What a show!! #1 Qualifier Jason Scruggs 3.99 #2 Qualifier was Hugh Scott 4.05 #3 Qualifier Gaylen Smith 4.09 (Personal best) #4 Qualifier Jerry Hicks 4.10 #5 Qualifier Frankie Taylor 4.14 #6 Qualifier Nathan Martin 4.25 #7 Qualifier Ron Stokes 4.31 and #8 Qualifier Matt Jones 4.32. That's right, a 4.32 bump.

1st round winners - Jason Scruggs beat Matt Jones; Hugh Scott defeated Keith Ferris (Stokes unable to make the call); Gaylen Smith defeated Nathan Martin and Jerry Hicks defeated Frankie Taylor.

2nd round winners - Jason Scruggs defeated Jerry Hicks; and Gaylen Smith defeated Hugh Scott (Smith's 4.10 to Scott's 4.05)

Final round - Scruggs defeated Smith. Again, what a show. I believe there were 25 Pro Mod cars trying to make this 8 car field. Hats off to all!!

During qualifying on Saturday, Big Jim Brooks got out of shape on the finish line and unfortunately crashed his beautiful brand new blown Monte Carlo. Last I heard, Jim was banged up and bruised but nothing serious (thankfully). Jim, were glad you okay. Gaylen and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Why don't you tell us how you can be reached and I am sure a few people will test you and see exactly how big your balls are in person. I know grant personally and he isn't playing games. Why would any spectator think they have the right to get on a Pro Mod message board and even pretend to be a expert on anything. Hey, Davis you really don't need to be envolved. Your opinions doesn't count for squat! You are nothing more than a tiny thorn that needs to be pulled and thrown in the trash where you belong. Have you ever wondered why no other members are responding to your posts besides Mr. Hensley. He has slamed your ass so bad that there is no reason for any one else to be envolved. You are a selfserving shithead and I think there really isn't a bobby davis. I bet you couldn't be found if everyone searched for decades. I am anonimous but everyone knows I am. You think your putting up a front by signing a name. Why don't you use sam smith, john doe, tom brown, joe black, ted johnson, mike thomas, bill taylor or any other name where you can't really be found. If you really are a real person, how can you be reached? Enough is enough! You chicken shit bastard.

To Mr. SMART ASS Bobby Davis -- Grant Hensley, 12:31:20 08/01/01 Wed

It is quite obvious that you don't know jack sh!t and probably can't find your ass with either hand. Your not worthy of a reply but I feel the need to fill you in.

The last time I was at Navasota was in 1998. I runnered up at that race and I never could get down the track. It is a damn shame that a car that can't even make a full pass can still go all the way to the final round. What does that tell you about the track? Also there were two wrecks at that race (1) Hicks (2) Satterwhite and Trouble. What does that tell you about the track? When I later looked at the videos of the race, it was very clear that the track is not safe enough to have Pro Mod cars on it.

As for Gaylen Smith, he has one bad ass race car and he is an excellent driver and racer. Gaylen qualifies everywhere he goes unless he breaks something. Now that doesn't include Navasota because last year I think he told me that he didn't qualify at half the races at Navasota because he couldn't get down the track. What does that tell you about the track?

As for Frankie Taylor, he also has one bad ass hot rod. He has raced at Navasota as much as any Pro Mod car. Frankie is a different type of racer and driver. He usually is out of control on all fronts. I am not trying to belittle Frankie because I really can't see him operating any other way. He deserves a lot of credit for all of his accomplishments. I congratulate him for all that he has done. He does hold the track record at Navasota but at what expense? How many times has he wrecked at Navasota? How many times has Frankie wrecked in total? How many tracks has Frankie wrecked at? We are talking some big numbers here. Just because Frankie makes it down the track doesn't mean he made it safely. Just because Frankie makes it down the track and runs a good number doesn't mean that the track is at least decent. Frankie is not your average Pro Mod racer so don't try to draw comparisons. It doesn't work. Frankie would race his Pro Mod down a gravel road if dared. He is about the only Pro Mod operation that functions that way.

Here is my excuse. I race for fun. When I dump the clutch I would like to know that I have a chance of making a good pass without risking wrecking my car due to piss poor track conditions. These cars are a hand full to start with. Their pretty darn expensive too. I don't like tearing my stuff up and I don't like aborted runs. Racing at an unsafe track is not part of my racing goals. I have other ways of showing how Macho and Manly I am that are much less costly.

I don't hide from anything especially ignorant spectators that have no clue. As I have already stated, I don't care what Navasota pays, I don't think any Pro Mod should race at any track unless the price is right and more importantly, the track is Pro Mod safe. Why would I try to make someone else do what I won't do? You make no sense!

Your one small FACT was actually FICTION boy! Let me make it clear that I have nothing against Mickey Ellis. Mickey may have helped a few personally selected Pro Mod racers in the past but he hasn't "done so much for the Pro Mod guys". Ok he opened a track and had Pro Mod shows! He did that to make money, not help Pro Mod racers. He did pay me my runner up money but that was earned not given.

As for Mickey telling Pro Mod racers to never come back to his track. We've already been there and he has already done that! He also realized he was cutting his own throat and retracted his statements.

I hope you enjoyed the show last Saturday. From what I have heard you are getting your wish because back half cars did make the field. Since it appears that you think you know everything, why don't you get your KNOW IT ALL ASS out of the bleachers and get yourself a Pro Mod car? Then you can show us all how easy and simple it really is! If you don't want to go through all that trouble, go help Freeman. I'm sure with your help, y'all can get it all figured out in no time! (Sorry Freeman but it looks like you two guys were made for one another!)

Lastly, if you have a problem with the so called Pro Mod shows at Navasota, complain to the track not the racers.

Good luck with what will surely be an ignorant reply!

You tell me there is no need for an ignorant reply but you give me one anyway! Actually it was worse than ignorant!

