Right well ihave very dark hair.but i die my hair red myself with black underneath.i use Live real red hair dye ,its great.Lightenes my hair at the same time.ppl love my hair.or if its real dark,use a good prelightners first,this will depend on how dright you want it.Hope this helps you.Im going back to dark hair this week but would like blonde chunks in it so i can put a live red toner on the blonde bits i wanna change it and it washes out after bout 5 washes so i dnt wreck my hair.
