hi all.
can anyone tell me if the bty site is still down as i cant get on it.i can only find this message board forum.
the link from the regimental site also wont let me on.

Missing member from nominal role -- Sue Lane (x-wife) of Paul, 20:17:04 02/28/09 Sat [1]

Found site and had amazing trip down memory lane. But although divorced after 27 years, I was sad to see that Pauls name was not on the nominal role. We left Lippstadt in 1979 after spending many happy years with 23 Battery. I remember well Stan, Adrian and John Pask baby sitting for our daughter Sarah who was born in 1972 followed by Christopher in 1975. I remember also many fun nights when
Reg would take to the dance floor and do a fantastic jive!!
Was sad to read of Jocks passing I remember him as a smashing chap.

Hi everyone

I hope those who were able to attend Topper's place had a great time, from the messages I have read it would appear you all had a fantastic evening.

For those of you not on "Facebook" my 53rd Birthday is on Saturday 7 February, I would have shared this with my twin brother Derek, however unfortunately he passed away in 2002, which was rather selfish of him, not to mention bloody inconvenient, as now my bithdays will always be tinged with sadness.

Couple this fact with my father passing away on Christmas day 1996 my opportunity for a tear free celebrations on these occasions are somewhat limited. This Saturday I shall be getting rat arsed, no change there then. Take care all.

Hard to know what to say to that mate! Sorry that you are going to have a tearful time today, but Happy Birthday anyway. Hope you, as I do, take comfort from the fact that, although we have lost loved ones, we still have our wider Army family there to support us if ever we need them.

Received loads of photo's from Chubby Leyland and malcolm Broughton...fantastic, thanks lads. They look great. There were actually 4 generations of the 23Bty family there. The really old ones, like dicky, my mum, chubby, Alfie etc, then the slightly wrinkled but still past it ones like Paul, Stan, Scouse Jones, Tomo. Then the young fit and healthy ones, like...well me. And last but not least the kids...Stans kids, Pauls litttle devils and of course Spikes urchin etc...what a great memory! Look forward to the next

Yes I was in 23 Bty for around 4 years and your name rings a bell were you a mate of Spine Greening and did you have Blonde hair and fancy yourself at table football I was a T/F partner of Paddy McNair and played you and Spine a few times.If it helps your memory I was in Nobby Halls gun sub
as a layer and limber gunner.

I was wondering if any one had any info on a chap called Clem. He was a medic so as such was in HQ battery When I was in HQ in the early 70s he was quite a character and was well liked by all and i would like to find out what became of him I like most people who met him was happy to be in his company. He seemed timeless and i think he may have served at the end of the last war in 1945!! so he was I think about retiring age when we were both in HQ Battery.

Well Ladies and Gentlemen, just a short note to thank you all for coming to the reunion, we had a great time. It was especially good to see such a significant age spread. Think the bratwurst went down well, and for those that remember so did the bacon....considerably later on!

Yes mate, it's 'Somewhere between myth mystery and madness by Richard Parr'. Its on Dorrancepublishing.com. Put the title in the search box and it will find it for you. Its on restricted sale for a couple of months then its on amazon.

It certainly is not a read for ladies or children.

Great to see you at the do, it was good fun and as always a pleasure to see everyone again.

Myself and Sue didn't know Lynn that well, met her twice I think. She was a lovely women, always bubbly and jolly.

The memories came flooding back I was only in the BTY for circ 4 years but it was a great time and i recall it so well.I often think about the guys I knew and as i get older i would like to maybe be in touch again with those who knew me. The pub is called The Pipe and Gannex, Prescot, Merseyside if you google it, it gives loads of detail,including routes etc (no mention of the dwarf though...sorry Tomo). Look forward to seeing those that can make it.

hope you remember me (swifty) have some great memories of our time together in lippstadt and have beeb rying for ages to track you and all the other lads (badger, slasher, cav, stan, saf, woody, ian pople and all the rest) down.

its with great shock and sadness that i read the sad news of jocks passing, he was one of the first guys i worked with when i first arrived in the bty showed me the ropes so to speak .

Just logged on and read about Jock Sneddon Its hard to believe that he has gone, he was a really good bloke I know people say that when they are gone but he really was a good bloke I know he will be sorely missed by all my thoughts are with his family.

Just thought I'd write about today as I attended the Commemoration ceremony at St Pauls Cathedral for OP Banner.
It was attended by many ex service personnel and members who are still serving today.
I was very proud to be there today, and although it was to commemorate the end of the troubles in Northern Ireland it gave me a chance to remember all those members of 23 bty and the Regiment who are no longer with us, to many to name.
To which I would like to add that none of us are getting any younger, so lets make a conservative effort to attend as many reunions as possible in the future especially after all the effort that is put in by whoever organises them.
Met up with a lad I joined with back in '83 last time I saw him was in '85 in Ireland twenty three years ago, just goes to show that time waits for no one.
So come on lets get the next reunion up and running.

