Hi Guy's, upon looking at the Names that Dicky Broughton has highlighted, that brought back so many memories of the times that I served with such Character's.
Here's just a few more that I can recollect from those Day's in Lippstadt.......
Sgt Frank Preece, Bdr Paul'Finley'Cowan, L/Bdr Andy Rowan.
L/Bdr Keith Williams, Gnr's Jock Patterson, Jock Clarke,
Para' Helliwell & Chaddy Chadwick and of course 'Grotch' S.J. Martin, who ended up in HQ Battery when I returned to the Regiment in '81.
My brain hurts, so I'm off for a cylindrical tube of joy!... See you later alligator, in a while, crocidile.....

Hi all

As I have said before Dia Edwards is trying to find this Sgt TM Carmichael?

Just been on the Regt site and someone has said his name was Tom?

I recognise the name and I think he was a clerk, stocky lad with dark hair about 5'10 - 6'00, something makes me think he was our Bty Clerk back in those days.

Anybody remember him????

There are also some really good courses down the South West of France near Biarritz. At this time of year there are some good offers on in Spain and Tunisia for golfers.

GOLF DAY -- SPIKE, 08:35:58 10/16/06 Mon [1]

What a great weekend had by one and all.
The venue was fantastic, the golf superb, and as company as always very spescial.
The bad weather stayed away for us all to have an enjoyable competition for 2006.
Haveing made the draw and then proceeding to collect the players HANDICAPS for this year, it dawned on me that it was going to be a very evenfull day. HA HA.
The words BANDITS and RINGERS sprang too mind, and yes they were in ABUNDANCE.
So as we took to the fairways it wasent long before we were hearing the CLATTER of TREES, the SPLASHING of water, and the LOUD shouts of 'FOUR', unless your name is TOPPER, then all you got was 'LOOKOUT' or 'ARE YOU ALRIGHT MATE'.
As the groups started to flock to the '19th', Paul had the task of assessing the scores and marking the cards, that was after he had picked himself up off of the floor from time to time due to the 'HOT FLUSHES' he had seeing such scores according too the handicaps. HA HA
Anyway with all the scores in and a few beers later.everyone returned to the clubhouse for the BUFFET and PRESENTATION.
Tomo 2006 champion and Scouse Jones the runner-up.
WELL DONE
Due to the feedback from all who attended, next years competition is something to look forward too.

HI all

As you might of guessed I'm back form my hols (Fab Time)sun, sea and sangria not forgetting San Migel.

Just a bit of info for you?

If you have got a Lidl store in your area, they are doing cheap flights with Air Berlin to lot of European destinations for a flight for upt £69 for £19 all-inclusive one way.

You buy the voucher in the store from 05/09/06 to 12/09/06
you the have 5 weeks to book your flight.
flights can be taken from 01/10/06 to 31/03/07.

The best bit is IF you do not find a fight for your chosen destination the you can return the voucher to you local store with proof of purchase before 04/10/06 and get you money back.

Sound like a good deal to me.

Any way guys and girls I'm back to work on Monday after my nice long break.

Anybody heard anything about scouse Kehoe?....
Have'nt seen him since we both worked together in Woolwich, way back in 1984!....Our careers, gone to the dogs, literately! Woof..Woof! Too much Vino, you could say!
If any of you guys are in touch with the old b-u-g-g-e-r, then please give him my regards.
I remember that he was one of the members of the 'Animal Bar' lunchtime crew in Lippstadt. Apart from being on 'Dirty Harry's' RP staff.
I should be seeing Les Charlton at the 49' Battery Reunion at Walsall on the 1st/2nd September. It would be good to tell him that scouse is still alive and kicking!.......
I should imagine that there will be a few ex-members of the fighting 23rd attending this particular bash!....
Take care out there, everyone!....Regards JIM.

Have just heard that 22' Signals Regiment are being taken out of moth-balls, and are being re-established and will be based at Stafford in the Midlands.

Well i made here at last, good to see everyone is still in contact with each other through the site. Russ and I now work together in the Middle East ('Yes' Security) i managed to get him to leave UK and join me out here. He still has the Swan in Topcliffe which Ann runs and Russ does a 6 week on and 6 week of job here - so has plenty of time to host a mammoth session in his pub.

I think it would be a good idea to see if we could maybe combine the GOLF competition with a trip to SMUDGES pub in Topcliffe also.Like Paul has said the course that has been suggested is a good course (not that it matters to some of us.Ha Ha)

Give me SOME indication please if you agree as it helps the organising of such great weekends away. The feedback page is working on site and youy can use it for any reasons.(clean ones though).
It wont be too windy this year TOPPER so you might not get that strange flight with the ball you had to get 'Nearest the pin'.

