The pub is called The Pipe and Gannex, Prescot, Merseyside if you google it, it gives loads of detail,including routes etc (no mention of the dwarf though...sorry Tomo). Look forward to seeing those that can make it.

hope you remember me (swifty) have some great memories of our time together in lippstadt and have beeb rying for ages to track you and all the other lads (badger, slasher, cav, stan, saf, woody, ian pople and all the rest) down.
Woody has been in touch (thanks woody) and gave me the site address.
It's really great to see all the names from the past on these boards and i am really looking forward to the reunion in Jan. Hope that you and everyone else can make it, 30 odd years to catch up on

its with great shock and sadness that i read the sad news of jocks passing, he was one of the first guys i worked with when i first arrived in the bty showed me the ropes so to speak .

Just logged on and read about Jock Sneddon Its hard to believe that he has gone, he was a really good bloke I know people say that when they are gone but he really was a good bloke I know he will be sorely missed by all my thoughts are with his family.

Just thought I'd write about today as I attended the Commemoration ceremony at St Pauls Cathedral for OP Banner.
It was attended by many ex service personnel and members who are still serving today.
I was very proud to be there today, and although it was to commemorate the end of the troubles in Northern Ireland it gave me a chance to remember all those members of 23 bty and the Regiment who are no longer with us, to many to name.
To which I would like to add that none of us are getting any younger, so lets make a conservative effort to attend as many reunions as possible in the future especially after all the effort that is put in by whoever organises them.
Met up with a lad I joined with back in '83 last time I saw him was in '85 in Ireland twenty three years ago, just goes to show that time waits for no one.
So come on lets get the next reunion up and running.

For those of you who don't know what this is all about.
It's about mine and Paul Airey's daughter Emma. She was born in Lippstadt in 1977 after her sister Lisa, who was born 1975, so a lot of you will remember them as little girls and will have seen them as young women at the reunions. Emma has recently been told that she has breast cancer which came out of the blue. I know that a lot of you that come on here, do know her or know of her. She is our "brave daughter" and we are so proud of her. I, and i'm sure her dad, would be very pleased if you could at least send her a message to keep going and that you are all behind her to do well and beat this dreaded disease. If you cant afford to make a donation, thats ok. But please cheer her up by just sending her a message. I know she comes on this site every day, as she thinks you all are a great bunch of guys. (23 bty "rocks") So please let her know you are thinking of her, as we all want her to stay strong and not give up. Thanks for taking the time to read my message. From a very worried mum. Julie

Em! I cant imagine how you must be feeling at the moment, and I imagine most of the guys will also struggle to find the right words to say in own own old fashioned bullish way, of trying to give your our unrivalled support, love and comfort. Just wanted to say this really.
My family, as did yours, spent many years as part of the 23 Bty machine, and regardless of ups and downs, we were always reassured to know that nomatter what the problem, where the issue, how good or bad...the family would always be there for us. I know when I was leaving the Army, after spending some considerable time in a coma, with multitudes of injuries, and during those scary times when having been convinced that I would never recover, I looked deep inside my heart. Regardless what units I worked with after 23, this was and indeed always will be the family I look for when I need support. So what Im saying is, regardless how low or high you feel over the forthcoming challenging times, always remember, we are with you, we love you as one of ours, and we will all be praying for your recovery.

Me and your dad went back a long way and it was a privlage to serve along side him, we had some hairy moments in Irag and in particular an incident were we unfortunately went into a mine field, typical of us we could not stop laughing after we managed to get our arses out without blowing ourselves up, but is how we were and i will always remember him in my thoughts and heart. give my love to your family and in particular Kate. tommo

Firstly congrates to Paul Airey on becoming this years Bty Champion.
Toby Grant (6 Bty) for on winning the Guest Comp and to Steve Eames (6 Bty) on winning the Nearest the Pin and the Longest Drive (by a mile).
Just like to thank everybody for there support and hopefully it will be a 23 Bty V 6 Bty comp next year so get out and practice so that we have a good team.

I also have many projects in front of me and I am struggling to find time for those. The only thing I can suggest for the future, if terry thinks it a good idea, is to incorporate it into the 27 site in some way. The idea of the 27 site is that it runs itself as far as possible. If you look at the date that the Alive and kicking was posted i.e. at the beginning of the month and the date yours was posted i.e the end of the month.
You will find that no one is being disrespectful, it is just one of those things that happens. I think the preson involved has not realised, where their reply would appear.
We all feel sorry for the families of old collegues that have pasted away and would not want to cause any futher distress.

There are not too many volunteers out there so it wouldn't surprise me if we see a change of heart and your voluntary services remain on hold for a while yet. Hi all
For those of you that don't want too wait for Match of the Day or Football First on a Saturday.
Watch Premiership football on the NET for FREE.
Go to http://www.myp2p.eu then click the software tab, scroll down the page and you will see the software required.
Download TVAnts and Sopcast these are the two main programs, (remeber to reboot you machine after downloading the programs).
To run program,
Go back to www.myp2p.eu, go to Live Sport. Select the sport you want i.e. football from the list, then the game or match.
On the left hand side you will see all the stations that are running that game, double click on the the television picture on the far right of the page that has TVAnts or Sopcast and wait for it to load and your away.
With Sopcast you have to scroll and select the game again from the channel list once it has loaded.
With TVAnts just wait for it to load, be patient it will take a couple of minutes too load. If one channel does not work then try another.
All games run about 2/3 minutes behind.
She will never get you away from the machine on a Saturday afternoon any more Ha! Ha!

