Subject: I too love how much more fleshed out LJ is after this book. I love witnessing his comraderie with the other soldiers here, and his descriptions of soldier life. The sense of belonging and acceptance he feels when he is with these men really gives insight into how lonley and misunderstood he must feel most of the time. As a soldier he can enjoy much more intimate friendship and knowledge of other men without scrutiny (and by intimate I mean the intimacy that comes with soldiering together).
In reply to: Conmama 's message, "I'm as enthralled with John's every little movement, just like I am Jamie's. He makes my heart go pitter-patter! Now, that it's been a few weeks since I've read BOTB, I might have to go back for a reread. My head was swimming after the first one because John just didn't seem like the John I love. Well, I've come to the conclusion that he wasn't....YET. He was much younger, and hadn't matured into the LJ of DOA. I think I've come to terms with many aspects of his character and this book. I believe if I went back for a reread, I would find it much richer and even more enjoyable. I like how he says, "hoy". Reminds me of Bridget in BJD when she was trying to quiet the audience. Again, I love seeing *John the soldier*, just brings a new dimension to him." on 10:01:43 10/16/07 Tue

  • Me too! His physical bravery and heroism, and sense of duty, are wonderful additions to the other accomplishments I was more familiar with, when we see him later in life. I also like how frequently DG added details and gestures that show his finesse with a blade, too! (NT) -- pamelalass, 11:00:24 10/16/07 Tue