So are you telling me that you go to the Kennedale races? If you do then you are actually more stupid than I originally thought. You have now won the village idiot award!

It is totally obvious that you have no clue as to what you are talking about! Before you start criticizing people why don't you take a walk in their shoes? If the best response that you can come up with is that I don't know how to drive,
your arguement is getting really weak and embarrassing if you didn't already know! I thought you would at least have a few more stupid questions for me!

Your just another guy with an opinion and comments that have no basis and conflict with facts. Please try to understand (you mental midget) everyone has a right to their own opinion but that doesn't make everyone's opinion right. People with opinions like yours need to keep them to themselves. Last try Davis -- Grant Hensley, 14:10:49 08/03/01 Fri

With every post of yours that I read, you continue to show me that you are truly clueless and a complete moron. Don't tell me I am starting to see the light. You are in complete darkness. I see the complete picture and you are nothing short of blind. You talk out of both sides of your face and I am sick and tired of it.

The goal of the TOPMA is to try and act professional and project a professional image. By the pure definition of the word professional, no TOPMA member is a professional. Professionals earn a living at their profession. Do you really think any TOPMA member makes a living drag racing? There are actually very few professional Pro Mod drag racers like Shannon Jenkins, Ed Hoover and Ronnie Hood. Do you really think that any professional Pro Mod racer would go to a race where the total purse was only, $6,500? The TOPMA has quality cars and deserve at least a $6,500 purse at any and all tracks. That is not too much to demand.

No professional racer could survive on the minimal purse that the TOPMA requires. And you still want to state that the TOPMA has Professionals (excluding me) and should be willing to race for less than $6,500. Your line of BULLSHIT is so far off, and utterly pitiful.

I can't express how stupid you look on this board. I have talked to a few members and they think you are nothing short of clueless. When was the last time you went to a real (national) professional drag race? If you have ever gone, you know that you have to pay a lot more than $15.

As for armchair quarterbacks, I have been around a lot of them in my day and all of them have known more about what they are talking about than you do. You aren't worthy of being called one because you know very little about this subject (you have proven it time and time again!).

Most spectators that watch drag racing aren't armchair quarterbacks. Most spectators appreciate the cars and racers and don't bitch about the association that supports them. If you didn't know, by bitching at Hot Rod who represents the association (he was voted in), you are actually bitching at the association and all it's members.
No one appreciates or cares for your input in this association. If you want to be a member it's free to join. All you need is a Pro Mod car. Go get one and join.
Your vote will be equal to everyone else's.

Until then, quit your bitching and shut the fuck up. I don't think I can make things any clearer.

Your the fucking idiot here!I know local pro mods cant make a living with there cars much less pay for them out of the winnings. The only darkness here is you head up your ass.Pull it out and you may see the light. I never said $6,500 was to much to ask for you blind asshole. I said its a business and you bargan for what you can get but you dont break the backs of small tracks that dont have the total funds (typed very slow so you can read and understand)I see absolutely no professional image here when your leader informs every one on a web not to race at a certian track because there isnt enough money. Real professional to say the least my ass! Purses are earned-Not demanded!Still looking where any thing was said that your professional--actually any thing but and it appears your a tad short of a 6 pack and border line total moron.I could care less what your members think and yes I go to nationals at an average of $50-75.00 a day and see what I paid for. No words were spoken about a $15.00 promod show other than the attempts to short the car count through the web page.I cant see where your association is supporting shit other than to threaten them with bylaws.I definitely am bitching at Mr. Hotrod as he is the ass who made the statements on this web board. I dont think I saw your name on any thing but your idle bullshit post or any other members name on it. I am not stupid enough to purchase a car I couldnt support and then bitch about how much it cost. I will consider the stop bitching statement when Mr. Hotrod post a appoligy for trying to deliberty screw up a decent family run and operated track. Untill then Mr.Hensley you can definitely kiss my ass as you have proven nothing.

Mr. Conley;
You have misread the post on the pro mods. Navasota race way slanders no cars or class of cars.We as spectators (real non beer drinkers)true race fans who pay the admission to see races were pissed off as to the post made by Mr. Hotrod adviseing the promod drivers not to run the race due to violation of there bylaws. The event was billed as a Q-8 /promod and not TOMPA but Mr. Hotrod decided to play GOD and try to ruin the event. The track let a couple of backhalf cars in to build the field. This didnt bother us as fans but it was more the crap Mr. Hotrod posted on thes web site below.Hense a few words was said about the (slower cars). With tracks closeing all over the U.S. we sure as hell dont need Mr. Hotrods attitude trying to hurt smaller operations. On behalf of the spectators please accept our appoligy for any misunderstanding towards"slower cars"as we like any thing that gets down the track under competition.

[> [> [> HotRod's post was made mainly so the spectators would know that it was not an actual TOPMA. -- ProMod Fan, 13:23:59 08/03/01 Fri

So they wouldn't show up excepting to see all the cars posted at the top of Navasota's board, just to be disapointed when they weren't there. Hotrod's attitude was not trying to "hurt smaller operations" but these ProMods can't afford to run for free either as they are "Small Operations" themselves if you think about it. They aren't in the same league as John Force, etc., in that they don't have the big National Sponsors paying for their cars and expenses. You obviously have no clue how much on an average it costs these guys to make a single pass, much less 2 qualifying and then 3 more if you make it to the finals. This is why they require $6500 min. to run a program because it would be nice if their expenses were at least covered. But you don't think about it from the Driver's point of view. Oh an by the way I have been known to drink a beer or two while watching a race, does that mean my $15 isn't as good as yours?????

