Subject: Jamie's hostility was what I expected. The ride to Helwater is one of those scenes that stuck with me. A journey of several days, nights in the same inn room, and Jamie never speaks a word to John because he is seething with rage and hatred. Not only has John separated him from his men, Jamie thinks John has willingly put him into slavery in a place where John can watch his humiliation. going long>>>>
In reply to: tlk2vicki 's message, "Another interesting discussion down the page about the difference in tone and attitude between John and Jamie in Voyager and BOTB. It was running off the screen, so I thought I'd add my remarks up here. I wonder if Jamie sounds more hostile in BOTB because this is written from Lord John's point of view? Voyager was written from Jamie's POV, wouldn't you say? We all perceive specific events quite differently based on our individual history and emotions." on 06:15:26 09/10/07 Mon

Then John has the nerve to come and ask a favor? And not just any favor, but one which could be a trick to get evidence of Jamie's treasonous activities and thus result in not only Jamie's execution but the possible annihilation of Lallybroch and anyone else named by Jamie. Of course, Jamie know the Grey men are honorable, but it still surprised me that he did write to John, even in code. I think it must have taken several years of living a relatively calm life without being responsible for anyone else before Jamie could realize that hate and the lust for revenge, against BJR and all other English, would eventually destroy him if he didn't find a way to let go and forgive.
