IHRA FINALS -- BADOLDS, 18:08:20 10/05/01 Fri

I was wondering if any of the Texas cars were going to Shreveport for the upcoming race. Frankie went last year and qualified so we were hoping to see him and hopefully some other local cars there. This will be my first time at a national IHRA event, I hope the big boys put on as good of a show as yall do.

[> [> Directions -- Mrs. TBH, 09:53:13 10/05/01 Fri

I-20 West to exit 287. Turn left and down about a 1/4 mile and you'll see the airport off to the left. Turn left under the bridge and then an immediate right into the airfield. There should be someone there instructing you where to go. I think there is a website mentioned in the posts below with more accurate directions too.

Not sure about the weekend for TBH - :( -- Mrs. TBH, 09:54:10 10/02/01 Tue

We were checking the bearings last night and noticed the crank was cracked (hence the oil pressure problems at Navasota). Gaylen is trying to gather stuff up so we can make it this weekend, but not sure at this time. We are 90% sure we will make it but that 10% will get ya every time (right Conley? **LOL**) If we don't make it this weekend, good luck to everyone but don't count us out until it's time to qualify and we are not in the staging lanes!

Are your ready?......Friday night...Kennedale's big money blowout Pro Mod challenge qualifying. Eliminations are on Saturday night at 6:30 pm. Also, Abilene will have qualifying Saturday afternoon (12:00 and 2:00 - this gives you time to get back to Kennedale if your qualified there) for everyone and eliminations on Sunday. I-20 between Kennedale and Abilene will be hot this weekend.....

[> [> Kennedale Race -- Mrs. TBH, 09:34:32 10/02/01 Tue

Yes, John you heard (or read) correctly. Kennedale is qualifying 16 cars. Payout is as follows: $500 Qualify, $750 Quarters, $1,000 Semi, $2,000 Runner-Up and $5,000 Win. This should equal out to a $16,000 total purse. The air ought to be good and the bump ought to be fast...... You must be here Friday night to qualify. No qualifying on Saturday, only eliminations which start promptly at 6:30 PM. There is also a TOPMA 8 car race scheduled in Abilene this weekend too. Qualifying at 12:00 and 2:00 on Saturday (this gives you time to get back to Kennedale if you are qualified there) and eliminations on Sunday.

Rear End Ratio -- Mrs. TBH, 20:19:49 10/01/01 Mon

We currently run a 456 gear and we do not change gears to run the 1/4 mile. We would like to run a lower gear in the 1/8 mile but it makes the car too aggressive and it's harder to get down the track because a hemi makes so much torque. (Besides that you can't get a 9 1/2" 471 ring gear like we run and the regular 9" ring gear doesn't even last 5 passes for us.)

[> Get your info straight. on Abilene race -- Tom Dupree, 17:48:06 09/30/01 Sun

Mr. Racer (since you did not give your name):
you have been misinformed. Let me set the the record straight. On my flyer, it does say that there is a $75 entry fee, but that is to keep the wanna-be's out. As you know, there are always some people that show up to a promod race and enter just to get in free.
I do not charge topma members or any other serious promods an entry fee for this race. I am sorry that you did not get the info on this sooner and I hope that you will reconsider being a part of our show. (By the way, 100% of our proceeds go to several different charities. I'm sure that Kennedale's do not.) If you have any other questions, you can contact me at my email address sg4081@cs.com.

[> [> [> Crew members -- Tom Dupree, 15:06:02 10/01/01 Mon

O.K guys, let me make this crystal clear. My show is run just like any other topma show that you go to. I don't charge the crew members or the racers a thing for being part of our show. I am sorry that you did not get all your info the first time that I posted on this site months ago, but I hope that we have everything straight now. If you are still worried about making the trip, just talk to Gaylen Smith, Matt Jones, Scott Hertzog, Bobby Booth, or any of the other guys that attended our show last year. I guarantee that you will not find a race that caters to the racer more than ours. Once again I hope that this answers all your questions.
Thank you Tom Dupree

Navasota Results -- Mrs. TBH, 08:15:14 10/01/01 Mon

I copied some of this off of Navasota's board...

Another night of the wild promod action has ended with one more super show. In the semi round FRANKIE (MADMAN)TAYlOR sets a new NAVASOTA RACEWAY track record of 4.193 @ 168.59.His race was with SHAWN DAVIS out of Lake Charles LA. who ran a 4.572 @ 148.17 on a new motor and combination.
Gaylen Smith was paired with Scott Herzog and in this round Gaylen Smith laid down an off paced 4.512 @ 130.28 to Herzog's 9.682 @ 80.77 who shut down early. The final round found Gaylen Smith crew versus Frankie Taylor crew. Frankie Taylor took the win with a 4.351 @ 135.82 to Gaylen Smith's 4.588 @ 122.83 (Both cars having to shut off early)

Here is the complete qualifying roster:
1= Frankie Taylor 4.298
2= Scott Herzog 4.324
3= Gaylen Smith 4.336
4= Pat Edwards 4.515
5= Shawn Davis 4.557
6= Thomas Myers 4.700
7= Tommy Adams 4.716
8= Brian Doss 4.929
First Alternate=Doug Riesterer 4.946

Other cars on hand that did not make the show were:

David Hugo, Conrad Ignasiak, Robert Smith, Joe Baldibino, Perry Dunn, Kirk Williams, James Satterwhite, Bobby Booth, Greg Green, Dennis Rogers, Butch Lake, and ??. (Sorry but I'm doing this from memory and I know I'm leaving one guy out possibly two.)

