• I think you're on to something there, Pamela. I had to read your post a couple of times. I think when I really started having the flutters for LJ was during his interactions with Bree. She being a modern woman, with a modern woman's sensibilities, way of speaking forthright, educated, is basically...many of us. Lord John is taken with her intellectually and I think he finds her fascinating and refreshing. The way he embraces her is endearing to us, perhaps, because it seems that he would like us and find us fascinating, too.   • LOL! As Bree says, "I like the way you talk." Yes, it was his time with Bree that put me over the edge too! It gave me as a reader a "place" to fit myself in relation to him -- it's a pretty seductive fantasy in its own right just to think about having a man of his wit, charm, strength, and beauty, focus his attention and affection on making you laugh, helping you figure out your "messy" life, and just generally making it his business to keep you company and let you keep him company! Pretty appealing even without sexual tension. And there are a couple of moments where their banter gets slightly racy - fun but "safe." He makes no deep emotional -- or sexual, obviously -- demands on her. He has decided to love her because she is Jamie's daughter, but then he comes to love her because she's wonderful in her own right. He is simply her friend, and he's a man to be reckoned with. But it's really hard to be just friends with a man if there's any kind of sexual tension or attraction. I guess I disagree with Oleander, I like the lack. Thank you, Carol, for summing it up so well -- I like being friends with men too, and I do find it really appealing when a man wants to be friends with me, thinks I'm funny or interesting, etc. And the kind of "faux-flirting" that goes on can be so much fun, without any of the baggage of sexual attraction, etc. Like Jane said below, I'm thrilled to see who's hanging out here on this lovely "lordly" board!
