] Date Posted: Mon, Nov 10 2003, 18:57:31 Timeshare Company: Emperor Resorts International HOW IT ALL BEGAN 1. I received a call via mobile phone; invited to attend the promised 'one-hour' travel exhibition with fabulous gifts. I was told that my contact was taken from one of the travel exhibition held at Suntec City. My wife and I decided to attend the exhibition when coincidently at that time, we were planning for our honeymoon trip. 2. My wife and I attended the 7 pm session; we decided to leave after an hour but was held back by the marketing personnel. He kept ignoring us when we said we had to leave to attend to something later in the evening. 3. There were sweet talks throughout the presentation; eg. Saying how wonderful the club services are - 5-star accomodation which is better than the regular travel agencies, insisting that they are not time-share company and that they actually promote 'travel resorts'property investment; where members actually own the resort properties, etc. 4. All this while, the marketing personnel would avoid the 'price' queries. 5. Towards later in the night (10pm or so) when tireness began to catch up with us, the marketing personnel would start to ask us how much were we expecting to pay for the club package. Then they would start to counter offer by putting up a show in front of us by getting the senior manegement staffs to talk to us; giving us exclusive offer only for the night, etc. This persuasion can go on for hours, as for my case, it ended around 1.30am. 6. By taking advantage of our tireness, they start to apply their 'pressure' marketing tactics until we give in by paying up $1,000 deposit and sign the agreement. The agreement would include agreement to pay a certain instalment sums for a certain period (in my case, it was $50 for 12 months and $100 for another 12 months). A letter was also attached entitlling us to pay another 2 years of instalment for the outstanding sum. 7. My wife and I felt very uneasy after signing the agreement. We were told we can do a search on the ROC if we have doubt of the organisation establishment. We were told we can pull out from the Contract 'only' if we find the Company does not have a 'proper establishment/registration'. By then, it was already too late. 8. I was then required to come back a few days later to pay up the another 6,500.00 in order to activate the club membership. I was required to pay the maintenance fee in Australian Dollars (approximately A$420). AFTERMATH 1. When we began to really look through the brochures, we find many of the services are actually not as what they promised (eg. The club is actually offering timeshare services, standard of accomodation offered are not as luxurious as what marketed; mostly 3 stars and below, etc.) 2. As for the honeymoon, we have decided to take up the regular travel agencies package which were actually cheaper and of better value. 3. Up to date I have not used any of their services; paying up the monthly instalments for nothing. 4. A few months ago, I was called up again by one of their marketing personnel saying that they would like to conduct a survey for member feedback. I was required to attend with my wife for the discussion. However, I attended the discussion on my own thinking that this time they were sincere in enhancing/providing better services for their customers. 5. During the discussion, I was told they are trying to distance their establishment from RCI due to RCI's poor service and that they were offerring a new package for their existing members. I was told the new package had got nothing to do with RCI and members could have a wider choice of holiday destinations. However, the catch was that existing members would have to pay an additional sum of $4,000 to upgrade their present membership. Having told this, I quickly pull back myself from the discussion knowing that this would be another scam. I left the premises almost immediately. Having found this webpage, i decided to seek legal action against the organisation (voiding the Contract and get my refund; i've paid close to $9,000). Feel free to give me some feedback on my case. Date Posted: Mon, Nov 10 2003, 22:57:01 Beware of the second group of vultures who offer to upgrade your membership. As you have decided not to continue with your membership do make a clean break. Get a lawyer to write a letter of demand for refund and void the 'contract' of membership. Collectively, with other 'victims' the demand will carry more clout. and class actions could be taken against them. Dont have anything more to do with the scammers, dont answer their calls, dont believe what they have to say, dont accept their promises. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
