Subject: I also love reading this scene with the knowledge that Willie does "like" John, and, indeed, will come to love him as his father. At this point, even though John suspects he is Jamie's son, however, he appears to have no "designs" on taking custody. Which seems to support the notion that when he later sees fit to take guardianship of Willie, it is not for selfish motives (eg. to somehow "own" a piece of Jamie).