There was a total of 21 Pro Mod teams trying to make the top 8 field. You couldn't have asked for better weather to race a pro mod either. Nice and cool and the humidity didn't set in until the semi-final round.

Replies:

[> BALDIBINO -- BADOLDS, 11:36:37 10/01/01 Mon

I COULD HAVE SWORN THAT BALDIBINO RAN A 4.31 IN QUALIFYING, DID THIS PASS NOT COUNT FOR SOME REASON?

[Edit]

[> [> Baldibino -- Mrs. TBH, 14:57:15 10/01/01 Mon

We were told by the track officials that he left before the tree was activated, but his rear tires caught the beam just as the tree was activated (he didn't even register a reaction time) and that is how he received the 4.31. This time didn't count. I also heard that he didn't do very well on the second pass so therefore, he was not in the show. He did however make a check out pass right before 1st round and he ran a 4.67.

Abilene Race -- Tom Dupree, 17:53:54 09/21/01 Fri

It was brought to my attemtion that kennedale has turned their Oct. 5th race into a two day event. This presented a problem since our race is Oct.6-7. I have been in contact with Larry Croft at Texas Raceway and rather than compete against each other, we will work together. Kennedale qualifies Friday night. Those that do not make the show are more than welcome to come here and qualify on Sat.and race on Sun.

Those that do qualify at Kennedale can still make our show. It is just two hours drive to Abilene and we are not going to start qualifing until noon or 1. That leaves you plenty of time to get back to Kennedale for their show. On Sun., your first pass will be at 1pm so that you would have plenty of time to get back here. The other rounds will be at 3pm and 5pm. I hope this is not to confusing. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at sg4081@cs.com.

Here are some directions to get to the track and the motels. From I-20, take exit 290. Turn left at overpass. Go 2-3 miles,take airport exit. Turn left at overpass, then immediately turn right. Follow signs to race entrance.

For motels take exit 288 off of I-20. Ramada Inn phone #915-673-5271.

I would like to get a head count of how many of you are going to come, and also if there is anything else I can better do to help you guys.

Thank you so much, Tom Dupree
P.S. The winner of the Pro Mod show will get to match a jet dragster. I am paying extra cash for this whether you win or lose!!!

attack on America -- John Conley, 20:27:09 09/12/01 Wed

We should immediately declare War on all terrorists and nations that harbor them.When Pearl Harbor occured we declared WAR in one day!We must send a message to the terrorists of the world that it will not be tolerated and will be dealt with harshly and swiftly.And not tolerated inside the borders of America.The old saying that when you run from a bully it is hard to stop,is true.This is a pivotal point in american history,will we fight terrorism or give it free rein in our country?We can either fight or allow this kind of evil acts to become a way of life!We cannot and must not allow this to go unpunished!! The real heroes of sept 11,2001 were the brave people that fought the terrorists for control of the plane and made it crash in a field rather than let it hit another target.That to me is true courage and honor.They faced death with the courage we only hope we could if we faced what they did.Hopefully they will be recoginized as such.

Gotta say "GOOD JOB" to Thomas, Richard, Brandon and crew. They were at Indy gettinit on with the heavy hitters in the Pro Mod world! After reportedly (I heard this-not fact) hurting a motor in early qualifying rounds they went from not qualified, backs against the wall, to the #2 qualifier with a 6.21. Fred Hahn set a new record @ 6.17?? 227 MPH ?? (double check me on the numbers!) In first round of elims, SummitRacing.com reported that Patterson's car spun out of the gates. He ran a better ET, but the holeshot put them out. All I can say is - AT LEAST YA'LL WERE THERE, we had to just keep dreaming about it and watching the tube! Great job, your Texas buddies are always rooting you on (so long as your out on the NHRA/IHRA trail - LOL!)

NitroSim.com's Own Brian Willson Reviews Moto1's NHRA Main Event -- Gary Stroud, 11:03:09 08/31/01 Fri

NitroSim.com
www.nitrosim.com

NHRA Drag Racing Main Event Takes Sim-Drag Racing to Another Level

Courtesy of Brian Willson

Hardcore sim-drag racers will tell you that it takes a lot to impress them. Well, in my opinion, after experiencing NHRA Drag Racing Main Event for the first time, they will definitely be impressed. For the uninitiated, NHRA Main Event actually consists of two products: the much anticipated NHRA Pro Stock and Pro Stock Truck as well as NHRA Gold, which is an updated version of NHRA Drag Racing 2. Being that NHRA Gold is more of a graphical update from the standpoint of paint schemes and some tweaks to the underlying software engine, this review will focus more on the aspects of NHRA Pro Stock and Pro Stock Truck.

