Author: Oleander
Subject: I chalked the difference in tone up to a few things. A) it is from John's perspective and B) in Voyager Jaime's time at Helwater is given in condensed snippets which cover a 5-7 year span (correct me if I am wrong). With the LJ books, Dianna can explore in much more detail how there relationship played out and repaired itsself. And while that last scene was extremely intense, maybe John did get his point accross- that he does not desire Jaime's body in order to commit depraved acts, but that he is capable of love, and that he has loved other men.
In reply to: tlk2vicki 's message, "Another interesting discussion down the page about the difference in tone and attitude between John and Jamie in Voyager and BOTB. It was running off the screen, so I thought I'd add my remarks up here. I wonder if Jamie sounds more hostile in BOTB because this is written from Lord John's point of view? Voyager was written from Jamie's POV, wouldn't you say? We all perceive specific events quite differently based on our individual history and emotions." on 06:15:26 09/10/07 Mon

  • Actually, I think the difference in tone is the more than a decade time in which the stories were written. I think that she's just expanded on LJG, with a new twist to the story. But, if our imaginations are too run wild, I agree with Oleander's analysis. (NT) -- Conmama, 06:50:56 09/10/07 Mon

  • LMAO! I am the queen of imaginations run wild....and the fact that I need help because to me, these are real people! Otherwise, I agree there is a huge time gap in the writing of this story. I still hold to the fact that the LJ books give Diana a much bigger canvas to "paint" on (NT) -- Oleander, 07:31:56 09/10/07 Mon