I received the following email yesterday from SandBay. Whilst bookings are good, I know a lot of you will leave it until the last week or so to make your booking. Please do it now if you are going to the reunion and quote 27RG, this ensures we are all seated in the same area in the dining room. I think the numbers are better than appears as not everyone quoted the booking ref: This happened at Hayling Island. From emails ,telephone calls and banter on the battery web sites I would think in excess of 200 would be realistic. Please if you haven't booked, do it now.

With Easter nearly upon us I thought it might be
a good time to give you an update.
Please note that bookings are still being received.
Identified Guests booked as at 19.3.2008 are 133.
These are people who have quoted the 27RG
Booking Code. These people have used 72 rooms.
There are also a further 60 booked but I cannot identify whether they belong to your group or not
We are still holding 43 rooms, but do have additional
group business looking for summer weekend space.
To this end I intend to reduce the amount of rooms
Being held for your regiment bookings today from 43
to 23.
I will hold these 23 rooms up until 25th April 2008 at which
Point all unsold rooms will be released for free sale.
I will be reducing the rooms held by 3.00pm today.

Hi all
Paul Jones and I are organising the 23 Battery Golf for 2008, but before we can book anything we need to know your availability.
Possible dates:
Friday 18th – 19th July 2008
Friday 25th – 26th July 2008 (majority rule on date).

Shropshire

Competition will be held on the Friday, followed be a leisure game on the Saturday.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could let me know which of the dates you would prefer and if you are going to attend on your own or with a guest/s.

Mandy and I went up to Frankies for our 1st wedding anniversary last month, having re-married last Feb 14th, and we spent most of our time in Frankies pub and drank lots of alcohol, very big premises and has its own restaurant without a doubt big enough for a Bty get to together.
We had a great time and saw a bit more of Scotland this time round, looking forward to the regi reunion in June, so we'll see you there, hope your son is doing well in the mob, my daughter is joining up looking at being a dog handler.

1ST....EMMA GAVE BIRTH TO A BABY BOY LAST WEEK VERY PREMATEURE WEIGHING IN AT 4lb 6oz (DYLAN)WELL DONE EMMA AND MACCA.
2ND.....THE REASON DYLAN WAS BROUGHT INTO THE WORLD EARLY WAS THAT EMMA WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER OF THE BREAST.
EMMA IS NOW AT HOME AND WILL START HER THERAPY NEXT WEEK ALL GOING WELL.DYLAN IS DOING WELL AND IS OUT OF THE INCUBATOR.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO U GUYS AND LINDA.......Hope you have a great year. Just thought i'd drop a line and say.....OMG,the last 30 years has flown by. Its the big 50 for me this year and it doesnt seem that long ago since i was 16 travelling to Gutersloh airport by myself with Lisa just aged 4 months. Shes now 32. Got so many memories of living in Lippstadt tho. Can you remember Linda when we went on the Escape an invasion weekend, where we were dropped off in the middle of a wood with no food or sleeping gear and we had to find everything. Christine Roweth and Kathy jones was also in our team. Spike has a picture of us, hope he shows it. Fantastic weekend....Shame we didnt win.But we had plenty of blisters. Loved being part of 23 Bty....Great guys as im sure you all still are. Spike me old mucker..You should put a section on the sight, where people like myself can remember and share with others. Well it's that time of the year again.

The year has been a good one with most of us meeting up at some point for party's and golf weekends.So we had Paul's Birthday Bash in Bradford,Sue Flinn's Birthday in Liverpool,The 23 Bty golf comp in Northampton.
The Regt is haveing a reunion at the start of June so for the one's of you who are attending have a great time.I wont be there due to George not being of age (18)But thats just RED Tape and not Terry's Fault.
I would love to get something on the go for our BTY in 2008 so any ideas would be appreciated.
For any members of 23 who havent as yet been able to attend any functions over the past couple of years for whatever reasons,please get in touch as it would be great to see you at some stage.
So thats about it for now you lot,as i have said,enjoy your christmas and new year and remember to walk or taxi if out on the town ok.