NAVASOTA RACE SATURDAY NIGHT -- HOT ROD, 18:13:15 07/27/01 Fri

SATURDAYS RACE AT NAVASOTA IS NOT A "TEXAS OUTLAW PRO-MOD ASSOCIATION" SANCTIONED RACE. THE PURSE IS NOT AT THE REQUIRED $6500.00 AMOUNT. THE ASSOCIATION HAS ATTEMPTED TO GET NAVASOTA RACEWAYS PERSONEL TO POST THE RACE AS A GRUDGE MATCH WITH ALL INVITED CARS TO BE LISTED THAT WERE TO BE AT THE EVENT. BY THE TRACK POSTING THIS INFORMATION ON THE "TOPMA" BOARD AND THE NAVASOTA BOARD. WE WOULD NOT HAVE ANY CONCERNS WITH THIS BEING BILLED AS A "QUICK 8 PRO-MOD" OPEN SHOW. THE TRACK PERSONEL HAS NOT DONE AS THEY AGREED ON. THIS MAKES RACING AT THIS EVENT A VIOLATION AGAINST THE BYLAWS OF THE "TOPMA" RULES.THE RULE STATES NO MEMBER OF THE "TOPMA" WILL RUN ANY EVENT FOR LESS THAN THE $6500.00 PURSE SET AT THE PRESEASON MEETING. ALL TRACKS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF NAVASOTA HAS STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE AND MET OUR REQUESTS FOR THE $6500.00. EACH TRACK WAS GIVEN A FIRST RACE ONLY EXCEPTION TO THE PURSE. THIS IS INCLUDING NAVASOTA RACEWAY, WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THE RACES TO FOLLOW WERE TO BE AT THE REQUIRED AMOUNT. THE ONLY TRACK THAT HAS NOT HELD UP TO THIER END OF THE AGREEMENT IS NAVASOTA RACEWAY. OTHER TRACK OWNERS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THIS TAKING PLACE. WE HAVE GIVEN THE TRACKS THE BEST SHOWS EVER THIS SEASON. FOR THIS THEY HAVE HELD UP TO THE AGREEMENT WITH OUR ASSOCIATION. THE DRAW BACK FOR GOING AGAINST THE RULES IS THAT THE TEAM RACING IS NOT ALLOWED TO RACE ANY OTHER "TOPMA" EVENT THE REST OF THE YEAR. THIS COULD CAUSE EVERYTHING WE HAVE WORKED FOR THIS SEASON TO BE FOR NOTHING. WE MUST STICK TOGETHER WITH OUR RULES TO KEEP THE ASSOCIATION STRONG. ALSO INSURE THE QUALITY OF OUR SHOWS AND PERFORMACE LEVELS TO BE HIGH. ANY ONE CAN CONTACT ME ONLINE OR CALL ME AT (281)610-7572.

Instead of trying to knock your guys out of racing you need to get your act together and build your show. You have lost spectators due to your drag asses sitting around and we sit in the stands 2 damn hours waiting to see supercomp cars race one another. You have no excuse to make us the fans wait untill 2 am to have a final. No one cares what money or how much you race for but if you cant draw your fans out to the track that could be the cause of the low pay for your guys. This is supost to be a show for us so work on getting up to the plate and treat us better and maby you can get all the ones you have pissed off for the last couple of years to come back and then talk your money shit

[> [> Hello BOBBY DAVIS! -- Grant, 07:08:35 07/29/01 Sun

Don't even start blaming that BS on the Pro Mod racers. It is the track's responsibility to run a prompt schedule. I and several other racers have complained about how slow some track owners run their shows. We are there to race! We don't like to sit on our hands either. Have you ever been to Texas Raceway? They always run a prompt program and it is over by 12:00. Also these so called Super Comp racers you referred to rarely appear at Tx raceway because they can't make the show! The bump for an 8 car show was 4.32 earlier this year.

Hey,if you don't like "super comp racers" get your own car
get out of the stands or quit drinking and bitching. It costs
a lot of money to run a "super comp car" so pony up or shut
up,if ya'll are racing for money then you need a major wake up call. Nascar is the only one pays money, set a example or
there never will be new pro mod AKA "super comp racers".I race for fun damn sure ain't for the money!!!! maybe you should too!!!!!

[> [> [> "SUPER COMP AKA PRO MODS" -- John Conley, 21:55:59 07/30/01 Mon

If you would look at this from a business view you would see that the so called slow cars draw just as many fans as the fast cars.So for a track owner to tell the slow cars to stay home,is dumb because the "SLOW CARS" buy just as many refreshments as the fast cars maybe more. We don't have as much maintainence between rounds.I do this for fun not take bread out of my families mouth just to get a new tranny.
Maybe that's why these people are bitching, maybe they are in way over there heads to put on a show. IF THAT IS TRUE,SHAME ON YOU.Either way learn to be nice to new racers that are trying to break into topma instead of telling them to stay home because they are to slow!!!!

[Edit]

[> [> [> [> Mr. Conley -- bobby davis, 17:00:25 08/01/01 Wed

Your absolutely right as to the cars and speed. The track owners in this case arnt slamming the pros but they seem to fill in with lesser cars when we pay good money to see the top runners. I like any thing personaly that runs side by side down the track.Mr. Hensley is the professional here and evidently has to make his house notes on his ability and is proably failing like his driving ability. It appears unless he is at a Winston track he hasen't the talent to set his car up in a safe manner to get down the track. Its a shame there small minded group has tried to hurt a family owned track that has helped some of the same dirtbags thats bitching about the money.I guess they dont know how to call the IHRA and go mess with the big guys and big money if they feel so superior.

