Subject: Kinship, yes, but Jamie had also pointed out that Percy was kin by law, not by blood. For him there was a difference, and he asked if LJG felt further obligation to Percy, either kindness or, as LJG interpreted it, familial love--neither of those was enough for him to give up his honor. I think it really boils down to that last line of the quote. LJG has accepted his sexuality and his place in society. I think that he feels that his personal honor, his sense of justice, honesty, and fair play, are what define him as a gentleman, a son, a brother, a soldier, a lover... and he can't betray that.
In reply to: kgp 's message, "It comes down to kinship, which was the motivation for Longstreet in yesterday's quote, and personal honesty, being able to live with your own sense of honor intact." on 05:16:34 10/26/07 Fri
