Subject: Lots of good points there. I would add one more: I thought it was pretty clearly stated in VOYAGER that one reason Jamie took the flogging at Ardsmuir was to put an end to his relationship with Lord John, in a way that was so complete, so irrevocable, that they would never be able to resume any sort of friendship. And yet here John is, just a couple of years later, making overtures of friendship (or at least asking his advice). Jamie can't very well say to his face, "Go away and leave me alone", but his whole attitude, even his body language around John, makes it abundantly clear that that's what he is thinking.
