see him finally host), Neil Patrick Harris (who hasn't hosted since January 2009 and is due to host again at some point), Christoph Watlz (hasn't hosted since February 2012) and Kristen Wiig (Most likely the the one who's most likely to host again at some point soon). It would be cool to see Neil Patrick Harris host again. I wonder why he hasn't hosted for a second time yet.
Other host possibilities for the Christmas show include:
Tom Hanks-- to promote "The Post"
Emma Stone-- is getting some Awards Season buzz for "Battle of the Sexes"
Rebel Wilson-- to promote "Pitch Perfect 3".
Also, someone on the SNL Reddit is predicting that Barack Obama could host on December 16. Though, I feel that is a bit of a stretch. They would have to lone-up a big-time musical guest if a former President were to host. Too bad U2 is already set to serve as musical guest on December 2.
Also, here are some predictions for musical guests as well:
Sia-- to promote her upcoming Christmas album and is probably the front-runner to serve as musical guest right now.
T.1.-- who could be promoting his album "The Dime Trap", which is being released on December 9.
Also, and even though he does not have an album coming out right now, I could see Paul McCartney performing on SNL on December 16. They usually try to get him to be on SNL around this time of the year anyway. So, it could happen again.
Also, here's a list from Wikipedia of different albums coming out next month:
Rerun edit thread -- -, 09:14:39 11/26/17 Sun
We lost some threads, but this can be a general place to comment on any edits we notice in the reruns.
In last night's rerun of the Gal Gadot episode, the Safelite commercial was replaced with "The Last Fry", Beck & Kyle's short film.
Also, in the Wonder Woman sketch, Gal's line "Place your head on my tits" was censored. Which leads me to wonder..why? It wasn't an ad-lib, it was obviously written that way into the script. It's Ok to say "tits" on the live show but not in a rerun at 11:30?
