Yes Karen, I saw the thread, but what kind of snow fall is chisping. Please bear with me here, it's just that in Finnish there are lots of of words for snow and each have a bit different meaning. I gather chisping means seeing some dry flakes dancing in the air in a dry freezing day. -- LJG Discussion board

Well, my impression (based solely on the description in the book, so I might be wrong) is that it's a very very light snow, that would be called "drizzle" if it was raining. The sort of precipitation that can't decide whether it wants to be rain or snow. (We get that a lot here in Raleigh, NC, so it made perfect sense to me.) I don't believe it's the kind of snow that sticks to the ground, though. Again, this is all just my speculation based on what's written in that brief description in the book.   - I've never heard of chisping before and when I googled it, I got to the Compuserve link, which was very interesting. DG says it was used by her grandfather or great grandfather, I can't remember which. It put me in mind of my beloved grandfather who died many years ago, he used some odd words and phrases to entertain me, some of which he had made up himself. It made me wonder if this was such a word, I've looked in all my dictionaries and it isn't anywhere to be found. Interestingly, on the same Compuserve link, someone asks about drawing pins, I didn't think there would be any difficulty with this word, as it is all I call the things, round, metal with a short but very sharp point, for pinning paper items to walls or boards.