Having been around the NHRA series of games from the start, I have been fortunate enough to witness their progression first hand, and NHRA Main Event is another positive step in the right direction. The graphics continue to improve (although they were never considered bad to begin with). The Pro Stock cars and trucks are impressive, and even though they could be considered slightly “boxy” in the front-end department, they are still a vast improvement over any other related product on the market. The user interface continues to have a nice clean look. Moto1 has subscribed to the “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” theory and left the navigation through the user interface virtually untouched, which in my opinion, was a great idea. This allows for the veteran users of their product to keep the learning curve to a minimum and focus on the more important things at hand like trying to find that extra hundredth to keep the competition at bay.

The sound quality continues the tradition of NHRA Drag Racing 2. You can almost hear the fuel pump as the 500 cubic inch motor tries to turn over. As you sit at the starting line, the motor screaming at 8,000 RPM, you can feel the rush as you release the line-loc and try to hit your shift points. If you’re like me, you will catch yourself pushing back in the seat at each shift. If that’s not enough, you have to try and concentrate on keeping your ride in the middle of the lane, as these machines are not very forgiving and one slip will having you seeing a lot of the retaining wall.

My first impressions of NHRA Main Event are that Moto1 has done a great job in continuing to lead the pack in drag racing simulations. Short of owning your own Top Fuel Dragster, Nitro Funny Car, or Pro Stock car or truck, NHRA Main Event is probably the closest to the real thing you will experience; now if they could only figure out a way to pump in the smells…but that’s another story for another day. Even if you consider yourself merely a casual fan of drag racing, NHRA Drag Racing Main Event is a must-have for your collection.

For info on joining this community please email me ill do all I can for you to get ya up to speed.

I just wanted to add that the track was working last night. Gaylen had a 1.00 sixty foot and Frankie had 1.01 sixty foots. If you missed this show, you missed a good one.

Pro Mods in Navasota... -- racer/fan, 22:20:26 08/22/01 Wed

I was just wondering about the Pro Mod show you are having this weekend. Will there be "real" Pro Mods or cars like the two powerglide cars advertised on HotRodChat. Just curious... Before we get there, we would like to know what kind of cars we will be seeing at $15.00 / head.

I remember when we used to see Frankie Taylor, Gaylen Smith, Pat Edwards, Jimmy Freeman, James Satterwhite and many more. These cars are worth the money - will any of these guys be there?

I normally do not talk like that,that is why I used cartoon language and not the real words.I apologize for my rash statement.But on the other hand it galls me to hear anyone complain about a lousy $15 to see a PRO MOD whether powerglide or lenco.I have appox 300,000.00 invested in my "powerglide" so I take offense to a supposed fan bitchin about "powerglide" cars.Between the rig and the race car and crew it takes alot of money to run these cars regardless of tranny.So the "fan" should be thankful that a racer is willing to come to there local track and run there $300,000.00 investment for the "fans" entertainment.Because there is virutally no return on investment except good fun and friends.So do the right thing "fan" apoligize and enjoy the show no matter what the tranny!!

Welcome to the family, Doug. Please make a point to stop by our trailer at Navasota sometime on Saturday. I write all of the updates on the board and I publish some articles in the Kennedale paper and I like to know who I'm writing about. You can find me at the Texas Bounty Hunter trailer. Thanks and good luck.

Looking for someone interested in new project. -- Jeff Moss, 19:55:40 08/24/01 Fri

I have a 25-1C backhalf car built for heads up Pro or Outlaw street competition. I have no sponsor so all money is out of pocket. I am looking for someone interested in teaming up and going racing. This chassis will certify to 7.49 and quicker. All chassis components are top of the line. No expense was spared. This car with the right bullit will be hard to beat. Set up for Lenco and clutch.
Anyone seriously interested in this project; please call me at 214-287-6698 days and 972-286-3398 eves. thanks

Sealy's Pro Mod Championship has been rescheduled!! -- Mrs. TBH, 16:44:01 08/16/01 Thu

I copied this off of Lonestar Raceway's web site. Mark your calendars.

TEXAS STATE PRO MOD CHAMPIONSHIP MOVED TO OCTOBER 19 & 20                                                                                                                                                         Due to the addition of the 2nd IHRA Divisional, the Pro Mod State Championship has been rescheduled to October 19 & 20.  This actually is a win-win deal.  The temperature will be a little cooler - excellent for faster runs and it’s the last chance to see the Pro Mods for 2001! Mark your calendar now, because you won’t want to miss the Texas State Pro Mod Championship - October 19 and 20th