Its almost ready for release!.
For those that have been asking, the book I have been contemplating releasing is now at the publishers in Pittsburgh PA.
It should be released early next year (hopefully January).
It is being released as a Modern Fiction, primarily to protect from any form of libel. However, many of you will recognise your characters from the 23 Bty days.
The review from the international book writers association says
'Composed in captivating narrative and compelling dialogue, the story flows at a brisk tempo. The plot contains more than a few strategically placed, unexpected twists that will maintain the readers interest throughout. The characters are developed and presented in a multi-dimensional fashion revealing the intricacies of their unique personalities and individual agendas. In addition, Mr Brown effectively managees to avoid artificially padding the work with superfluous ans unnecessary characters thereby keeing the focus directed toward the main storyline. Navigating the plot to a well-conceived and logical conclusion, the author will leave the reader with a sense of time well invested in the reading of this story. His highly creative style of writing combined with a keen attention to detail will further enhance the appeal of his work.'
The reason I mention all this on the site is so if any of you manage to get hold of a copy and read about your own character, I wanted you to know that I have tried to portray everyone mention in the positive light in which I experienced them.
Those that really want a copy, if you let Sppike know, and once it is out I will send him a box full and he can sebd them to you.
Oh, and Tommo and Spike...I'm sure both Chippy Fry and I both beat you on the BFT's ha ha.

Well wat can i say except, it must of taken a lot of time and no doubt an emense of hard work staying up in the weeeee hours to put the book together, and of course all this happening while you were juggling many other activities happening around you.
I am sure everyone will purchase a copy and WANT their copy signed by the author, That means u deserve all the recognition for wat u have achieved (covering your back always).
Oh and the above statement does not accept that either me or spike may of let you and chippy come in before us in the BFT's ha ha ha

Had a great weekend in Lippstadt during the Herbstwoche along with Bob Hasted and Dusty Rowlands. We also took along some lads from work who had never been in the Army let alone Lippstadt.
We went to the usual haunts, mainly the Golden Hahn and of course had to have a drink in the Capri Bar. We tried to explain to these "attached" civillians what the atmosphere was like, loud music, drunken squaddies, people fighting round the pool table and the fact that if you went to te toilet for longer than five minutes you had to be rescued.
Has anyone, though I doubt it got any photos of the inside of the Capri from the seventies.

Hi, i've been watching this site for a year or so and i have to wonder if 23 bty closed down in 1989? I've not seen many photos of any one in the bty during the late 80's. there are no pictures of any one who went back to germany in 89. I have myself sent pictures to the site host but have yet to see them ( it's only been a year!) basically ' any one who joined after 1987 isn't worth mentioning. considering that the first duty I did in 1988 for 23 was packing up the gear of a convicted peadophile maybe I shouldn't want anything to do with the "old sweats"

Are you lot (Dickie & Co) trying to hurt my feelings. I did 2 tours in 23 Bty one as Signals Bdr then the second as Sigs Sgt. Could't have done much if you cant remember me. Then again there is no mention of Graham Tune Brian Smart Al Linnington and several others. Just like to thank you all for your support with the reunion. I will leave it until after Christmas the get a letter out with maximum publicity. I will also put a list of those that have booked on the new website which should be up and running at the end of September with luck.

If at anytime anyone would like a break on the south coast(golfers in mind).I have now got a contact with the marriot hotels and can be provided with a weekend golf break at one of best courses in the Hampshire area.It has hosted the womens british open and the seniors open on many occations.

Since retiring from the Police in Jan 2006 i have taken up a post with the Histrorical Enquiry Team in Northern Ireland, basically speaking it is the review of the murders that occurred during the troubles (bet 1969 & 1998)and trying to give some resolution for the loved ones of those that were killed.So I thought it may be interesting to the ex Hampshire Gunners who toured the provice to give you an update on the current state of your old stomping areas.Firstly the 1977 tour, (23 Bty)The camp in Portadown has just closed but is still standing, the last military unit moved out about 2 months ago, (56 Bty)the 'nicker factory' in Lurgan has been demolished and is now waste ground. (6 Bty) The Maze prison is unused and derlelict and it looks like it is about to be demolished and replace with a National Sports Stadium. The 1980 tour, i can't remember exactly which Battery was where, but here go's, the Central Hotel is now a smart City Centre Shopping Mall, Girdwood Park still stands ,but is unused, the green gates are still the same though, Flax Street Mill has been tidied up and is offices, the Crumlin Road Prison is unused and derelict along with the Court House directly across the road, but i think developers are going to start on them both soon. The check point into Aldergrove airport was only knocked down in Feb of this year. What does remain are the murals on the wall ends and they are now a tourist attraction. Belfast is now a very popular city to visit with lots of good guiness being served, if any one is thinking of a break over there send me a mail and i will point you in the right direction for a good night out.

Hi, just an update on the 27 site. I am in the Uk at the moment with the flu and a slipped disc so work has come to a halt. I will be back in France next week so I will get on with it. Re the golf competition it sounds good and perhaps I will come along next year, especially if it is France!!
On the new 27 site I am building a log in system to stop people like the idiot who posted here. Good luck to you all wherever you are and remember, don't get a flu jab cos it always gives you flu!

I just think its such a shame that somebody has to go and act like a mindless idiot. This site is great and i log on EVERY day to see whos been on and what names i recongnise - as i do the REGT site.

Just thought I would let you know how things are going with the reunion planning. So far there are 72 confirmed bookings and that is at this early stage. I have yet to put out letters and probably wont do so until after xmas. If you haven't booked but you intend too, please do so early as this gives me a better planning figure to work with. From what I hear and the phone calls I get, I think we will have a really good turnout and a great weekend.
