Task 10

I have read lots of questions from the “Relationships and Dating” section. I was struck by the kinds of questions these kids would make; I don’t want to sound old-fashioned or narrow-minded but these kids are quite too young to be worrying about such problems. There was one question where a 13-year-old girl was asking for advice on whether or not sleeping with her boyfriend and to what point she should continue saying “no” to him. Another girl, a 16-year-old one, was feeling a bit lost because she had a one-night stand with a 20-year-old guy (it was her first time) but she was quite upset because he never called her back and she’s afraid to be pregnant.

I believe that such questionings reflect the kind of society we are living in. The one that overestimates feelings and actions and praises the inversion of values. Teenagers are expected to bahave in a particular way but it is obvious (at least to me) that they lack maturity and self-assurance to carry on.
