Subject: Good to know Claire wasn't the only physician of the time (relatively speaking) with sense. Thoracic surgery would surely have killed him given the circumstances. I've had a few procedures done without anesthesia - getting my wrist stitched with no pharmaceutical assistance inthe 4th grade was quite memorable - and what he had to endure was unimaginable.

  • YIKES! Why the heck didn't your surgeon use something to numb you before stitching? When my last son was born the doctor started stitching me up without numbing me first. He did the first three stitches before I began to protest loudly. Since Casey had been born before the doctor arrived, and he was used to numbing the area before the birth, he simply forgot I hadn't had anything, and apologized. Even 40 or more years ago, anyone who would stitch without giving a child something first, sounds like a monster! (NT) -- Jane, 06:13:23 01/28/08 Mon