For those of you who don't know what this is all about.
It's about mine and Paul Airey's daughter Emma. She was born in Lippstadt in 1977 after her sister Lisa, who was born 1975, so a lot of you will remember them as little girls and will have seen them as young women at the reunions. Emma has recently been told that she has breast cancer which came out of the blue. I know that a lot of you that come on here, do know her or know of her. She is our "brave daughter" and we are so proud of her. I, and i'm sure her dad, would be very pleased if you could at least send her a message to keep going and that you are all behind her to do well and beat this dreaded disease. If you cant afford to make a donation, thats ok. But please cheer her up by just sending her a message. I know she comes on this site every day, as she thinks you all are a great bunch of guys. (23 bty "rocks") So please let her know you are thinking of her, as we all want her to stay strong and not give up. Thanks for taking the time to read my message. From a very worried mum. Julie

Em! I cant imagine how you must be feeling at the moment, and I imagine most of the guys will also struggle to find the right words to say in own own old fashioned bullish way, of trying to give your our unrivalled support, love and comfort. Just wanted to say this really.
My family, as did yours, spent many years as part of the 23 Bty machine, and regardless of ups and downs, we were always reassured to know that nomatter what the problem, where the issue, how good or bad...the family would always be there for us. I know when I was leaving the Army, after spending some considerable time in a coma, with multitudes of injuries, and during those scary times when having been convinced that I would never recover, I looked deep inside my heart. Regardless what units I worked with after 23, this was and indeed always will be the family I look for when I need support. So what Im saying is, regardless how low or high you feel over the forthcoming challenging times, always remember, we are with you, we love you as one of ours, and we will all be praying for your recovery.

To all my dads army buddies, i am sure if you had the privilege of knowing my dad we could agree that he was a one of a kind Pearson! He was the best father a son could ask for and had shown me how to be a respectful and a honest Pearson,(just like him).
He often reminisced to me about the army and the antics he and his friends got up to, and says they were some of the best days of his life. To the people people that knew my dad, the next time you are in the pub raise a glass have a toast and think of the times you spent with him and made you laugh.

Me and your dad went back a long way and it was a privlage to serve along side him, we had some hairy moments in Irag and in particular an incident were we unfortunately went into a mine field, typical of us we could not stop laughing after we managed to get our arses out without blowing ourselves up, but is how we were and i will always remember him in my thoughts and heart. give my love to your family and in particular Kate. tommo

Firstly congrates to Paul Airey on becoming this years Bty Champion.

Sorry to hear that you had so few takers. I woulkd have offered but I already have enough to do with finishing the 27 site. I also have many projects in front of me and I am struggling to find time for those. The only thing I can suggest for the future, if terry thinks it a good idea, is to incorporate it into the 27 site in some way. The idea of the 27 site is that it runs itself as far as possible. I know that this is not what you want but it is just an idea.

Hi everyone can you tell me what problems you are having with the login? At the moment I can login in ok but I was working on it last week and will be next week (between golf and bricklaying). IOt will take me a few weeks to get it ready to hand over to Terry so sorry if there are any problems. You can email me if you can't get on the site.
At present I am trying to build a persoanl profile where you can upload more about yourself and put your photos (regimental only) online in personal and public albums.

If you look at the date that the Alive and kicking was posted i.e. at the beginning of the month and the date yours was posted i.e the end of the month.

You will find that no one is being disrespectful, it is just one of those things that happens. I think the preson involved has not realised, where their reply would appear.

We all feel sorry for the families of old collegues that have pasted away and would not want to cause any futher distress.

MY COMPANY NOW HAS ALOT OF WORK AND I AM FINDING IT DIFFICULT IN FINDING THE TIME TO WORK ON THE SITE AS I USED TO BE ABLE. I THINK YOU HAVE NOTICED THIS!!!

Hope everyone is well I’m looking forward to the golf. I have a weekend away in June playing golf with local society still don’t seem to improve. Off to Sharm next week for some diving. Sorry to read you are going to hand over the site. It has been a tribute to you and your family that you have spent so much time on it and your efforts have resulted in bringing the old 23/27 family together. I have been through this phase myself and tried to hang up the boots on more than one occasion but I am still here and planning more reunions. There are not too many volunteers out there so it wouldn't surprise me if we see a change of heart and your voluntary services remain on hold for a while yet. Whichever way it works out, you have my thanks for all the effort you have put in to date.

