Recognition for our troops in Afghanistan -- Roy Sheriff, 00:38:15 08/20/07 Mon [1]

Has anyone see the photo in todays Mirror (20/8/07) page 19 of Sir Richard in Afghanistan yesterday. He looks like a man who has the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Another excellent article by mirror in its campaign to get forces fighting in South Afghanistan a medal.
Quote Maj Gen Nick Vaux said " I support the mirror all the way in its campaign to get a proper medal for service personnel. It is monstrous troops are not being recognised properley. There should be a special medal to recognise those killed or wounded, not just a clasp.

This government is so embarred by Afghanistan they try to dumb down or disguise casualty figures, not award medals or issue a campaign medal as it recognises this whole thing has escalated way beyond what the public expected"

Article can be read here * http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/2007/08/20/we-are-stretched-but-we-re-winning-89520-19660951/

Please sign the broken covenant campaign by RBL at * http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/index.cfm?asset_id=516704

The government and GBP should hang their heads in shame for what they have done to our troops. It takes more than wearing a poppy for a day to show real support.

Come on lads, how long does it take to show your support for the kids of today and sign the petition. They are facing far more dangers than most of us ever did accross the water with Uncle Patrick.

Lets all show these kids and most importantly their families the respect they duly deserve.

As a civillian each and everyone of us has this legal right, isn't it a injustice that brave men and women at war are classed as 2nd class citizens and their families have to pay to find out the truth of how their loved ones died for their country.
Please sign the petition at
* http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Injury-awards/

These kids need our help. Lets not allow this or any other government to let them down. T

his is becoming a NATIONAL SHAME that is being picked up by many national papers including the Daily Telegraph, Mirror and Mail.

Legion now take up military covenant cause -- Roy Sheriff, 18:32:24 08/14/07 Tue [1]

A spokesman for the Legion said it had decided to focus on medical care, coroners' inquests and compensation. Last month it emerged that a civilian typist with the RAF received a payment of £484,000 after injuring her thumb at work while a 23-year-old paratrooper, Ben Parkinson, who will need care for the rest of his life after a serious landmine injury, will be given £152,150. Many injured personnel have still to receive their payments.

Happy Days -- Roy Sheriff, 20:58:44 08/02/07 Thu [3]

What a result. The day started early for many serving and ex servicemen and women who travelled from all over the UK. Everyone was suited and booted so as to try and protect identities of those still serving.
Massive last leaflet drop in Ashtead, Epsom and Leatherhead all day Wednesday before council meeting at 1900hrs, to continue to try educate locals of why we needed this home.
The council meeting had approx 150 people there (mainly forces connected) of all ages. We had about 10 of the boys (all still inpatients at Headley Court) all 18-26 years old approx, mainly all amputees come along also. The reception they got from all the abled bodied was unbelieveable. The bravery of these young men ( some of who have been M in D) who don't yet seem to realise what they have done. They are just so modest it was a real pleasure to be amongst them.

To actually see some men with tears in the eyes of all ages and ranks was unbelievabe. The tension and emotion in the rooms whilst waiting for the result, after everyone had worked so hard..

The women councilors did the military proud, many being mothers of children probably about same age as Headley boys. However somee of the male councillors abstained and showed a complete yellow back.

If you don't agree with 36 grays lane then say so but at least have the bottle to vote against not sit on the fence.

Afterwards the Headley Boys was (unannounced to pub) taken to a local pub in Dorking and the reception they got was unbelievable. Due to all the press and TV coverage over last 10 days everyone seemed to want to know these kids instead of hiding from them.

It was a great day for all our children and future grandchildren who may one day join the forecs or be serving at present. We all hope they never have to visit Headley Court but if they do then they now have excellent facities for their families to be close by.

Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign.

Roy

well done roy for bringing this to our attn,my 13yr old is adamant that he wants to be RMP and at the moment that scares the shit out of me,we certainly need these places not only to exist but also to know that they are proudly appreciated.
many of us ex army will probably see our kids and grand kids go in to service during our lifetime as some already have, we need to look after them wether it be protest marches, charity events or simply an open day to raise cash/awareness and these ex mil sites are the perfect way to let us all know whats going on.
well done to all concerned.

2 Days left to support our wounded at Headley Court -- Roy Sheriff@hotmail.com, 11:28:06 07/30/07 Mon [5]

DO ANYONE ACTUALLY GIVE A TOSS about our wounded boy's and girl's coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan?

All the other military sites are very busy on this subject including 49 Bty. Apart from Mick Sabotta and Wes Harding (49 Bty are really pushing this) no-one as asked anything about it or mentioned it on site.

