You couldn’t be more right, Mark. -- Michael Rice, 12:51:44 06/10/04 Thu
Everyone needs to experience DC at least once; I have been fortunate to visit there a few times. IMHO, the Lincoln Memorial was the most impressive. When I was twelve years old or so, I toured the Air & Space museum (Smithsonian) which was so cool. I’ve always wanted to go back to see the Natural History Museum. Once 15 years or so ago, I had a layover in DC and jumped in a taxi for a quick early morning 2 hour tour of the mall. This was my first visit to the Vietnam Memorial. It was an experience that touched me greatly and humbles me still today.
I believe that actually visiting these monuments caused me to have a greater national perspective. It wouldn’t hurt me to be reminded of periodically.
Shellie, please relate your experiences when you get back.
Michael

Landmarks -- Mark Mears, 17:32:59 06/10/04 Thu
The Lincoln Memorial was my favorite also. I don't wax poetic very often, but just standing within it touches your soul. We tried to make all of the museums while we were there. If any of you remember me very well from school, you know the Air and Space Museum was my favorite. My poor wife and kids practically had to drag me out of the place!
They were just finishing the Reagan Building when I was there. Considering this week, that is very special too. His death brings home the important times we have all lived through.

Re: Off to Washington DC -- Robin, 18:14:35 06/10/04 Thu
My first (and only) visit to Washington DC was just this last February and it would take weeks to get to see everything. And it is an awesome feeling to be where so much history has taken place. I was also impressed with the Lincoln Monument but I think the Arlington Cemetery ranks right up there too. I did visit the Air & Space museum also and it took almost all day. Of course I had to go to the Postal Museum too! :) I would love to go back when it is warm as it was extremely cold when I was there.

Yes I am! 20 yrs July 2 -- Mark Mears, 16:25:49 06/11/04 Fri
Yes, I am still with TPD. Twenty years July 2. Feeling old! I'm one of the dinosaurs I used to say should retire so that I could get some seniority.
I've been working Sex Crimes for the last four years, Domestic Violence three years before that, and prior to that I worked the field for years. I still plan to go back to the field. I love what I'm doing now, but you have more fun in a patrol car.
Lunch sounds great. Just got this on Friday, so sometime next week. I'll call you. 596-9157