[Edit]

[> [> MR. DAVIS -- HOT ROD, 16:58:35 07/29/01 Sun

AS GRANT SAID IN RESPONSE TO YOUR STATEMENT. WE PROVIDE THE CARS FOR THE SHOWS. IT IS THE TRACKS JOB TO GET THE PROGRAM TO RUN IN A TIMELY FASHION. IT TAKES THE SLOWER CARS AS WELL AS THE QUICKER ONES TO MAKE A SHOW. THE TRACKS THAT PAY THE PURSE USUALLY GET THE CREAM OF THE CROP. SINCE YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE LENGTH OF TIME IT TAKES TO PUT ON THE SHOW. TALK TO THE TRACK PERSONELL. SATURDAYS SHOW AT NAVASOTA WAS NOT ONE OF OUR "TOPMA" SHOWS FOR YOUR INFO!! THE PURSE WAS NOT AT OUR REQUIRED PAYOUT. SO YOU ARE COMPLAINING TO THE WRONG PERSON ABUOT THE QUALITY OF THE SHOW.

[Edit]

[> [> [> Mr Grant ,Mr Hotrod -- bobby davis, 15:49:05 07/30/01 Mon

The changing of the name to TOPMA dosen't change any thing. The fact remains the in order to get your so called pro mods to the line they have to be threatened for a half hour to get to the staging lanes and this is evident to the spectators. In case you dont know there is a PA system for us also. Now are you suggesting they disqualify all the tardy ones? If they do there would be no more than 3 to 4 cars left to race so now you got a problem. You have me (spectator) who paid my money to see a show and no cars.As to your $6,500 money thing I remember when Micky paid $5,400 to $5,800 a night and with the same results. Car count was not good but you shit on him back then to race for Gillitie(msp)and got what you deserved. You now are telling us that the TOMPA and a $6,500 purse is going to guarantee top quality promods?I think not but I will lay and wait untill I see it.

[Edit]

[> [> [> [> Mr. Davis -- Grant Hensley, 09:17:50 07/31/01 Tue

What track do you go to? Most tracks know that the racers need some lead time. If the track puts a schedule out of when each round will be, the cars will be ready when called. That normally doesn't happen except for Texas Raceway (which runs a prompt schedule with the best Pro Mod Fields in TEXAS). When the track starts running behind, the racers can't be ready right when called. The motors need to be at the right tempurature. Nitrous bottles need to be at the right pressure and then installed in the vehicles. There is also between round maintenance that must be performed. If the track gets behind, it is very hard to catch up. Calling the cars right back for the next round right after a round is finished is not going to work. These aren't bracket cars.

I hate to be brutally honest here but if you are talking about what goes on at Navasota, you need a reality check. A $6,500 purse at Navasota or North Texas Dragway will not guarantee that top quality Pro Mod cars will attend. These tracks need a lot of work before they will be able to draw a top quality Pro Mod field (it doesn't matter what the purse is). I in no way mean to offend Mickey or Chuck, I am just stating what I think they already know.

[> [> [> [> [> Tracks need a lot of work? -- bobby davis, 17:15:47 07/31/01 Tue

Grant-when was the last time you raced at Navasota? I dont recall the name and I am a spectator on most every type of race.Lets see gaylen Smith seems to run ok and Frankie taylor seems to run ok at Navasota. Frankie holds the record some where at 4.22. Now that aint to bad a times or do you have a really bad ass ride Mr. Hensley? Now I assume if these blower cars can make it safely down the track then the track must be at least decent. So whats your excuse? Are you also hiding behind the new TOMPA or you just not a good enought driver to make the show?Your new group seems to be telling the car and drivers to stay home. So if they posted the funds do you have the balls to make all the members show up? I dont think so. Bottom line boys is with your crap on the "against the rules"routine and trying to hurt small tracks will come back on your azzes like stink on shit. You may as well go back to your thief that took all your money at least 2 times cause you shure as hell havent learned any thing yet.One small note:FACT IS Mickey Ellis has done so much for the pro mod guys and got shit on so much I hope he tells all your TOMPA to never come back.As a true spectator I just as soon see the fast back half cars. At least they answer the call to the line with out wearing out the PA system.

You obviously don't know Grant Hensley, but I have a pretty good feeling your about to know him very well. But first I will let you know that he does have a new Pro Mod that hasn't been out yet this year because he is still working on it. But if you would like to see a picture of it, just scroll to the top of this board. His is the car on the bottom right, "The Agitator". This is not his first one either.

What comes next should make for some entertaining reading for quite a while, LOL. Anyone that knows Grant, knows what I'm talking about. Right Grant.

I think the words were I dont remember ever seeing Mr. Hensley at navasota or any other track I have been to.So I will give you the "New Car" thing. What about the old car?He is the one in defence as I am just a spectator (non beer drinking one)We are the ones getting screwed. He states that the navasota track is bad and I just stated the facts on et ran there. Now one more time I ask Mr. Hensley when has he run at navasota and where else has he run prior to his now "new car"? Why does he assume the track is bad with out ever being there that I know of for the last couple of years?Has he ever ran a 4.20--430? If he has where? I only ask this because he has so much opinion about TOMPA and Navasota and yet he has no driving credit that I can find at any track i go to.Now that thats out of the way why not address the real issue here of telling your guys to not race or to boycott a track that has supported promods for many years. As stated before you have the ability to tell the racers to not run a track due to the money issue but you dont have the ability to send the group to a track that has the bucks up front if you dont like the surface and this one definitely can hold lo-4's. Something very wrong here Mr. Hotrod and Mr. Hensley.Me thinks you laid an egg and its rotten as hell!

I will now list some of the tracks I have run a Pro Mod car at: Texas Raceway, Texas Motorplex, Houston Raceway Park, Alamo Dragway, Lone Star Raceway (Sealy), Navasota, North Texas Dragway, Abilene, Little River Dragway (Temple), Lake Slip Away (Lena, MS).

I listed ten tracks. Is That enough for you? Probably not! For a list of accomplishments and my best ET and MPH go visit my website and then get back with me! Please feel free to email me if you have any more asinine questions.

Are we having fun yet?