Either no one is going on 6 Bty, 23 Bty or 27 Regt sites or is it a case no-one cares as it don't effect them. Please tell me I'm wrong, this will be a national disgrace if the NIMBY's win on Wednesday.

Thanks Steve,

Very much appreciated, I just think I'm one of the lucky ones, I have my health. As you may remember I had a bad accident in Germany but it was only due to the exceptional care of BMH Rinteln I made a full recovery. I wouldn't trust the NHS to have given me that care, if I needed it today.

But we all know people who are still serving, or have our children or possible grandchildren who are in the forces or interested in joining them.

As very few politicians seem to care about the military it is down to both serving and ex military to kick up enough of a stink that someone in authority does there job properley for the next wounded person and his family who has to unfortunately visit Headley

The council chambers where packed, with both serving and ex military. There was about 10 boys come from Headley court, with all there problems. Really was a amazing day.

If your interested you can view the meeting on the Internet via Mole Valley District Council site. Great result for all our children

Nimby neighbours war with SSAFA - WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT -- Roy Sheriff, 01:08:37 07/27/07 Fri [1]

The following has been copied from the Arrse Website at www.arrse.co.uk

If MVDC only published letters of objection, then they had only received letters of objection and none in support.

Locals may have expressed support, but not if writing.

I think the, nearly, 300 letters of support that have since been added lend credibility to this logic.

Spike, after talking to some of the lads i think it might be a good idea not to have a 23bty reunion in 2008 in Lippstadt and i think we are not getting any younger and we should all make a effort to surport the regimental reunion in Westonsuper mare on the 6th-8th of June 2008, full details on the 27 site. so come on the 23rd lets all turn up and surport not only the regiment but Terry for all the hard work that he puts in.

On this occasion I coudn't agree more, I feel we should support the Regimental reunion, where the timings and economics of a reunion clash with another. Take care mate.

Hi Stan

I have signed your worthwhile petition sometime ago, I have

also circulated an appropriate e-mail containing the

relevent link to my friends and colleages. Bearing in mind

that I used to work for Nalgo/Unison Head Quaters at one

Mabledon Place London I would imagine that could prove

useful when you consider the size of Unisons membership.

I was hopeful that this would have made an impact on your

petition, well thats the best I can do. Take care, good

luck.

Reunion News -- Terry St Pierre, 11:04:55 06/25/07 Mon
The 27 Regimental Reunion will take place 6-8th June 2008.
The venue is Sandbay, Kewstoke, Weston Supermare. Costing for the weekend will be £89.00 per person. This is for overnight accommodation for 3 nights inclusive of Breakfast and Dinner. There will also be a 50p bar on the Saturday night for House branded drinks.
Accommodation is Chalet type with on-suite. Basic but clean and comfortable.
Entertainment is provided nightly with dancing and cabaret but an alternative function room is available for those wanting a more quiet life.
Booking: Please book direct through Hollybush at Sandbay Tel: 0845 8800 211 and quote booking reference(27RG).
It is important to book ASP as this venue is open to the general public but the manager will try and hold our rooms as long as possible. A £20.00 deposit will be payable when booking.
Finally, it is a while since we had a major reunion and this venue is capable of holding us all. We are all getting older and the regiment played a big part in our lives so lets have a good one.
I will be sending out letters individually once I get postal and email addresses updated.
My best regards to you all

Regimental Reunion -- Terry St Pierre (Optimistic), 23:57:18 04/30/07 Mon [1]

Hi Guys,

Just been reading the message book for the last few months, trying to catch up with all the news. Terry and Carmel are now alive and well and I am planning a reunion for 2008. I would be grateful if all of you who visit this site would take a minute to email me with your current email and postal address so that I can bring my data base up to date, I am also planning a new regimental website with a former member of 23/56 Bty Dave Abbott.
I know your loyalties are with 23 Bty but lots of soldiers served in 6/23/HQ so please visit the regt site occasionally and leave the odd message. It makes me feel useful and keeps the critics at bay.
Regards to all.

