According to the Physical Plant blueprints for Pierpont there were no rooms in the basement facing the courtyard either on sunset or dark sides. If you remember when in the courtyard walking into the main entrance... you were at ground level.

The rooms on the dark side facing the outside were... starting at the basement "lobby" were 28-44. 28 is down as a linen room... and 44 luggage... ie storage. Since I was only down there to do laundry... I don't remember much about people living down there. As for art I'm assuming it's directly proportional to the amount of people wanting to do art... and protect it from the occasional repainting by the Physical Plant.
