What you should have done when you decided you no longer wanted the red highlights was to use a 10 volume developer with an ash color product matching your natural hair color level. Now you're in a different boat. You really should go to a professional, have them strip out the color, removing all traces of red, and apply your natural base color. If, you don't want to do this, shampooing with a clarifyin shampoo will "help" remove some of the darker spots, especially if you apply the shampoo directly to those areas only--using it all over will probably lighten your hair all over and bring out the highlights again. This will only help a little, but maybe enough to help you tolerate it for awhile. Good Luck. PS. Pre-packaged hair color products bought in drug store type establishments alway contain the most commonly used developer, 20 volume.
