Subject: Oleander - it does make sense. That's why there is implied threat when John asks Jamie about Jacobite connexions. Jamie is still John's prisoner. He has an inherent, genetic distrust of the English anyway, and here is a man with power over his freedom such as it is who is a confessed sodomite who wants him. How is Jamie to know for sure what sort of man John is? He was lulled into complacency at Ardsmuir by dinner conversations and chess games and then brought back to the reality of his position in a big way. As we learn in ABOSAA he still didn't trust John completely before he left Helwater. He offered his body to see if John would take him up on it in exchange for seeing to Willie's upbringing and education. That John refuses puts it all together for him and their friendship and mutual regard can really grow from that point on.
In reply to: Oleander 's message, "I agree in a sense- I think that the power play overtones in their relationship, at this point, affect how Jaime sees John and his lifestyle. I do think that while not commonly acceptable or condoned, people *knew* that it happened, that this would go on. To find himself subject to the whims of a man who feels this way for him, who has ultimate power over his fate, in conjunction with the trauma inflicted by BJR, I think would explain quite a bit of Jaime's feelings. SOrry if that made no sense- bad head cold=minimal brain power :)" on 09:18:00 11/20/07 Tue