Mr. Hensley--Thats a nice list of tracks and I have been to most of them and I see Little River listed. You ran there and cant do the Navasota track?Three years ago is a lot of races back but I give you that one. I did take time to look at your web page. nice! Kim Smith is a good craftsman and execellent builder so why havent you been able to do better than a all time low et of 441? Now I am not knocking the et or MPH but that was a couple of years ago or so and the fast guys have been at 20's,30's back then. You definately have the motors and now your doing the "new car" and you have a goal of consistently lo-430's and eventually obtain 4.20's with 700+ cuin ( Nice combo)? Now to any one these would be killer times and I would pay to see it but why is your present goal set to what has and is being done for the last couple of years?I would think pro mod drivers in your position would shoot for 4-teens. I bet if your real nice that Frankie would shoe you old ride and get close to your goal at Navasota's old rough slippery track and for a few extra bucks may teach you some driving tips so you can compete any where the TOPMA chooses to run.I know that Galen can make it also as he usually qualifys at every event I have seen but then I cant make them all.Tommy Adams and Pat edwards arnt to bad and make the show also.By the way I will be at the promod show at Navasota next one so I hope I get to meet you. Its not often I get to meet real IHRA professional drivers in your league.-Thanks

The reason I have only run a 4.41 is because it was an older heavy car, steel block 632, and more importantly I run a conservative set up. My intent is not to go broke racing. My wife and I personally finance the entire operation. We also have a lot of other interests and don't feel the need to be the baddest on the block. Our lives are not consumed with drag racing, we do it for fun.

We are also realistic which entails making realistic and accomplishable goals. We don't gauge our accomplishments and set goals based on everyone else. We gauge ourselves based on personal performance and continual improvement.

We also don't feel the need to get big heads and think we are it. We have been fortunate people who have been gifted with being able to grow a drag racing operating over the years into an operation that we are proud of.

I think you need to know that I am not a "real IHRA professional racer". I am not even close to their league. Those guys have deep pockets and put me to shame.

Maybe this has helped put things in a better prospective.

Now your seeing the light--Your not in the pro league as most cars in the TOMPA. OK we forgive you for being not as good as and still by the tickets to see you compete. NOW the original bitch with you guys(before you started a non ending piss fight)Your club(TOPMA) has no right to tell drivers where they can and cant race as thats an individual choice. To tell on a open to the world web page NOT to race "there" because you havent given it your blessing is just plain stupid as hell.It hurts racers and spectators alike.Lucky for Hotrod there was an attempt at making a good show and the turn out was good enought for Clint to take a chance and pay the $6,500 for the next one. Sealy has lost there ass with local promods in case you dont know and its all due to spectator loss.Texas so far is blessed with many race tracks that havent got the Ax due to noise laws but its comming and not to far in the future. You all need to wise up and try to work with all tracks and adjust your demands and build relations or your cars may end up as flower pot holders. To bargan for as much as you can get is fine and thats business but just dont go busting the small tracks ass that cant meet your demands, instead work with them and try to build spectator base.To quote you -I am not a pro and I do it for fun!We are spectators and do it for entertainment so get busy!

I DON'T THINK YOU KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT OUR ASSOCIATION RULES THAT EVERY MEMBER VOTED ON AT THE FIRST OF THE SEASON. WE ALL AGREED THAT WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO RUN FOR LESS THAN CERTAIN AMOUNTS THIS SEASON BECAUSE OF THE COST TO BUILD AND KEEP THESE HOT RODS RUNNING. EVERYONE OF THE MEMBERS HAS SHARED THE BENEFITS OF OUR ASSOCIATION THIS YEAR..WE DO NOT TELL ANYONE WHERE THEY CAN OR CAN'T RUN.. THE RULES OF THE "TOMPA" SAYS IF YOU GO AGAINST THE MAJORITY VOTE. WHICH SETS THE RULES. YOU ARE SUBJECT TO LOSING YOUR MEMBERSHIP WITH US. IF IT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO RUN AT TRACKS THAT DO NOT SUPPORT US AS WE TRY TO WORK WITH AND SUPPORT THEM.. THAN THATS OK WITH THE "TOPMA".. SINCE MOST ALL THE RACES THIS YEAR IS BOOKED IN "TOPMA" EVENTS I WOULD SAY THAT MEMBER IS CUTTING HIS OWN NOSE OFF TO SPITE HIS FACE.WE DO WORK WITH ALL THE TRACK OWNERS, AND THAT MEANS THE LITTLE TRACKS, WHICH IS EVERY TRACK WE RUN AT. I DON'T THINK YOU WILL GET ONE SINGLE TRACK TO SAY THAT I OR ANYONE OF OUR MEMBERS DON'T DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO HELP SUPPORT THEM AND THIER NEEDS. TEN YEARS AGO WE WERE PAID 6500.00 FOR OUR OUTLAW PRO STOCKS TO RUN 1/4 MILE..WHERE THE PERFORMANCES WERE LOW 8'S NOT LOW 4'S WHICH EQUATES TO MID 6'S..AS GRANT HAS SAID GET A PRO MOD AND SEE HOW LITTLE YOU CAN AFFORD TO RUN FOR. IT'S REAL EASY TO BE AN ARM CHAIR QUARTERBACK!!

Mr. hotrod--lucky for you there is a lot of armchair quaterbacks. Where else do you think the $6,500 purse would come from with out us?As stated on another post if you won every race you entered you couldn't pay for your hobby with out sponcers. If your looking to make a living at this you need to go PRO via (IHRA). If you cant support your car with out hijacking tracks build you a backhalf and quit sniveling about how much it cost to run your promod. No one but a fool would build a race car he cant support out of pocket and then bitch about how much it cost.I am well aware of all the expenses involved so dont beat that to death. If your Trouble car is all that good just go pro IHRA where the larger guaranteed money is and clean up!The few guys that had balls enough to run the last race did in fact pave the way for you to get your $6,500 purse. Now these are the guys you want to chastise because they ran out of the TOPMA. If you have a brain cell working you best start talking to your guys and get a reality lesson and praise the ones who came and supported the cause!