Sad News -- Jim Martin, 05:21:20 06/11/06 Sun [1]

I've just been reading the message board on the 27 Regimental site, and what Dicky Broughton has stated in regards the sad loss of Barry 'Edge' Fairman's wife.
There will be plenty of 23 Battery guys who will remember our B.K. Captain Fairman as was in the 1970's.
An Officer who was well respected and liked by all those who came across him. I would just like to add my condolence's to the many that will be evident once this sad news has been circulated around. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time. I'm sure, that many will remember.....

Hi, is there any one on this site who was in the bty around 1988-1990? I've spoken to mick sabota who was a positive influence while I was in the bty, but no one else from that tome seems to be around. I admit that I didn't know about this site until I spoke to mick on Friends reunited. If anyone remembers me it would be great to hear from you.

Hi Spike just to say thanks for great time that the fighting 23 bty showed us. You made us( 56 bty ) feel very welcome and so much a part of your reunion,I forgot what battery i was in. But I must say that the drinking competion(the jug club) was a little bit one sided.

It was a pleasure to meet 23 bty again and i hope not the last.

Just been looking at some of the photo's of the Reunion, and with everybodies imput should prove some crackers!....
Anyway just a thought in regards a possible venue for hopefully a sun-drenched and sand-greeter place for a 'Reunion'....I refer to 'Gibralter'
I think 'Plug' gave me the idea. Near to Spain, and besides I've never drank with the 'Monkey's before' Excuse the pun!....Barberry Apes withstanding of course!
Duty free, and British with the obvious connection to the Battery.
Perfect location, if you get my drift!.....What do you think?.........
Spike, by the way when I get my photo's developed I will scan them and push them down the e-mail pipe to you via attachment. Take care out there! Speak too you soon. Jim.

Just A Thought -- spike, 12:34:22 05/06/06 Sat [1]

Everyone who has been to this years reunion in Lippstadt has given great FEED BACK about the whole event.

We all know that it helps when you have a great place to have the reunions but in the end it is the 'people you are with'.As it has been said to me by some, some people wouldent of even got on the plane if it wasent for the company that was going.I think that speaks volumes.

Anyway there has been alot said about a venue for next year, the main place that has cropped up is 'SPAIN'.So let me have your thoughts about it as i will have to start on it soon.

Keep it safe...............spike

Reunion -- Plug, 09:49:50 05/06/06 Sat [1]

Hi Spike and everyone. Just got back into to UK via Hungary, Austria and Slovakia. Just want to say what a brilliant weekend it was catching up with you all, some I havent seen in over 20 years (scary isn't it), the venue couldn't have been more appropriate and the grub was fanatastic, although I was exbecting Bob's brattywagon and tinned chiken curry (its all Clives fault isn't it Cricket??). It was a shame that there were so many faces missing. The weather was a little on the chilly side though and I hear Geordie requested somewhere warmer next time. I showed a couple of folks at Lippy some images of Gibraltar when I went in feb this year the Temp was in the high teens so it might be a possibilty for a future venue in a couple of winters time maybe.
Anyway ill stop waffling and wish you all the best, Thanks Spike, for all the stress you went through, I hope you felt it was worth it, the end result deninately was, Regards Plug and Loz

It has taken me until now to recover and I am still not right, must add my thanks for a great weekend not only to Spike but 23 Battery as a whole for makeing the 56 Four so welcome.

For those that did not make it you missed a great time, though I think that the four of us competing against the rest of 23 Bty in a drinking competition was a bit unfair, especially as we nearly lost, very close run thing though.

Must add it was great being in the Lindenhof, watching Man Utd loose.

Thanks again

Smudge

Great weekend, although it felt like a week!. Fantastic to see everybody again in the old environment. The press woman was really pleased, especially to hear so many of us saying that the old camp looked good!. The big laugh amongst the Police we spoke to was that after spending so many years keeping the Russians out, they were now living in our barracks!. Would be interesting to know how it had been pre-announced that we were coming though.
After our laughs about heading the photo in the paper 'Find your Father', how funny was it to find that the young waitress was my daughter!.
Anyway, thanks to all for a great time, look forward to seeing you all at the next!

Hi All
Hope everyone had a safe journey home. Ali and I would like to say what a fantastic time we had. It was great seeing everyone again; also walking into camp after 26 years was rather emotional. And to think someone was living in my room that was not on. Ali could not believe how much ale people drank and I think I had a few divorcé’s over the weekend but we ok now. Once again I would like to thank all the people that where involved in the organization of the weekend it was fantastic. I am looking forward to or not to some of the photos that may turn up. Hope no one had any of me on dance podium. I still can not remember being on it