Hi all

For those of you that don't want too wait for Match of the Day or Football First on a Saturday.

Watch Premiership football on the NET for FREE.

Go to http://www.myp2p.eu then click the software tab, scroll down the page and you will see the software required.

Download TVAnts and Sopcast these are the two main programs, (remeber to reboot you machine after downloading the programs).

To run program,

Go back to www.myp2p.eu, go to Live Sport. Select the sport you want i.e. football from the list, then the game or match.

On the left hand side you will see all the stations that are running that game, double click on the the television picture on the far right of the page that has TVAnts or Sopcast and wait for it to load and your away.

With Sopcast you have to scroll and select the game again from the channel list once it has loaded.

With TVAnts just wait for it to load, be patient it will take a couple of minutes too load. If one channel does not work then try another.

All games run about 2/3 minutes behind.

She will never get you away from the machine on a Saturday afternoon any more Ha! Ha!

I received the following email yesterday from SandBay. Whilst bookings are good, I know a lot of you will leave it until the last week or so to make your booking. Please do it now if you are going to the reunion and quote 27RG, this ensures we are all seated in the same area in the dining room. I think the numbers are better than appears as not everyone quoted the booking ref: This happened at Hayling Island. From emails ,telephone calls and banter on the battery web sites I would think in excess of 200 would be realistic. Please if you haven't booked, do it now.

With Easter nearly upon us I thought it might be

a good time to give you an update.

Please note that bookings are still being received.



Identified Guests booked as at 19.3.2008 are 133.

These are people who have quoted the 27RG

Booking Code. These people have used 72 rooms.

There are also a further 60 booked but I cannot identify whether they belong to your group or not

We are still holding 43 rooms, but do have additional

group business looking for summer weekend space.

To this end I intend to reduce the amount of rooms

Being held for your regiment bookings today from 43

to 23.

I will hold these 23 rooms up until 25th April 2008 at which

Point all unsold rooms will be released for free sale.

I will be reducing the rooms held by 3.00pm today.

It’s Golf Time Again

Hi all

Paul Jones and I are organising the 23 Battery Golf for 2008, but before we can book anything we need to know your availability.

Possible dates:

Friday 18th – 19th July 2008
Friday 25th – 26th July 2008 (majority rule on date).

Competition will be held on the Friday, followed be a leisure game on the Saturday.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could let me know which of the dates you would prefer and if you are going to attend on your own or with a guest/s.

The Pipe and Gannex in Knowsley Village (Liverpool way), is always open for a surge of you drunken bums!. Up and running successfully thanks to the kind help from Tommo and Lorraine (pay me attention!) Thompson.

We are opening another 9 over the next 18 motnhs, so please dont feel spoilt for choice.

Mandy and I went up to Frankies for our 1st wedding anniversary last month, having re-married last Feb 14th, and we spent most of our time in Frankies pub and drank lots of alcohol, very big premises and has its own restaurant without a doubt big enough for a Bty get to together.
We had a great time and saw a bit more of Scotland this time round, looking forward to the regi reunion in June, so we'll see you there, hope your son is doing well in the mob, my daughter is joining up looking at being a dog handler.

I HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS AND SOME BAD NEWS FOR YOU ALL

1ST....EMMA GAVE BIRTH TO A BABY BOY LAST WEEK VERY PREMATEURE WEIGHING IN AT 4lb 6oz (DYLAN)WELL DONE EMMA AND MACCA.

2ND.....THE REASON DYLAN WAS BROUGHT INTO THE WORLD EARLY WAS THAT EMMA WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER OF THE BREAST.

EMMA IS NOW AT HOME AND WILL START HER THERAPY NEXT WEEK ALL GOING WELL.DYLAN IS DOING WELL AND IS OUT OF THE INCUBATOR.

EVERYBODY SENDS THERE BEST TO YOU EMMA AND AS YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM THE FIGHTING 23RD,WE ALL GIVE YOU OUR SUPPORT....SO COME ON GIRL LETS DO THIS 'C' WORD WE ARE ALL WITH YOU.

We need to use this site more and get more photo's to him of the family's then & NOW would be a good idea, also search through them boxes and dig out the Strongest man competion photo's, escape and evasion (girlie one) well done great effort and really enjoyed it, also the krypton factor sundays and other does we all got involved in.

spike, if its a venue your looking for......... my new pub.......its bigger,better and has its own kitchen and lounge with its own bar..... i know there was a moan about the hours we shut on the one you held at my old place.... but with the new scotish licencing (2005 act) thats not going to be a problem anymore.... ive just had terry and mandy up for a few days and theve seen the new place..... just a thought mate... take care frankie
