Subject: I've been away for ages. So pleased to see you quoting Jane. I love the similes used here - such contrasting images but beautifully capturing the expression of feeling.

  • I do love this crocus image here, and it works so well paired with the "bursting of a mortar shell." Contrasting yes, but both are quite, well, masculine in spite of the fact that the crocus is a flower...! I do love how she gets inside John's head and lets us see Stephan through his eyes. Wouldn't it be a treat to have a glimpse of John from Stephan's POV?? I have a feeling it could be quite powerful, like the occasional moments where we "hear" Jamie looking at Claire. But what about this idea that there's "no madness...no yearning?" IMO, it could be a way of showing there's more than one way to fall in love... And I think he's kidding himself about the yearning. He's definitely yearning. Thanks for keeping this board going, Jane - great job!! (NT) -- pamelalass, 07:18:57 02/18/08 Mon

  • I do think herself is showing us there are many many ways to fall in love. I enjoy watching the gently getting to know you, discovering shared passions, way of falling in love over the course of time, just as much. Not every love has to be a gut gripping, no holds barred, loss of one's self to be a true love. People are different. Situations are different. Love often changes over the years too. Thanks Pamela!
