In reply to: GwenM 's message, "Do you notice, 'though, that she slams the gay sex - says if it were written about a man/woman relationship, it would be called chick-lit. What is the reviewer saying here? That the reviewer believes that gay sex is different then heteorsexual sex?" on 13:36:14 09/17/07 Mon

Having read a fair number of Romances (both Really Good and Awfully Terrible), I can say that Diana does not write Chick Lit or what? Poof Lit? Maybe this reviewer has only read certain types of authors for whom the sex act is just that: an act, as opposed to an intricacy of plot and continual revelations about character. Who knows? You can't please them all and thankfully, DG isn't trying to. I wonder what response DG has had from the Gay community. Do the people for whom these kinds of experiences would be similar (barring the difference between 18th C and 21st C mores and attitudes, for example) feel that Diana represents the emotions and situations of John and Percy well? He (the reviewer) obviously enjoyed several aspects
of the story but I also don't see where the Duke's murder was the weakest plot element. Maybe this guy just likes the battle action and wants to leave the other side of life alone. That's fine--many novels are completely plot driven--lots of action, little character development (or maybe I should say the character development is shallow); I prefer novels with in depth characters that drive the plot forward, making me interested in the whys as much as whats.