I CAN SEE YOU DON'T KNOW A HOOT ABOUT PRO MODS OR WHAT IT TAKES TO RUN THESE CARS. NOW YOU CAN SIT THERE AND TALK ALL THE CRAP YOU WANT. BUT THE TRUTH IS YOUR INFO AND THE LACK OF IT IS TOTALLY OFF BASE. LONG BEFORE MICKEY HAD WHAT HE CALLS HIS QUICK 8 RACES WE RUN TEXAS OUTLAW PRO STOCKS OR AS THEY ARE NOW CALLED PRO MODS..AND WE RACED ALL OVER TEXAS BEFORE NAVASOTA WAS EVER THOUGHT OF. MICKEY GAVE US A NEW PLACE TO RACE AND WE THANK HIM FOR THAT. WHAT THE "TEXAS QUICK 8" RACES TRIED TO PROVIDE WAS SOME ORGANIZATION. THINGS DID NOT WORK OUT. THERE WERE SEVERAL DIFFERENCES OF OPINIONS AND MONEY ISSUES. THIS IS A COMPLETE NEW ASSOCIATION. WE HAVE NEW GOALS AND NEW MEMBERS. WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO DO IS FOR OUR BENEFIT AS WELL AS THE SPECTATORS. THESE CARS ARE ALOT FASTER NOW AND WE REQUIRE BETTER TRACKS AND MORE MONEY TO KEEP THESE CARS QUICK AND SAFE.. YOU DON'T NEED TO TELL US HOW MUCH MICKEY HAS DONE FOR THE PRO MODS. I'LL TELL YOU MICKEY HAS PUT MANY A HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN HIS POCKETS OVER THE YEARS BECAUSE OF THE PRO MODS. SO DON'T GIVE ME THIS ONE SIDED BULL SHIT HOW MICKEY HAS GOTTEN SCREWED BY THE PRO MODS OR OUR "TOPMA".. IF ANY TRACK WANTS A QUALITY SHOW WITH FAST TIMES, THEN PAY THE MONEY AND GIVE US A CONSISTANT GOOD TRACK SURFACE TO RACE ON. IF NAVASOTA DOES'T WANT THE PRO MODS AND IS HAPPY WITH BACK HALF CARS.. THEN SO BE IT!! I AS WELL AS MOST EVERYONE IN THE "TOPMA" THINK THE WORLD OF MICKEY. OUR BUSINESS OF HOW MUCH MONEY WE REQUIRE TO RACE AND THE WAY WE RUN OUR ASSICIATION IS JUST THAT, "OUR BUSINESS"..

Now if your shit isn't fast enough to do this why are you stupid enough to build a car you cant afford to race?To tell the truth there isnt enough money if you won every thing to support your "fast" car with out sponsers and heavy ones.I also know a lot about promods (real ones)and the total expense of owning and operation one.I am also aware of the thiefing asshole you dumb bastards raced for and got screwed out of your money not once but twice. You and Mr Hensley need to team up with all your fast talent and experience and go total pro so we the spectators can witness your achievements with real promod shows.I will definitely buy a ticket to see what both of you can do on a real pro race surface with real actual promods. It is every member's responsibility to make sure that everyone follows the rules and guidelines. This isn't solely Hot Rod's job. NAVASOTA RACEWAY -- CLINT HURST, 13:39:07 08/01/01 Wed

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE RACERS THAT CAME OUT TO NAVASOTA FOR THE QUICK 8. I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT I DID NOT TRY TO STEAL THE ASSOCIATIONS NAME OR RACE. I CALLED IT A PROMOD SHOW QUICK 8 STYLE AND THAT WAS EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS.

IT WAS A RACE PUT TOGETHER WITH SHORT NOTICE BY THE RACERS. I PUT UP THE MONEY AND THEY CAME AND RACE JUST LIKE WE USE TO. I LIKE THE ASSOCIATION,ALL THE GUYS THAT I KNOW THAT ARE IN IT,I GET ALONG WITH, INCLUDING HOT ROD. THEY HAVE THERE RULES, I RESPECT THERE RULES, BUT SATURDAY'S NIGHTS RACE WAS NOT A SANCTIONED TEXAS OUTLAW PROMOD RACE. WE HAD ONE EARLIER, I WAS NOT PLEASED BY THE CROWD TURNOUT, AND WAS SCARED TO DO ANOTHER ONE WITH THE $6500 PAYOUT TILL I HAD A GOOD CROWD TURNOUT.

SATURDAY NIGHTS RACE DID HAVE A GOOD CROWD TURNOUT. THAT I FEEL WILL SUPPORT THE $6500 PAYOUT AND CAN'T WAIT TILL I CAN BOOK ONE.

I AM VERY SORRY THAT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AND WE COULD NOT GET THEM BACK WORKING. I HOPE WE CAN GET A SHOW PUT TOGETHER FOR NEXT TIME REAL SOON. AND INSTEAD OF PUNISHING THE GUYS THAT SHOWED UP TO THE RACE I HOPE EVERYONE REWARDS THEM. CAUSE THEY PAVED THE WAY FOR ANOTHER TRACK TO BE ABLE TO PUT UP $6500 FOR A SHOW.

I WILL AGREE WITH MR. HENSLEY THAT ARE TRACK IS PROBADLY NOT AS SMOOTH AS SOME OF THE OTHER TRACKS. I DO NOT FEEL IT'S UNSAFE. YEAH WE HAVE HAD SOME WRECKS BUT WHAT TRACK HAS'NT. We went to the third round (semi-finals) but the inner liner on one of our slicks came apart and caused one tire to fill up with more air than the other tire. This caused tricky driving conditions for Gaylen. We had a great time. It was just like being at home....hot, humid and great fans routing you on. Thanks for asking.