Terry and Carmel

Reunions and get togethers -- Paul Airey, 13:47:44 04/30/07 Mon [1]

I take your point about having a party/reunion in a different location but like Spike said dont just talk about it or post messages come up with some ideas and phone Spike and talk about locations and everthing else that gos into arranging these events,i did and thats why we have held the reunion,Toppers stag party in Birmingham,Golf etc and again the reunion in 2008.Didnt some one come up with the idea about the Scotland Reunion that went well. The BTY members after lets say 1986/88 come up with some ideas and get in touch or even come to some of the things that are held and meet some of the older members

PARTY'S,REUNIONS,ETC,ETC,ETC -- spike, 08:51:38 04/30/07 Mon [1]

NOW THEN

WHEN I COMPILED THE BTY SITE I DID IT FOR ALL BTY MEMBERS, NOT OMITTING ANYONE FOR WHAT YEAR THEY WERE IN OR FOR WHAT PLACE IN THE WORLD THEY SERVED.
LIPPSTADT WAS SUGGESTED FOR 2008 BY ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO WENT IN 2006 WHO ENJOYED THERE TIME THERE WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
YES IT WAS CORRECT IN SAYING THAT LIPPSTADT WASENT THE ONLY PLACE WHERE 23 BTY WERE BASED AND I UNDERSTAND THAT IT DOSENT MEAN A ALOT TO SOME.
IN MY TIME WITH THE SITE I HAVE SEEN LADS FROM ALL YEARS COME ON AND GO, AND FOR ONE I WOULD LOVE TO MEET SOME OF YOU THAT I NEVER SERVED WITH BUT ALAS,I HAVENT HAD AN INVITE YET.HA HA.
I WILL SAY AGAIN THAT THE SITE IS FOR ALL WHENEVER OR WHEREVER YOU SERVED,IT'S TO KEEP HOLD OF YOUR MATES WHO MEAN ALOT TO YOU AND TO MEET THEM IF YOU CAN THROUGHOUT THE YEARS.ME?IM ONLY THE MESSENGER OK.I CANT PUT ANYTHING ON THE SITE IF I AM NOT ASKED TO SO SO.
I WILL SAY PARTY'S,GOLF WEEKENDS,REUNIONS ARE FOR ALL AND IF YOU DONT WIDH TO ATTEND THEN THATS UP TO YOU.
MY E-MAIL IS WITH THIS MESSAGE AND CAN BE FOUND ON THE INDEX PAGE IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO CONTACT ME.

BE GOOD.................SPIKE

possible uk reunion. -- mick sobota, 14:39:00 04/24/07 Tue [8]

hi gents, can you bear with me for a few minutes, as you know when we moved from lippstadt to topcliffe some guys stayed there or got out and once in topcliffe quite a few new characters joined .
for me personally although i was in lippy for only 2/3 months prior to returning to blighty i was in gutersloh for 4 years on and off and maybe its the pole in me(no jokes please this is a family site) but i never quite took to germany. so while i know how important lippy was to many people and realise that a lippy reunion should go ahead may i offer an idea for all those who do not have an affinity with baor.
how about anyone with a birthday, wedding, gathering of any kind consider hiring a sizeable venue to which bty members can make a contribution to the costs and make it (if you like)an unofficial reunion. thoughts, ideas and comments welcome.

Hi Mick

Yes I do remember Una however, I haven't visited the Windsor or the Hospital Tavern in some years, I occasionally drink at the Fitzgeralds, formally known as the Elephants Head, Anna and Martin visit quite often too. Perhaps we'll meet up there for a drink, if you run into Anna and Martin ask them to give me a ring, they have my number. Nice to hear from you Mick, take care.

Just a little over sensitive there aren't we however, it was fine when some guy's were being a little sexiest in their remarks about the LADIES. I call that hypocrisy.

If my Shadow remarks has offended anyone I apologise most sincerely, that was not my intention, you should remember even black men have a sence of humour, and if we step over the mark, there in enough government funded organisations to tell one. Those making humurous comments earlier regarding women had the decency to say who they were, thus we knew their specific sense of humour. Some loser that comes on anonymously and makes rascist comments is not welcome. Although I only speak for myself, Im sure others agree.

Did the slave trade contribute to the racist views held by some today? What do you say

Should old aquaintance be forgot -- Dave Wells, 11:03:24 01/19/07 Fri [1]

Hello Troops.

1st visit. Nice to see old faces and names. Got me all nostalgic. Fond memories of Lippy. Must go back sometime. Does anyone have any annecdotes of ol squares? What a character he was. Anyone know where he is? i remember a card game in the club. Squares turn to get the Tartans in. Goes up, sits down, opens (well, tears)a packet of peanuts. Someone swapped the packet for the ashtray! Poor guy! If you out there mate, would love to hear from you. Dave Kendal, Norman Appleby, cricket, Ollie, Chanty, Stan, and any of the old crew, drop me an 'e'. Would love to chew the fat.
