John is polished with elegant manners but he is a soldier and very comfortable with violence. This story really reinforces John as a protector literally from beginning to end. I am always enjoy the sensuality of John's life. He enjoys the natural world around him and appreciates beauty where ever he finds it. I was glad he got to enjoy two weeks in the wild with Manoke. I am in the middle of reading Custom, and just finished up the bit where Joh has returned from his 2 weeks hunting, etc., with Manoke. I know it's a short story but I sure wish we could have had more time with them.