TBH -- Mrs. TBH, 21:38:04 07/19/01 Thu

We had already committed to going to KCIR (to outrun JR Sandlain) before the Navasota race was confirmed. We hope that Navasota has another race later in the year because we always love to race there. It's like a family reunion when we do go there to race. We won't be racing the "grim reeper" blown street car there because it is not legal to run their program. Thanks.

Second pair out was Scott Herzog and Nathan Martin with Herzog advancing to the semi's with a 4.330 at 169 mph. Third pair out was Pat Edwards and Frankie Taylor with Taylor advancing to the semi's with a 4.160 at 172 mph. Fourth and final pair of round one was Bobby Booth and Matt Jones with Bobby Booth pulling an upset win with a 4.332 but he didn't get a mph because Matt Jones hit the finish line cone which disqualified his run of a 4.350 at 164 mph.

Semi Final Round action paired Scott Herzog and Bobby Booth but Booth was unable to make the next round so Scott just drove the car through on a competition bye run saving his car for the final round. The other pair of semi finalists was Gaylen Smith and Frankie Taylor. Smith got the holeshot but was unable to hold off the hard charging "mad man" as he went through the clocks with a 4.135 at 172 mph while Smith was out of shape with a 4.513 at only 130 mph.

The final round action was Scott Herzog and Frankie Taylor. When the amber's lit up, both cars left pretty close together as Herzog hot a slight starting line advantage but was unable to hold off the "mad man" Frankie Taylor as he stopped the clocks with a 4.195 at 172 mph to a losing 4.350 at 162 mph for Herzog. Congratulations to Frankie and all of the Taylor racing team for another victory! The next race at Kennedale will be Friday, August 10th.

This happened in Nicole's dragster and Earl was testing a motor that they got from a friend and during the run the cap blew off and sprayed Earl with alcohol and the headers are to blame for the fire . He was life flighted to a burn unit in L.A. and Nicole is going to call me tonight when things sorta settle down a bit so I will keep everyone posted on whats going on . Earl has been chasing Top Sportsman points and was scheduled to be in Sealy this weekend . I'm sure he will be missed and I think I speak for everyone when I say I hope he has a very speedy recovery !! earl folse...friday at baton rouge la's super ten race -- eddie....racepics.net, 01:49:52 07/08/01 Sun

earl was brought to a baton rouge burn unit friday afternoon

i dont have 100% of the details....but this is how important saftey equipment is..

earl purchased a rail for his wife(think her name is nancy)
any how they put in a friends engine so that earl could get a feel for the car and make sure the chassis is all right before nancy starts driving it... well a fuel line came loose and sprayed earl with alcohol real bad...the alcohol ignited and he pulled over to the side of the track around the 330 mark..at first glance it just appeared to be a malfunction till he started rolling and patting him self...remember alky leaves no flames..

good news is that BECAUSE of the required gloves jacket and pants...he only got burnt on the hands and where the helmet was opened at...he was flown out by helicopter to a burn unit to make sure the fumes didnt cause any damages

Can we do a roll call on the message board to see who all is going to be at Sealy this weekend? Glen would like to have a ballpark number of cars that will be there.

The Texas Bounty Hunter will be there.

Noble, Oklahoma -- Celeste (Mrs. TBH), 14:00:15 06/25/01 Mon

We were approached this weekend by the track manager of Noble, Oklahoma about a "Texas Outlaw Pro Mod Association" race in August. It will be a one day 1/4 mile race with a $10,000 purse ($3,000 W; $2,000 RU; $1,000 Semi; $650 Qualify; $200 #9 & 10) They are wanting the date of Aug 4th (which is on the schedule for Denton but Chuck Bishop told me he wasn't going to have another race there until he fixed the right lane.) What does everybody think about this and would you be interested in coming? Remember, you will need to have the necessary safety equipment and you will need the appropriate licence.

If you would rather e-mail me instead of posting on the board, I have included my e-mail address at the top of the post. Please give me feedback so we can call Marsha back and let her know if we will be there.

Just bought a Vanishing Point Race Cars 63 vette to try and
have a good chassis to hopefully put enough power to run with the big boys of the association. Will still be running the old combination for a few weeks till we get another new and bigger motor ready. The big question is nitrous or blower? give me some feedback.

[> Re: New Car!!! -- Celeste (Mrs. TBH), 10:14:02 06/06/01 Wed

To each his own! I guess it depends on how deep your pockets are. We used to run a nitrous motor but in order to stay competitive, we had to find some more horsepower at a reduced cost. We have found a combination with the blower motor for a lot less than you could spend on a competitive nitrous motor.

Kennedale's Results -- Celeste (Mrs. TBH), 13:02:13 06/09/01 Sat

#1 = Bobby Booth in his 37 Chevy coupe
#2 = Frankie "Mad Man" Taylor in his 2000 Pontiac TA
#3 = James Satterwhite in his 1969 Camaro
#4 = Matt Jones in his 1963 Corvette
#5 = Chuck Bishop in his 1969 Chevelle
#6 = Rodney Parks in his 1990 Camaro
#7 = Kim Barr in his 1991 Beretta
#8 = Marty Neely in his 1981 Camaro

Other driver's on hand that didn't make the show were Elijah "Thriller" Byrdson, Alvis Sneed, Chuck Poindexter, Tommy Adams and Gaylen Smith.

First round competition paired Bobby Booth with Marty Neely. Bobby advanced to the semi-finals with a 4.23 at 164 mph. The second pair out was Frankie Taylor and Kim Barr. Taylor advances to the semi's with a competition bye-run of 4.18 at 168 mph. (He was going for lane choice). Kim Barr broke on the starting line and had to be backed off. The third pair out was James Satterwhite and Rodney Parks. Satterwhite advances to the semi's with a 4.40 at 156 mph and the fourth and final pair was Matt Jones and Chuck Bishop. Bishop had to shut off on the starting line and gave Matt Jones a competition bye run and he just coasted on through saving the motor with a 7.33 at 93 mph.

Semi-final round action paired Bobby Booth and Matt Jones. Matt pulled off an upset win defeating the #1 qualifier with a 4.29 at 164 mph. The second pair was Frankie Taylor and James Satterwhite. Frankie advances to the final round with a "low e.t." of the meet 4.16 at 169 mph while Satterwhite had to shut off due to immediate tire shake.

Final round was Frankie "Mad Man" Taylor and Matt Jones. Both cars took off as Mad Man got a slight starting line advantage over Matt Jones but he wasn't going to be able to use that to his advantage as the motor let go and Matt Jones cruised by and takes the win with a 4.65 at only 135 mph.

I don't have exact E.T.'s but I know the qualifying order and some of the E.T.'s. Here it goes...

#1 Frankie Taylor 4.35
#2 Gaylen Smith 4.45
#3 Terry Murphy 4.46
#4 Scott Herzog 4.56 (?)
#5 Butch Lake 4.67 (?)
#6 James Satterwhite 4.69
#7 Keith Farris 4.80 (?)
#8 Pat Edwards 4.82 (?)

Semi finalists were Frankie Taylor (4.35) & Butch Lake, Gaylen Smith (4.37)& Terry Murphy.

Final round was Frankie Taylor and Gaylen Smith. Taylor broke the rearend housing and Smith won with a competition bye run. This race was dedicated to Big Jim Brooks in hopes that he recovers and gets back with his drag racing family soon.

Is there anywhere the rules are written and how do I get a copy?

Specific question for now:
Throughout the 2000 season, all cars running as "Outlaw Pro Mod" were required to have a full tube chassis. For the final 2000 race at Denton, several back half cars were allowed to run Pro Mod.

What is the specific rule regarding whether back half cars can run as Pro Mods?

EACH TRACK TECHS THE CARS. ALL TRACKS ENFORCE THE RULES WE RACE BY. OUR RULES ARE PRETTY CUT AND DRIED.. IF A PROBLEM ACCURS THAT HAS NOT BEEN PRESENTED IN THE PAST.. THE TRACK MAKES THE CALL ON THE WAY IT WILL BE HANDLED FOR THAT ONE RACE.. TOPM WILL THE PUT THE PROBLEM TO A VOTE AND FIGURE OUT HOW THE RULING WILL BE HANDLED AT ALL FUTURE TOPM RACES..

What is the entry fee for pro-mod? Do you have to join the pro-mod association,if so what is the fee, or can you pay at each event? What is the payout at the upcoming Denton race?

There is no Entry Fee at Denton and the Pay Out is $9400 - $3000/Winner, $2000/RU, $1000/Semis, $600/1/4's. As far as being a member of the Association, I don't know but will find out.

I DECIDED TO GO A NEW DIRECTION THIS SEASON.. I MADE THE GOAL I SET OUT TO DO WITH THE "TROUBLE" CAR.. HAD A LOT OF FUN WITH EVERYONE ON THE TEAM.. THEY NOW HAVE ONE OF THE FASTEST NITROUS CARS IN THE OUTLAW PRO MODS. THEIR TEAM WILL BE A THREAT TO ANY ONE THAT RACES THEM.."TROUBLE" STILL HAS ONE OF THE FINEST DRIVERS I HAVE EVER KNOWN!! FOR THAT REASON ALONE, I WILL ALWAYS BE WORRIED WHEN WE PULL UP BESIDE BUTCH LAKE..I HAVE SEEN THE TIMES WHEN "TROUBLE" WOULD'NT BE IN ONE PIECE IF NOT FOR BUTCH!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE "TROUBLE" TEAM........

[> [> What are you talking about? -- Grant, 09:14:02 03/12/01 Mon

Who did Hutch screw? Were racers short paid? If you are simply complaining about the payout, don't say the racers got screwed. It would be much better stated if you said the racers are screwing themselves again. Hutch has no intentions or incentives to pay more if racers will continue to go race at his track for less. Hopefully people just wanted to test because it is early in the season. I hope it won't be the norm. As for results, Randy Merrick Winner and Gaylen Smith Runner-up. Congrats to Randy and Gaylen.

Kennadale needs to switch it back to Friday nights or not have it at all and not a Friday and Saturday deal either!!. Nice to have one day with the family and still enjoy a watching a sport. I know that it is early in the season, but really not looking forward too watching bracket racing in between rounds.(No offense, just not my interest) I prefer heads up racing. Real bummer to see TBH down Saturday night. True sportsman ship by the mad man helping out TBH, that was cool and respectful!! - Pro Mod fan

NHRA BIRTHDAY RACE AT KENNEDALE -- promodfan, 13:02:51 03/08/01 Thu

This is from TXR web site. It is not an NHRA event but it was in part a celebration in NHRA's honor. I just figured with so many upset people about Hutch dropping NHRA, he may not get the crowed he was anticipating, therefore decreasing the payout. Something to check into before you make the trip all the way up and pay for hotel rooms for a night or two.

NO ONE GIVES A HOOT IF THE TRACK IS NHRA OR IHRA OR NOHRA.. THE FANS GO TO SEE THE PRO MODS AND RACE EVENTS IN GENERAL. KENNEDALE DOES'T HOLD ANY KIND OF NHRA EVENTS ANYHOW. MAYBE A BRACKET RACE EVENT FOR THE BRACKET RACERS.. THEY NEED LOVE TOO.. QUIT TRYING TO ASSUME WHAT IS IN OTHER PEOPLES MINDS. WE ARE GOING TO THE RACE REGARDLESS
